Midlife crisis on a budget.

What about an Accord Type R? I'm sure you could bag one in budget and they are highly regarded by all accounts. In fact this guy has set his reserve at £1500, and this appears to be a good one!

Was gonna suggest one of these. A mate used to have one. Great cars (engines).

If you think my Mondeo has a light clutch/flywheel, though...

Seriously though ...MX5

Indeed, I already have my mid-life crisis car:

You are a 37 year old handsome northerner with level 7 bartering and level 8 crossbow skills.

33, handsome? umm maybe not, Northerner, Scotland's in the north right?

You have £1500 coins (or golds) to spend on powerful car that will make you feel better than all the other Elfs (or Orcs, or Robots).

Ok so cost a bit more than that when I got it but probably worth about that now

130bhp bare minimum. The more ponies for the pound, the better. MPG must balance near the 30 turnip mark.

145bhp is just fine in a little sports car - plus surely any true midlife crisis car must be a convertible.

Would be tempted by an Accord Type-R though (especially as our family has doubled in size in the last 4 weeks!) as long a the boot is large enough for the barstools required to make use of that picnic table on the boot - that would have to go.

I refer you all to the speeding troll thread.

Nothing with 4 cylinders is going to satisfy a mid life crisis so that rules out all the VTECs and Porsches. A 406 V6 Auto Coupe would do nicely. Any Jag with a V8 would do the biz as well.

Feeling rather uninspired tonight. However, I wouldn't mind a Vauxhall Senator straight 6 24v like this one. Preferrably an auto as I do have a lazy driving style.

Edit: Straight 6 engine, not V6 - D'oh!

I always thought senators were fitted with God's choice of engine layout ie straight 6.

My 928 had eight cylinders, admittedly you wouldn't expect a £1500 one to run on all of them.

Damn, now I want that Xantia Activa. That looks like a fantastic can of green liquid worms.

Oops yes they are. I have an excuse though - I'm tired. *yawn*. :blink2:

This is more likely to be the cause of rather than the cure for a mid-life crisis. Just get an Alfa 156 2.5 and be done with it :)

A green-blooded Citroen that doesn't sink. I would be grief-stricken.

My recently acquired 406 V6 Coupe, 210 bhp automatic.  Bought for my own mid-like crisis, I have a horrible feeling my own crisis has reached the point where I just need soft, comfortable cars.  Will start a thread soon.

137 bhp and it's making my mid life crisis bearable.

Renault 21 Turbo ticks all your boxes but they are getting thin on the ground. Honda Prelude is another good shout, lovely looking cars. I had a 2.3 one a while back and it was superb. 160 ish BHP from memory, maybe it's a bit less thirsty than the VTEC one?

VW Corrado maybe? A non twatted one obviously.

I admit it's a scary prospect. You can still manually 'sink' it though. I would. Just to make sure the linkages are free, obviously.

Warren may be onto something here, 2 wheels would give maximum speed/money ratio.

This is mine.

Bike £600

Licence £550

Insurance £200

Helmet etc £150

£1500.

Have you bought anything yet?

If this really is a mid-life crisis we're talking about here, then it's already too late to be fretting about a couple of points of MPG...
