Sheep sales on Reeth green. c. 1960. The vicar is looking concerned, a couple of inches further and it's an offence.

Richmond Market Place. c.1940s.

Probably at least 1951 if that is a Vauxhall Wyvern EIX or the equivalent Velox.

Shows how many really old cars soldiered on right into the 1950's and beyond - mostly then driven off the road by the introduction of the MoT for the first time.

The Rolls looks a beauty and is highly likely to survive.

It was quite hard to buy a new car in the first few years after the war, as most were being exported & customers often had to have a good reason for needing a new car, normally needing it for work.  The alternative was to keep an older car on the road, with a bit of make do & mend.

The days when the M1 was so quiet, the police pulled each other over for something to do.

And got out to take photographs after summoning a helicopter. They really did have more time on their hands.

No twitter to police in those days.

I'm sure that's somebody I know, but I've forgotten who it is. Great pic.

The driver was Dr William Sellers. The car is still around but I’m not sure who owns it now.

Ah, Willie Sellers. Still active in the VSCC I think - he might even still have the Traction

1973 Oil Crisis probably - I don't think it's the 'quad' Green Shield stamps causing the queue. Nice old Porsche and what looks like an XK Jaguar at the pumps.

Kensitas fag ad too. The photo is taken in Beehive Lane - Ilford N. E. London.  So it's a bit of a 'snapshot' of what suburban Londoners were driving (and smoking) at the time.

Petrol station now closed - so 'quad stamps' are no more. But the 'Jet' petrol station in the distance is still there.

I did not recognise it. I was living in Ilford in 73 and I had my first car with the obligatory, but never used, petrol coupons.
