Can't find the previous topics, but is anyone else annoyed that a perfectly straight solid original mini is being stripped to the metal rather than sympathetically restored?

I'm more annoyed that he thinks Drogheda is "just outside Belfast". It's not even in the same country.

I agree, conservation not restoration

Would the original number plate really have been in two sections, either side of the bonnet badge?

There were other Mini's with the same layout. Never seen it before.

The series is actually growing on me. It's just light entertainment with cars. Better than nowt.

Flicked it on whilst waiting for Fargo.

Its OK.

Better than that shite with the faux cockney twat and staged cock ups.

I like it. There's just about enough techy bits to keep me interesting, with (probably) just enough dumbing down to appeal to a wider audience, to hopefully bring in enough viewing figures.

I enjoyed it and thought it look fantastic once finished, currently watching the cars that rock with Brain Johnson, he's great, shame it's not him doing the other show.

It's not a bad show, minor things irritate the inner Mr. Logic in me, and it would be nice to dwell more on the technical side of things. The mechanical 'expert' pushing the pistons out the top of the block, for instance, and saying a stressed engine is more reliable than one in standard trim.

I liked the car after restoration, seemed a good deal too at £9.5k. There's a unrestored mini cooper on car and classic in a shit state expecting 20k at auction, and a minter for £48k. Any half decent mini is now going up in value, apart from the barried shite.

that pissed me off too friend lives near donabate :D

I can't watch it, because of Glenister's attitude. Also saw a comment somewhere that they said the Mini was the first car to sell a million? Which is patently untrue. Shame as I'm quite interested in watching the bloke doing the work. There should be more of that and less of Glenister faffing about and being rude (he was especially bad in the Land Rover one. Very dismissive of enthusiasts).

You're quite right, I thought he said "Drogheda", but it was painted on something else in the barn. Still not near Belfast, though!

Tv folks get that shit wrong all the time: my mate's kid plays for Greenisland Boys FC, and they recently beat Real Madrid Juniors in a friendly. The BBC Northern Ireland News said that Greenisland was "near Larne", when it is in fact part of Carrickfergus. And UTV got my name wrong, despite it being printed on the fucking hard hat I was wearing while they were interviewing me.

I think Stevie Wonder fitted the headlining - looked a right state. Rest of it was nice though.

I never watch the twatbox so I cannot comment on this or any other programme....However, it was not unusual to see Minis back in the day with split number plates either side of the central badge (it worked  better on Austins).    I did it  on one of mine but all  the others had 7 digit plates (or 4 numbers, two letters which didn't work well either).   Conventionally hung number plates on Minis were forever getting biffed  off, especially on 10 inch rims....

I watched it. It's not a bad program as such but they spent far too little time with the car again and too much going over stuff that been said a billion times before.

I was stupidly annoyed that what seemed an OK was was totally and pointlessly striped. What's wrong with just finding what was there?

They had the engine messed with. Carbs went in dirty came out re-chromed all in one shot.

Close one- was watching this on Sky planner when I remembered Dirty Mary Crazy Larry was on. Mini's can wait...

I fell asleep last night watching the stag one on catch up. I may revisit it should I have insomnia another night this week. Like everyone else here I'd like to see more of the spanner man at work though that's not going to happen is it.

For shite on the telly, I guess it's good.

I watched it on +1 as I have to have me Fargo on Sunday evening.

they are all awful, chop shop, SOS, love of cars, that thing with Brian Johnson, even the yank stuff is dire.

And don't get me started on Combat Dealers, I nearly launched my telly

Despite not really being good (how should it be, it's telly after all), I find it's still the best of those shows, when it comes to Made in Europe.

The selection of cars is - of course - way too mainstream for my taste. For this matter, I prefer Brewer's sometimes rather eccentric choices.

Ditto, trig.

Never knew that about the Italian Job Mini's number plates.

I liked the bit where the kids chose the Metro, but prefer Wheeler Dealers for the nuts and bolts stuff.  I've learnt a few tips from old China, and Brewer is just laughable for his used car dealer twattishness.

Its a great programme and the mechanic bloke is brill because hes clearly very enthusiastic. Im not keen on the host, he just seems a bit sott of miserable and even when hes doing his own version of happy or enthusiastic, he just looks like its a strain and hes putting it on.

Nor me, I dread to think how much that bloke must have spent restoring all those cars!

I think it's a good programme. Phillip Glenisters comments make me chuckle sometimes because the first thing to go through my mind is "Well, there's another Autoshiter putting his foot through the telly".

The cars seem to be restored pretty much exactly as they should be. Standard body and interior often with a well sorted engine etc. Just how I like 'em.

Had to laugh when the curse of BL struck the Stag.
