The Holy Grail - The Elusive car.

Inspired by Mr Ratdat's Datsun 1600SSS saga. I wonder what obscure motor's we'd spit out our coffee and book ferry ticket's for?

What models, obscure colours, rare spec's limited editions really float your boat?

Me? well as a closet Rootes nut, I would love to find either an Avenger or 180 fitted with the Rootes V6. (Can't even find a picture on the net of one)!

FMR TG 500 for me - there is one missing in the UK - it may still be out there somewhere!

I have been looking for an F4 renault 4 pick up. Not the french version the one that was factory approved and made in Devon. I had one years ago and spoke to the guy responsible for them this morning as it happens. There are a few left so I am told but never seen another one.

Really? Who was converting pickup's in Devon? The Devon camper people?

That would be pretty near the top of my list as well.

I found the cortina 2.0S i'd been lusting after for years.

Still would love a white Mk1 Sierra 2.0 Ghia with all the options ticked, and ditto an MG ZT, with either the CDT diesel or LPG conversion, but with all the toys I dont have including cruise and the telly in the dash.

I find it very hard to pick one. Heuliez made an Espace-inspired people carrier based on a BX. Perhaps that.

As avantgarde as Soviet shite gets, though I don't expect one to show up on ebay anytime soon.

I do still have a holy grail in the Datsun world. A first generation Laurel 1800 (C30 model '68-'72). I have owned a very rusty one once but I'd love to have a really nice example. The green one pictured here is glorious and I was lucky enough to drive this very car when it belonged to Nissan Norway as part of their collection. I could have owned it too, but alas I was unaware they they were selling it at the time. It sold quite cheaply too.

These cars were were designed by PMC rather than Nissan and were quite sophisticated compared to Nissans of the day. Crossflow OHC, rack and pinion steering and IRS for a start. They are lovely cars to drive and really elegant yet understated for an in-house Japanese design I reckon. There was a pillarless coupe version too but only in Japan. It's the four door that I'd like though...
