It seems I'm the only one who didn't know.

That's a definite myth. They're not the same shape. A similar myth exists that Bijou windscreens were just DS break rear screens.

Albert Ross has corrected my twatness , I was close but no cigar

Jensen Interceptor has the same door handles as the Maserati Mexico, which means you are basically fucked if one breaks, which they do.

Ford cargo truck uses mk4/5 cortina headlights

Bristol 412 front lights are the same as the Opel Rekord D, putting chances of replacement in the same ballpark as an Interceptor's door handle.

Mk2 Scirocco uses the rear lights from some Aston Martin thing. Or vice-versa.

And the XJ220 wing mirrors are used on pretty much everything.

Metrocabs look like they have RangeRover windscreens. Do they?

^ I dunno about that, the bottom of the Range Rover screen looks much more curved than the Metrocab one.

You can't get the accelerator to work on a modern Jaguar, unless you are wearing your seatbelt.***

*** That's what I told a colleague when he was taking the piss out of me for wearing a seatbelt to drive one 100 yards.

I tried to start a Swiss rental Mondeo Diesel by rolling it down a hill and letting the clutch in.

No go.

Started immediately with the starter motor. Couldn't be bump-started.

Are they all like that or is it a Switzerland thing?

Something i've noticed on newer bmws at work, when reversing them into awkward places in the workshop if you open the door whilst it's in gear it will jump into park. And yes the first time it happened i did get a face full of door frame.....

the escort/Hillman frt indicator thing was only used on some rally cars as the road regs of some countrys required separate sidelights (ie not in headlight).

the austin1800/2200 got its nickname "land crab" from its propensity to spend more time slideing sideways when rallying/rallycrossing than going straight.

the use of mk3 escort cab rear lights where also shared by the est version.

the metrocab was based on a 4dr range rover shell.

the metro/maestro clocks where used in quite a few other models in the range, as where the marina door handles.

std mk1 escorts with disc brakes used the same brake caliper as the marina just on the opposite side.

1.3/1.6 (73 onwards) Cortina, 1.1/1.3 mk3 escort & ka use the same rear wheel cyl. the seals from these also fit the rear caliper on the mk4 zep/zod. which uses the same rear pads as the rover P6.

the 2.0/2.3 Cortina & fwd escort van (diesel) use the same rear brake drum.

the mk3/4/5 Cortina & mk2 escort use the same pads/calipers/discs & track rod ends.

Metrocab was a development of a Winchester design. There was a Range Rover based cab project called the CR6 but with a redesigned front using ital headlights and indicators and a flat bonnet. Carbodies went on to engineer the four door Rangie for BL.

Mk1 LR Discos used Maestro van rear lights.

If you roll a Lada Riva, all the windows will stay intact.

In 1967, Pininfarina built a redesigned shell for the BL Landcrab, which appears (in hindsight) a cross between a Citroen CX and a Rover SD1, with the Citroen SM's nose. It was way ahead of its time, looked utterly stunning, and would have boosted BL's image immeasurably. Needless to say, they rejected it.

thanks for that tayne I stand corrected I just understood it the otherway from reading a brochure I picked up to go with my rangy

Capri Mk3 interior door handles are the same as RS2000 Escort ones.

RS2000 track rod ends are Capri not Cortina.

E30 BMW M3s use E28 528i wheel bearings.

Lots of huge GM Yank barges used Chevanne brake cylinders.

The Sunbeam Lotus shares the front anti roll bar with the 1.0 Sunbeam.

I think most of carbodies RR work ended up being blind alleys.

FLM had an approved 4 door conversion in the 70s but the Monteverdi conversion was sold through LR dealers for 18months or so prior to the factory four door (itself looking much like a Monteverdi..)

70's RR Silver Shadows could be fitted with Cortina front pads. The Cortina ones squealed like crazy though

The Corsair 2000e box was also a fairly tight range of gears, and when you used it with a caravan, hill starts left a good trail of burnt clutch stench.

I've never worked out the logic behind the gearing in the 2000E. 4 ultra-close ratios with a very long first gear, which lends itself perfectly to a high-revving race engine that doesn't need to get off the line too quickly. It must have been an utter dog to drive in the heavy Corsair with an engine that wasn't particularly powerful or revvy.

It works great in an Anglia with a peaky tuned 1600 crossflow though, where the 1200 Anglia box makes it bog down in the huge gap between 2nd and 3rd. You have to modify the crossmember and cut a new gearstick hole to fit it to the car, but what a lot of people don't know is that the rear section of the two boxes are interchangeable, so you can fit the Anglia tail on the 2000E gear box and keep the original Anglia mountings and original gearstick hole.
