cort16's Cortina Crap - Suspicious Sill

I'm going to pickup this Mk4 2 dr Cortina tomorrow. I've not got far to go (about 70 miles) but I thought I'd try using this computer wizzyness that I wrote ages ago and should be gold for live shite collection updates. You'll be right with me as I sitting waiting 3 hours for the AA lorry.

It lets you send pictures from your phone by sending a picture to an email address, which through a series of 1's and 0's gets converted into a PICTUR, which will update the picture below LIVE (ish) . It also allows me to include a message. I've no idea if it'll work.

Loving the ultra lightweight towing dolly.post-17414-0-96458400-1394269823_thumb.jpg

Seems a shame that when the pictures update the old one disappears .

Yes it's a great laugh isn't it. Just keep your gap to the car in front to a distance of about 1.3 miles and it's okay.

The car was originally a 1.3 base but now has a 2.0 pinto and 5 speed type 9 in it. It was supposed to be a ready to use car but I've already found about 5 things wrong with it some of them I knew about some of them I didn't. I'm going to get the caliper free'd off tomorrow but it's going to need rebuilt or replaced I recon.

Also I know brake flexi pipes are meant to be flexi but this doesn't look right!

Also found 1 suspect bit of grot that wasn't there before

Speedo, rev counter and temp gauge don't work

Door is sticky

Needs replacement arb bushes

No heater

Good points are

Looks great

it's a flippin 2 door!

Not many clunks for a cortina.

engine goes great

gearbox great

drives really nice so with a bit of tinkering it should be fun. Pity I'm skint after buying it.

I don't suppose this car has links to St Helens does it?

My mate had one very similar - his was UEC 893R - a two door in green.

from memory im sure the brake caliper bolts had a bracket wih a steel pipe from the caliper to the flexy hose about 4 inches long, looks like your flexys  have been put straight into the caliper.

Posted

When you turn full lock the flexi is actually stretched. Not very safe!

It should look more like this

.....gearbox great....

Surely that was, and still is the best thing about any Cortina.

And the only real reason folk used to buy them in the old days.

It is the same car that's the reg. Are you going to tell me it was last seen doing 70mph on it's roof going over the humber bridge?

Whitevanman had a brown mk4 2 door on an R reg a couple of years back.. Can't be more than single figure survivors surely?

EDIT: not this one.. Just found a pic of yours from 2003 on Flickr and it was green even then.

If the heaters not working it's usually a blocked matrix. Give it a good reverse flush problem solved

It passed through my mates hands a couple of years ago.

I thought I recognised it - you tend to remember mk IV Tina's in Modena green.

Nice! Are the wheels (and plates) staying black or being, er, corrected?
