I did this a few years ago so please ignore any references to day week month etc

Got the chance today to make a proper start on fitting a Scorpio Ultima 2.0 16v engine and autobox and EEC-V

 Into This Sierra

I fetched this 2.0 DOHC Auto in April 07 as a breaker and paid the vast sum of £23

it needed a gearbox and a bit of welding and a few cosmetics doing but it has disc brakes all round and a servo  But with other things croping up i never got round to doing it so now i have decided to do somthing with it

First job was to carefully separate and remove the engine wiring from the Ultima and there was lots of it

Then Remove the engine and box

Next Job was to remove the 8v Dohc from the Sierra

Then got the two engine's side by side to compare the mounts and although they look very different they position the engine on the crosmember the same as the Sierra ones I will be keeping the scorpio mounts as it will give me more space on the exhaust side of the engine for the manifold/downpipe

But before i went any further it ws time for a trial fit of the engine / transmission

12_zps57c30717.jpg

Loads of room for everything no problems there at all

So engine back out again and time to get on with a few other minor jobs it needs before the final fit

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Repaired the autobox today

When i got the Scorp it had no top gear so i did the normal things hoping it would fix it but it didnt i checked the wiring all through and it was ok so i droped the sump off the box for a look and when i took the vave block off one of the front brake band anchors fell out so that explained why no 4th gear .

I took the bellhousing off the box and the front brake band was completly loose just hanging over the o/d drum so i took the remains of the band out

Remains of the front brake band

Then the overdrive clutch drum

19_zpsa201ffb2.jpg

You cant se that well from the pic how scoured it is  so the best thing to do was fit a complete drum from another box then built it back up with the brake band anchors out of the spare box

21_zps6e26f4ab.jpg

Then i changed the tail cone as the Sierra has a speedo cable and a VSS  and the Scorpio only has the VSS

Scorpio top Sierra bottom

While its all out i gave it a freshen up

So with the engine and box built back up its onto the next stage

Made a start on the electrics today

After removing the old engine loom .

Then i fed the Scorpio engine loom through

some of it

Then the inside

15_zps8ea9f7f0.jpg

All the wiring is now in and connected and the dash is back in ( Fingers crossed i wont have to take it back out again for a while )

When i turn the ignition on and the Fuel pump gives a squirt and the PATS light goes out thats about as much as i can test without the engine in

Next  get the engine box and prop fitted

The original Sierra exhaust manifold and downpipe is very different to the Scorpio 16v one so i used the Scorpio exhaust manifold with an aftermarket cat as it was very cheap , this car diddnt need a cat but this was a quick soloution to the downpipe  ,  As i wanted to keep the Sierra exhaust system i cut 6 inches off the end of the aftermarket scorp cat/downpipe and welded on the the end of the Sierra downpipe

DSCF1113_zpsf14ec57a.jpg

After i wired and piped it all in it was time to start the engine , I turned the key the pats ( Scorpio immobiliser system ) light went out the engine turned over and started almost instantly

Tried it and the gearbox was changing gear just as it should too

Job done ( Apart from the top breather hose )

Video

The Sierra 2.0 produced 125ps   and the Scorpio 2.0 16v engine produces 135ps   so all this for a 10 ps gain  . Realy though i diddnt do it for the power increase i just wanted to do it

Sweet. I must admit its a bit of a shame about the Black Scorpio, I've always liked them. But I stand by saying that you are a hero for the Sierra cause.

The loom bit looks a nightmare.. I think i would have packed it in by then.

The Scorpio looked great but had a few serios problems   , it needed 2 rear calipers ABS and air bag lamps on , a steering rack and both front wishbones  , and the gearbox repairing

I bought it with those problems and just run the mot & tax out on it and striped it

I do enjoy these kind of threads. I know I would never take this kind of thing on, at the moment my mechanical fettling extends as far as re painting the deck on my lawn mower!

You are the sierra wizzard! Can I find a sierra and some other ford and give them you and then boom!!!! Ten pics later a ace auto sierra with a top nana engine.

Your threads are ace.

Great stuff, makes you wonder why Ford never did a twin cam 16v Sierra themselves, although I was reading on 'net the other night how Ford were planning on putting the 24v V6 into the Sierra but in the end decided they would be competing with their own Cosworth so canned it. That could be rubbish, of course, but it's a wonderful 'what if'!

Gotta say, though, that those wiring looms terrify me!

Actually, have you tried doing a 24v transplant yourself?

Posted

I love the matter of fact way you describe taking out looms, opening up auto boxes etc. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in not having a clue what those pictures are showing, you could put in a random shot of your washing machine drum and most of us wouldn't have a clue.

With this sort of skill, shouldn't you be fitting supercharged Jag engines into 2.3 diesel estates, or something?

This is exquisite stuff.

Any intent on swapping the A/C system in from the Scorp, too? An air-conditioned Sierra is a thing of dreams.

Just put a 24v  thread up

Too much body chopping  to fit the a/c   ,

the bulkhead pannel is deeply dished into the car on a/c models  but flat on non a/c cars

Another great thread. This is proper car modifying, instead of slam, stance and all that crap. I bet that shifts along in grand fashion now. I like how you do up these Sierras a lot.

Posted

Was that the same lump as used in the RS2000 mk5 Scrote? And top modding sir, I like your style

Posted

Now that is seriously impresive, great work man. Tell me a little about what you have to do to have the PATS system operational in the Sierra, does it have its own ECU and so on?

That wiring loom looks like the thing of nightmares. Do you do this for a living as it looks like your skills are a cut above the usual knuckle skinner?

There are several different types of PATS system  this one uses a separate module , The system cant be bypassed or hotwired but carefully removed from the car with the engine loom it can all be re used easily

as long as you have a working key  it can either be used with its matching ignition barrel on the Sierra  or just tape the key to the reciver and hide it behind the dash  but if you ever loose the key re programimg will be impossible as Ford wont touch it neither will locksmiths  . so either get a donor with the red key or get aditional ones cloned or programed  before you strip the donor

I do my best to    :-)

Definitely a labour of love, but nice to see another car kept on the road :)

I think if I took the dash out and found that wiring loom, I'd just shut the garage door and have a lie down. For two years.

Fuck that's some wiring! I've always had a soft spot for a frogeye but that looks off putting!
