A brown 1982 Ford Cortina Crusader estate in July 1989, with brakes that pulled to the left and remoulds all round.

1954 Daimler Conquest Century, in August 1963

Pre select Wilson gearbox, almost impossible to stall, and brilliant for hill starts.

Does this make me the oldest here........ ?

A.reg Fiesta in 1983

A brand new Fiasco? You posh person...  ;)

Mine was March 7th the same year, in an X-plate Fiesta Pop.  I remember the date because I'd set myself a goal - just about the only time in my life I've done this - of passing my test within three months of my first driving lesson on my 17th birthday.  Made it by three days!

L reg aquarius metallic Hillman Imp Super in 1978

A 1987 Mitsubishi Colt 5dr in maroon, the same as Junkman's but manual and D-reg, in 1994. The instructor had a set of insanely detailed diagrams of the dashboard and switch layouts (including heater etc) which he gave to every pupil as a handout. He changed a couple of years later to an M-reg Proton, presumably as they had the same dash layout and thus he wouldn't have to make a new set of drawings.

A rather bland Mk4 polo, you know the car is a POS when the instructor tells you he'll never have another.

10 plate Fiesta titanium with 17 miles on the clock.

I think I'm going to loose this thread already!

10-11 Plate Corsa, on the plus side that shape Corsa was a Big Punto underneath.

Done it in my 1989 Mazda 323 hatchback,in 1995 I think.

Passed first go,never even took a lesson.

Instructor's 51 plate Fiesta. Passed first time, straight out that afternoon in my Series 3 Land Rover. Still remember what a great feeling it was.

2005 Skoda Fabia VRS.

Quite a nice car back then. Im sure theres better now.

A 1983 Beige Austin Ambassador VP which went wrong on the test as the auto choke wouldn't come off and it was misfiring.

But it got me through the test ok as the examiner had one previous and had similar problems with his and and told me to scrap the car.

The shame was on the way home I stopped at the pub to celebrate with my Dad and when I came out the bugger wouldn't restart so I had to get the bus home.

AA Ford Focus 1.6 Ghia BC53 CXJ. Passed my PCV in Happy Hour School of Motoring's ex-MOD Dennis Javelin N188 RGD.

Failed my first test in my sister's Isetta 3 wheeled bubble car. It was a baking hot day and the examiner was wearing an overcoat which probably didn't help his sense of wellbeing. I messed up the 3 point turn for which he found the only single track lane in the neighbourhood.

Next test went much better after some British School of Motoring lessons in a Triumph Herald. My girl friend, who was also learning complained that the guy who was teaching both of us had "wandering hands" but I never noticed.

I took the test on the afternoon of my last day at a summer job. The guys I was working with took me out at lunchtime for a couple of beers as it was my last day like. This probably calmed my nerves and the tester was surprised when I double declutched the Herald into non-synchromesh first gear for a tight downhill left turn. I was good at that because the Isetta which I initially learned in had no synchromesh at all.

Edit: for the young 'uns who don't know what I'm on about, synchromesh is what stops the gears crunching. In those days they didn't see the need for it on first gear. You were supposed to stop the vehicle, put it into first and then move off again.

Mk3 escort in 1986 second attempt. Most of my lessons were in a Mk2. I would've bought it had I known it was going. I went through two instructors too. The first didnt come back after one of my lessons......

BSM Vauxhall Corsa, brand new, in 1995. Have never driven a Corsa since. Would like to have a go in one.

In 2001 I hired a Corsa 1.2 16v for a few days while my Fiat TempraMental stopped working. I was pleasantly surprised - it didn't half shift!

The fuse blew during the test causing the wipers and indicators not to work. I told the examiner the wipers had broken, I didn't mention the indicators because I didn't want to do the rest of the test with hand signals.

'81 Fiesta, exactly like this one.

Passed mine in a 91 Fester. The instructor kindly changed to it the week before my test so I had no lessons in it. Still passed mind you :?  Probably down to the practise in my parents Rover Sterling and Volvo 240. Does that mean I was a shiter from when I was learning to drive?!

AA 1.6 MK1 Focus Ghia. Still the most modern car I have ever driven and, arguably, probably still the quickest, too.

I too abused the clutch of a BSM corsa on my way to passing at the second attempt. R-something-CKV a 5 door GLS I Think, poor thing.

Great little car. I always wondered why they didn't sell more of them in the UK.
