Hullo,

Like the Dogs Trust, me at CMS Towers hate to see a healthy dog put down. Unfortunately this does mean fleet clearing sometimes (http://autoshite.com/topic/15790-shite-for-sale/) but it also means that sometimes, just sometimes, something that's actually pretty smart drops into the fleet.

Meet Bertha Belligerent, as her previous owner called her. A 1997 Volvo 940 Classic 2.3LPT manual estate in some sort of modern metallic colouration.

It's quite a nice buggy all told, number plates, dealer sticker and tax disc holder all match, 123k on the clock, new clutch at 110k, head gasket done at 80k, money thrown at her at various times, 8 months MOT and 4 months tax. As a result the Montego has been retired from daily duties to try and stop the sodding thing dissolving. Oh aye, nearly forgot...

Apologies for the lack of "epic collection thread" enjoyment but it was about 45 miles away so the total journey there and back was under two hours, more or less. Boo.

That looks like a good egg sample of a fine model/marque. Theres nothing not to like about massive old Volvos.

Lovely old Swede. They seem to age well in the looks dept . Maybe because they were not very adventurous when new.

When I was looking for a luxobarge it was narrowed down to Volvo or Saab . Ended up with a Saab because one came up but could have easily been a Volvo .

Good luck with her.

I'm off to collect my 88 900 at 3. Wcpgw.

I love 900s, for all round tough, reliabile and practical transport they are superb value. The mid 90s late ones represent the pinnacle of build quality in volvo cars, I have a 1995 940 sport edition estate, high pressure turbo, full leather, limited slip diff, improved suspension, all standard or options. Its done 280,000 miles and is in mint condition with no rust whatsoever, the seats are like new ans everything works. Great cars.

Looks superb. Idael for all sorts of carboot sale duties!

Old volvos are proper engineers cars . I remember working on an 850 that had a warning light on and you lifted a little cover under the bonnet and there was a pre made jumper wire that you put in various holes to read the codes from the different modules.

You're not alone - Britney's up to five now.

What's not to like?  I can see me chopping in the Yeti for one of these at some point, if I can persuade Mrs S that it would definitely make it to Germany for Christmas without breaking down in Belgium.

Looks brilliant but if you sell a Cavalier SRi to keep this, then an anonymous* parcel of cat shit will be winging it's way to you this week!

My mates at the world's greatest Clash tribute band http://www.radio-clash.com/ are on their third Swedish brick.  Amazing how many speaker cabs and guitar cases you can fit in the back of a 960... B)

My plan is that everything except the Cavalier will sell allowing cash money to sort it. Or alternatively more cash money to get one that still has structural steel in place. This Vollo is a daily to replace the crumbling Montego of doom.

I've had a couple of these in baderbox flavour. Did about 250K in them. Outstanding weapons and the only bothersome things were a failed in-tank fuel pump and a very hard to track down electrickery fault which kept stopping the car in embarassing places like coming on to a roundabout with a police car behind me. It was eventually tracked down to a dodgy fuel pump relay.

Oh and if you have the heated seats switched on and you feel your arse getting a bit too hot, bail out fast because your trousers are on fire.

Another sexy Swedish estate joins the AS collective. Looking forward to seeing this one. :)

That's a handsome motor indeed. Da_L always wanted one of these back in the day, guess that's why I love them!

Another 940 among the ASV Massiv!  You do seem to have some kind of addiction going on there young man.  I mean... at least I only have one at a time (these days)! ;-)

That looks excellent! There's nothing a Volvo seems to like more than the company of another Volvo.

No heaters! It's a bit chilly. Also it's winter and the paint is falling off it to reveal slight browning of the metals.

Yes... it was a bit too cheap to turn down though and the SWMBO managed to negotiate a settee into the bargain so it's probably worked out more expensive than I think, but that's shiter's logic.

I was hoping you'd up the game, and charter a private helicopter to go get it. It's how they roll up there!

I love 940's, and this looks a good un.

Our Diesel 945 simply failed to break down or rust, i towed 2 tons of sand at a time with it when we extended the driveway without a murmer, foolishly we passed it on to me sis and her and the BiL used and abused it for years...far too often her (modern tat) Volvo lorry would fail to start after a long weekend/Christmas break and she'd jump start the bloody thing with the car, even the 24v surge when the lorry fired failed to do any car damage, flippin bomb proof.

Its now being retired due to deteriorating looks and dog damaged interior, pity, i suspect we could have run the thing indefinately, kicked ourselves more times than enough for letting it go...for a bloody W124 estate of all things that proved itself a lemon.

940 the last proper built car made?...give me eye teeth for a V90 3 litre.
