Name that wheel trim...

I rescued it from a scrap pile a while ago, it's got no markings on it. Can anyone identify it and it is worth anything before I bastardise it for another garage clock.

What size wheel does it fit?  13"?  14"?  It looks like something Japanese from the early 70s.  That's a rough guess, can't do any better at the moment, sorry.

There's one of these that I've seen parked in Lincoln before...

Internet points to that man there, I thought it was possibly 70s Datsun, no idea how this would stay one mind.

I just need to source some cheapo clock motors, I've a bunch of tin ashtrays from the same scrap pile!

I always liked the Mirado's in red...

Haven't seen any for a while - Has anyone else?!

To be fair, those mirados were very well made and about the same price as one genuine wheeltrim. Around that time I worked in a shop knocking out auto plas trims for £35 a set.

It wasn't until the mid 90s that really cheap market stall / pound shop wheeltrims started to flood the market and kill off the better quality stuff.

That and the arrival of shitty multi fit alloys with ditch finder tyres for £349 with easy 29% Apr finance.

The question is can anyone identify the red car those Mirado trims are fitted to in the Halfrauds catalogue?

Mk 2 fester?

Fuel cap is in the wrong place for a Mk2 Fiesta.

I'd say MK3 Escort as well in the Halfrauds catalogue.

No idea about the current set though but they look a bit sixties American to me.

Another vote for MK3 Escort. Anyway, here's another one (centre of pic):

Spotted at arguably NZ's best scrap yard a couple of years ago. Looks very much like a MK2 Cavalier SR(I) alloy but obviously not. Most probably Japanese, I reckon. Nice detailing of the valve cap hole which is the same size as the wheel nut ones. Any ideas? Feel free to ID others (Mazda 626 one in left foreground).

And there's no rust around it.
