I just hit a deer in the 806 at about 65 to 70mph.

It hit the offside headlamp, smashing the front bumper and pushing the wing back so now the front door won't open.

The pillar and door aperture looks okay so maybe it is just the actual wing panel that has gone back.

There are series of dents up the bonnet almost up to the windscreen and I'm seriously glad that I was in a tall vehicle.  On a normal car that would have been the middle of the A pillar or even through the windscreen ...

I don't suppose that the deer came of well either but it took probably a mile to stop safely and I wasn't inclined to go back and look.  I did call the police and tell them just in case.

Picks tomorrow.

I have to decide whether to fix or scrap :-(  Basically I will need most of the front end off another 806 preferably in Silver to fix this, and the wife needs a car.

Oh dear.

Glad your alright though, this can be nasty.

You should of at the very least found it and ate it.

Glad there were no human casualties. And hope the car can be straightened.

That would be illegal. Could of sent a mate back for it mind.

Its probably still there if anyone wants it. Between 1/2 and 1 mile east of Chrishall road on the A505 in Cambridgeshire

Christ. Glad you've survived that, bent 806 or not.

When I read the thread title I thought it involved a small Bedford based motorhome.

If he'd hit one of those there'd be far less damage

Go back and eat the bastard. Seriously though, could have been much worse.

There is a bumper on ebay for a tenner, a wing for 25 and a bonnet for 35 (IIRC). No idea what colour you need but it would make the car roadworthy.

What a pisser.

You're in one piece, that's the main thing. A mate's sister hit a bull, years ago, and she was fucked up bad.

Ooof. Harsh. Glad you are okay, shame about the deer like. Saw one get boshed by a lass in a Citroen C1 a couple of months back. It got up and ran off after a few seconds but her car was pretty mashed which just goes to show that the current car design towards pedestrian (and deer it seems) safety must work.

Ouch!

Deer get a bit disorientated in the dark and the fog, that's often when they come stumbling into the road.  They hardly ever do it in the sunshine when you've got a better chance of seeing them.

Hope the car can be fixed / replaced without too much stress

Deer strikes are quite common in France I have heard and I don't think the insurance companies pay up either, presumably because this is just the sort of thing that you really need insurance for. So if you hit a deer in France you would have both the deer and the car dragged back to blighty so you could stage the incident in Ashdown forest.

Bloody killers, deer are....I  seem to be encountering  more and more lately and in company with others.   Thats why there is a 40mph limit through the New Forest, but I have seen the stupid bastards on dual carriageways, motorway junctions and one came crashing out of the Esso Refinery tree screens a while back and nearly wrote off the car  behind me....Glad  you are  not hurt that has to  be the priority but getting your car lunched by running venison is no consolation....

I already found a nose cone/grill and front bumper on ebay in the correct colour for not much ££, though I'll have to drive to Birmingham to pick up the bumper.

I already have a spare front wing with minor damage, although I have been using it to practice painting so it's not longer silver.

Just need a headlamp and indicator now

Bought a car that had hit a fox - it bent the crossmember behind the bumper which was 2mm thick folded metal. I couldn't even straighten it in a vice with a sledgehammer.

Glad to hear your Ok, I saw a car that hit a monkjack once and it ripped the front end off, I've even hit a fox and a pair of shagging badgers before now and it's amazing the damage that they can do.

A mate ran over an already dead sheep in the middle of the night and it exploded throwing blood and guts all over his white Sierra.

He casually pulled into a remote petrol station at 2 am in his blood drenched white car and asked for a token for the jet wash. The woman at the till nearly shat herself.

glad you are OK mate. Dont be too sure the deer would still be there. Saw one dead on the way to a delivery and planned on picking it up when the van was empty. Went back the same way it was gone.

Our JRT was hit by a Mk2 escort estate in 1982. He did £400 of damge and we nearly fooked up a ford recon V4 getting him to the vet. The car passed over him yet he lived to be 18!

Seems you hit the only dear who was carrying a safe or an anvil at the time.

My dads mate hit a dog at 75mph* in his Herald and destroyed everything in front of the front wheels.

Could have been worse, lucky you are ok.

Years ago I had a customer who hit a cow doing about 50 (the car, not the cow) and everything forward of the windscreen was completely flattened with the engine and whatnot ending up almost on his lap. He was very lucky to walk away. Solid things cows.

I killed a Roe deer in Northumberland with an Opel Ascona and against the law of the moment threw it in the boot to offset the cost of a headlight and wing. As it was a hot evening I knew it had to cleaned quickly or the meat spoils so I wound up gutting it in stream with a Stanley knife while every horsefly for miles homed in to bite me, not the deer! I got £32 and some venison sausage for the carcass so probably worth it, - it was a while back!
