Toy commie cars at Poundland

Recommended Posts

I found one in Ashton-under-Lyne Poundland - the UAZ jeep - last/only one they had. None anywhere in Manchester, or the one in the centre of York (checked on a weekend break).

I'll take one each of the Volga and Lada cop cars, and if the estate is up for grabs that too. Let me know what it comes to & I'll throw some moniez in your direction. :-D

Poundland Altrincham never have any of these models. They get quite a bit of 35mm film in, though. Over the past year I've bought 75 rolls of film from that branch.

*If anyone wants some, it's ASA 200 and priced at £2 each. ;)

Tried three Poundland branches recently to get these, Norwich, Canterbury and Southend. Nothing.

Also Reading Poundland has closed, WTF

Its a dark day when the supplier of microfibre cloths for a quid shuts down....bad times

I saw loads of these on stalls at the Doncaster toy and train fair today, mostly £2 each, some priced at 2 for £5. :o Needless to say I didn't buy any ;)

No Kommie Kars in Barnsley on sea, but I did get dvd's of Daria so can see in the new year with the misery chick.

Someone on the blue linked an eBay listing with a choice of 19 of them at £4.99 BIN each, but some had sold out.

Nice mark up. Think I'll have to spend a day walking round poundland with ebay open on my phone.

Add postage and fees, and there's not much profit there methinks.

Anyone got a list of all the different ones?.I've got 16 so would like to try & get the lot :-)

None down here in Cornwall either. Bollocks

De Agostini probably have a list on their website, but you might have to dig deep into the web to find the Russian version.

Not got a list but a bit of detective work and looking at part numbers for them suggests there are 29 although there could be more.

From eBay, as previously eluded to:

6. GAZ 21P VOLGA POLICE CAR

7. GAZ-3302 ARMOURED CAR

8. PMG-20 JEEP FIRE BRIGADE

9. GAZ 24-03 VOLGA AMBULANCE

10. GAZ-3909 ORANGE AMBULANCE

£4.99 + £3.75 p+p is a joke.

Edit: look what I found! http://speccars.deagostini.ru/coll.html

There are at least 59, then.

And I haven't seen a GAZ Chaika sadly.

In their defence if they bought them when they were first offered in the trade then they cost £1.75 + VAT so given ebay fees and the need to make a profit I'd say thats not so bad. The issue for any retailer with them is that the remaining stock got dumped onto Poundland very, very cheap. At £1 a pop they are incredibly good value but I can't imagine anyone would bother trying to source loads of them from Poundland just to make a quid or two on ebay.

I've been trying to find some pictures of the earlier ones but I think I probably deleted them :( There was a massive blue and yellow surveillance unit or some such which was pretty damn good.

Thanks for the links Ghosty :-D ,there's a nice looking recovery truck on the last page of the 2nd link. There's also a real Transit van :-o .

I think the big yellow and blue bus thing was supposed to be some kind of CSI unit; I feel sure I've read that somewhere.  There was one at the Reebok, but I hesitated.  When I went back a bit later, having more or less decided to buy, it had gone.  Moral: don't hesitate.

Cleared the few left in the Maidstone shop the other day (sadly no Ladas though). The woman at the till was at pains to tell me they were "unsuitable for children". I found one left at the Worthing shop yesterday. It had obviously been abandoned on the wrong shelf. When I asked at the till whether they had any more, I was told they had been "cleared from the shelves". I am now unsure whether that meant they had all been sold, or whether Poundland had removed them, possibly as a perceived danger to children? The latter might explain why they have become difficult to find?

I don't think they have the CE stamp on them, is this a prerequisite for being sold in the EU or is it just desirable?

Quite a lot were broken when I found them in York, wingmirrors etc missing, and one fell off when I got home, so I think there is the small parts for kiddies hazard.

A quick google suggests that they've been on sale for six+ months and a few other online communities have been getting moist about them too.

Still plenty in Barrow!  I've been in this morning and stocked up a bit, mostly Ladas and Volgas.  MrsR hasn't noticed yet...

GAZ Pobeida taxi, cream over brown: plenty.

UAZ army jeep: plenty.

Orange snowplough truck: plenty.

Orange IZH van: plenty.

Lada police car, yellow: quite a few.

Volga police car, yellow: more than the Ladas.

Volga taxi, a la Bourne Supremacy: no shortage.

UAZ rescue van, orange/red: plenty.

UAZ carpet-fitter's van, white: loads.

GAZ Gazelle (Transit) van, blue: quite a few.

Beige coachbuilt van (armoured car?): no shortage.

The above list may not be comprehensive, it's just from memory and obviously I didn't do any kind of precise count.  I might even have missed off a couple of categories.  I was quite impressed actually, because I've seen the stock down as low as a handful of the cream-over-brown taxis, but today the base of the dump bin was set deep and it was fairly full.

So, AS daytrip to Barrow on Saturday, is it? :-D

A lot of the ex partwork stuff doesn't have the CE mark but in most cases the magazine that comes with it will have. Most of the time they are removed from the magazine and the magazines binned though.

They first came into the UK in November 2012 and the broken bits problem was why they ended up with Poundland. There were boxes and boxes and boxes of them and a large percentage were damaged - mainly lights / bumpers / mirrors off but making them not worth selling normally.

None in Preston.

I did however stock up on H4 bulbs for the Micrashed & Cherry, so not a wasted trip.
