Junkman Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 This thread is too easy since purplehelmet started up on ebay. He certainly has no shortage of shite for Sotheby's money: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?item=1 ... =200&rt=nc
Pillock Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Would you buy a car off someone who can't read a V5? 1.6 my arse....I don't doubt some of those are nice cars... the XR4i looks tasty, but at north of £4k I'd want it to be the best available. I think purplethrobber is a Doctor-wannabe without having gone to the effort of finding genuinely rare cars.

trigger Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/August-1998-F ... 3cccfd263f A supposedly 22000 mile Coupe Turbo for the bargain price of £9775, I hope the cambelts been changed for that price.
trigger Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 I've just spotted that Purplehelmet is selling that Vogue Estate i got offered earlier this year for £700. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SINGER-VOGUE- ... 2323b60ba8 To be fair he's had it resprayed as the bodywork was shot then i saw it, it had wheel arches hanging off and a hole in the roof from the CB aerial, I wonder what kind of job it's had done though, Bet it was a quick bodge of filer and blow over. 1968 Singer Vogue 1725 Estate by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr

He certainly has no shortage of shite for Sotheby's money: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?item=1 ... =200&rt=nc Who is this purple guy? does he ever sell any of this shite for those prices?
phil_lihp Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 He genuinely does have some top motors in his collection (exhibit A: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1990-Vauxhall-Astra-GTE-White-/150864765679?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item23203da2ef) but I have yet to see a single one that has a realistic price tag attached to it. There are also some truely dreadful vehicles on his listings which wouldn't appeal at any price so I guess they're working on the basis that anyone with poor enough taste to want it has no concept of value either.

Yeah I think you're right. Looking at his motors there's quite a few I like a lot, but bugger me how he comes up with those prices is beyond me.
meggersdog Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 just been looking at that purple helmet's feedback and this made me laugh.Efficient collection and payment. Best of luck with the enormous mark-up! Seller: Member ID cobobob ( Feedback score of 106) 30-Oct-12 13:08 -- (#251154528439) -- View Item --
RedSparrow Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Soooo, he bought a car and openly told the seller 'yer mate I'm just gonna tart it up and re-list it with massive mark-up!' What a pro! Glad the seller called him out on his feedback!
Pillock Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 He also sells cars on behalf of other people, according to his ebay shop.I wonder if there's anything to be said for advertising a car at too high a price and charging monthly "selling fees" to the owner? The less realistic the price, the longer they'll pay fees for. Not sure how his business model works though.
Cavcraft Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I suppose that GTE whilst not exactly a bargain isn't too far out of bed. Having said that something about it doesn't look right to me, can't put my finger on it though.
splatthefat Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Having said that something about it doesn't look right to me, can't put my finger on it though. The non-original wheels don't help, and didn't GTEs have bodyside rubbing strips? CJ
Cavcraft Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Top spotting! They look like LX/i wheels and the sides of the car are too 'clean'.
trigger Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 It's missing it's side skirts, later shape alloys from a later model (Mk3 Sport?), and missing GTE grill badge, oh and clear side repeater lamps. 1989 Vauxhall Astra 2.0 GTE 16v Mk2 by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr
phil_lihp Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Cavette » Tue Dec 04, 2012 6:33 pm I suppose that GTE whilst not exactly a bargain isn't too far out of bed. Having said that something about it doesn't look right to me, can't put my finger on it though. Yes, the wheels and missing trim aren't quite right, but I rather like the attempt to clean up the lines, it somehow modernises the car's appearance without going too far. That aside though, it is missing some original parts, surely these Astras aren't worth that much yet?
Cavcraft Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 They're getting there now, slowly but surely.

cyruspower Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C351360 Hammer of the gods supernatural! You'd think that for nearly £14k you'd be getting a Beetle Convertible made by Karmann, rather than an averagely successful hi-fi manufacturer?!!! The instrumentation lighting looks pretty fugging efficient though......
skattrd Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Bargain Thema ... only £5500 http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C351215 No, it's not the Ferrari engined one, but the sought after 2.0 non turbo automatic model. The last one of these I saw for sale went for £300, that also had a leaky sunroof.
cort16 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Hello is that Reality Checks R US? Can you send an urgent message to McCarthy Cars please they're trying to sell a 2004 Rover 75 diesel for £6000. They obviously using the "Purple" book valuation service to work out their prices. http://www.vcars.co.uk/used-cars/cardetails.php?t=autotrader&u=523563
Manbearpig Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Fucking hell, the increasing trend towards really long wordy adverts is really doing my head in. Worst thing is they do actually seem to affect simple minded fools to part with insane amounts of cash for cars, so expect it to take all night to read the Autotrader from now on. When the vendor uses bollocks like "a full paintwork refresh was commisioned" instead of "we rang Dent Devils", or ponders the life history of a previous owner you know you are in for a long ride http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C351522
