Investor Opportunity! Volvo 760 GLE Saloon 1984 34,000 miles! Valued at £9,000

£6000 BIN!

Quick - phone your stock broker. Get this in your portfolio and watch it just go up and up!!

1500 quid tops if you can find the right bunny to fit into it. 740/760s are great cars, but mainly because of the value for money aspect. not with THAT engine, though.

Thing is, mileage doesn't really factor in the 7X0s, at all. In my limited experience, the main niggles with them are a result of age alone, not wear and tear (eg sagging headlining) - the engines plod on indefinitely, the bodies aren't especially prone to rot, the electrics are fairly trustworthy - so I don't see that low mileage would make it any more valuable?

That guy with the Volvo is clearly an out-and-out nutjob, his basis for asking 6k is that its going to be worth 20k in about 3 years time!!!! Based on WHAT i wonder? Plus, He's obviously spoken to Sothebys who have advised him that all the top-end classic car investments have a fuggin roofrack fitted. Verdict: SPANNER

I don't know why you're upset about the price of that Volvo, it's cheaper than a second hand rev counter.

This looks ace, but shit advert and hopelessly optimistic price, probably based on the fact there's supposedly only two left.

I honestly think the likes of 'Howmanyleft' have a lot to answer for at times.

Indeed, because their figures are bollocks. They're not getting them from the SMMT or DVLA.

Posted

The figures are from the dvla. It is just the way they have been recorded by their staff that throws the figures.

Remember the old adage with a computer - rubbish in rubbish out

The Maxi is in this week's Classic and Sports Car (who said it was all flash motors?). It's a genuine World Cup Rally car. However, it didn't finish and is a Maxi, so that doesn't make it worth £30,000!

Posted

£30,000 seems mental but look at the history and ask yourself if that was an ex-works Mini Cooper or Mk1 Escort how much would it be then?

Yes, but while I'd never defend those sorts of prices for a bloody saloon car, at least the Minis and Escorts won stuff!

Posted

I'll defend the big prices for an Escort or Mini as they've both got loads of wins behind them and people love them.

Other than on here, there aren't many folk who'd go mental to own a Maxi. Supply and demand, innit?

Having said that, half of the inmates of AS would look at that Maxi, grumble, mutter something about 'bloody boy racers' and go off in search of standard bits and a few tins of Harvest Gold.

"Minilites, that Maxi scene has a lot to answer for".

'DO YOU RUN IT AS A NEW VEHICLE BECAUSE THATS WHAT IT IS AT PRESENT AND HAVE YEARS OF MOTORING FOR A FRACTION OF THE COST OF A NEW CAR ?'

'£6995'

Well seeing as you can get a brand new Up! for a grand more, or a Polo for £9585 and (probably score a discount on both) I just wouldn't bother with that Polo. Thanks anyhow.

No, the fuel tank now contains water. the barbeque bit heats up the water to generate steam which powers the rear-mounted double action cylinder triple expansion steam engine.

Should have bought a K series mate.

DO YOU JUST PUT IT IN THE GARAGE AND FORGET ABOUT IT FOR ANOTHER 10-15 YEARS AND REASSESS YOUR INVESTMENT (WHICH HAD BEEN MY PLAN).

It's a Polo you fucking tube. It's not going to be worth 20 grand in 2025.

OR ACQUIRE A CAR TRAILER AND TAKE HER TO THE MULTITUDE OF CAR SHOWS AROUND THE COUNTRY WHERE I'M SURE SHE WOULD BE GREATLY ADMIRED PARTICULARLY BY ALL THE VW ENTHUSIASTS OUT THERE

Probably a better option. I could see countless VAdGers blowing their load on its bonnet at VW meets.
