£195,000

87000 miles in total, about 8000 in the last 8 years. Presumably just laid up in a collection for the couple of years - but really, 195k ?

They were atrocious things to drive. Whoever is mad enough to shell out £200000 for it will be very disappointed indeed!

Do you think they put prices like this just to dissuade dreamers from wasting their time?
kind of like make an appointment if your genuinely interested and they check out your background etc then sit down and discuss the real price

It would likely deter some fool in a Ford Motorsports jacket ringing up talking shite about all the Mk2 Escorts he’s had and thinking he’s going to get it for five grand.

Watched an old episode of Minder from 1979 this afternoon. Story revolved around a con man who pretended to have lost all his money and that of his investors by driving around in a MkII Cortina, while having a newish Rolls Royce Silver Shadow hidden away.

Couldn't help thinking the Cortina is now probably worth more than the Silver Shadow which start from £2999 on Autotrader.

Probably right. Most silver shadows of that age are in bum colours like brown or gold. Once they’ve started to slip into neglect as well it’s rarely worth putting them right and it’s off to somewhere like Flying Spares or the banger track.

Weren’t they quite badly made for Rollers? Body shells made by BL so were quick to rust?

I find those types are always quick to point out that the one they had years ago was in so much better condition than the one I have now and no matter how much I paid I’ve been ripped off

In the sense that British Leyland owned Pressed Steel, then yes. But Pressed Steel made car bodies for a massive variety of companies, such as Volvo.

Pressed Steel also made the bodies for previous generations of Rolls-Royce

If the reg is actually for that van then yes as it was used in the series in a couple of episodes, not sure why they used one with a different reg to the normal one but at the time they probably didn't think anyone would notice.
