We buy any car dot com......

Curiosity finally got the better of me...

I entered details of my car (Citroen Synergie, X plate, 2 private owners, full service history... 253,619 miles.....). Sorry - can`t have this - mileage exceeds 250,000...Oh well, never mind - try MrsT`s... Corsa B, 2 private owners, full service history, 45,000 miles...

"One moment please... we will e mail you with an offer......... £190 !!! Oh, and there is an administration charge of £49.99... making their generous offer £140.01

I checked on e bay - 2 Corsa B`s, similar condition to Mrs T`s... one with 38K on - £1295, and another with 41K on - again £1295.

Anyone else tried this bunch of comedians............ ?

And how can they get away with claiming to buy any car  and then refusing on grounds of mileage - is that condition somewhere in the small print ?

Can't say I'm at all surprised by the comically low offers. Refusing a car altogether does seem a bit of a piss take given their name though.

I tried putting my Audi A4 on we buy any car a few years ago.

It had a fresh mot and tax in lovely condition and at the time had only 53000 on the clock and was offered £100 but that's before being knocked on the price for the odd stonechip and the admin fee so I would have most probably had to pay them lol.

I still have the car 4 years later as I can't part with the old girl,

I've since bought a 20 year old cabriolet audi in the same colour as it saves on buying a different colour touch up stick lol and nearly bought a coupe 80 in the same colour not long ago so I could have 3 matching models all in the same colour but I couldn't get a tow vehicle to pick it up autoshite is the way to go.

Tried them once when they 'offered' more than Dealer trade in. It wasn't. Wanted me to leave vehicle, logbook and two keys for 'appraisal' in morning.....yeah....right.

£1200 for a Corsa B is salty...

I tried them back in 2011 with a 1993 L reg Mazda 626 with MOT, they offered £50 and I had to drive to my nearest drop off point over 50 miles away.  I sold the car for £320 locally in the end.

Posted

I'm surprised they refused anything too, I thought their game was just to offer massively less than scrap value for stuff they didn't want (£50 minus £49.99 admin fee).

edit: like that ^

I'm pretty sure they got hauled over the coals not so long back for their sharp business practises. They offer X amount then when you go to their nearest office they chip you down over trivial things.

Part of the CarCrap chain I'm told, so no real surprise they're a bunch of twats.

For a laugh, I put a Volvo 360glt in once. Full tax and test.

They offered me less than the tax was worth.

Heard from a reliable source that British Car Auctions are taking over we buy anycar. BCA sell their cars already but we buy any car use a different name to sell.

Posted

A far easier buck just to scrap a car if you have to resort to those bunch of cunts. My neighbour said there was a programme on the telly the other night about this kind of this and I'm sure Car Craft was mentioned. Anyone see it?

Posted

It was mentioned on the Grin thread, last night I think. I missed it but I'm hoping it was on BBC so I can catch it when I get home.

Posted

it's a method of them getting delivered cars without having to go look for them and paying charges up the auction.

I checked out of interest and was offered £70 for my Cortina. 2.0S... Minus of course the £49.99 admin fee.

Made me chuckle. Especially when for the next few weeks they kept sending me "Don't miss out!" Reminder emails

I guess they're banking on the more gullible members of the public, especially those with no interest in cars. I saw the feature about Car Craft mentioned above - can't believe salesmen still use these tired old lines such as "if I can work out a really good deal for you with my manager, will you sign on the dotted line today?" or words to that effect.

I thought the original rap-style ads for We Buy Any Car were a hoot though!

An admin fee for buying something off of you ffs/wtf?

Surprised they don't charge you to deliver it to them, then deduct a profit tax too.

Just tried my Daimler. Not listed but i don't suppose they have to many 250V8's going through.

They did offer £2700+ for my Astray.

What do they do with the cars they buy out of interest?
Tart them up and flog them for £££s at CarShaft? Wouldn't surprise me.

I found them very good, I was happy with the quote online. I was honest about the condition of the car, they didn't take anything more off when they did the inspection. I had the money in my account the next day.

I don't have shares in we buy any car :)

As for what they do with the cars, I'm not really sure but I checked on the dvla website a little while after I sold it and the export marker was flagged.

Admin fees are the worst thing. 50 quid for a couple of minutes of paperwork is another one of those things that explains why people are so cynical and suspicious of any business nowadays.

I never got over 50 quid for any of my cars, including one that sold for nearly £2000.

They only want cars less than five years old on average mileage as they just punt them on through CarCraft. Anything outside that box is likely to go from dealer to dealer who all want a chunk of profit so the price you get is massively low.

I guess it appeals to people who can't be bothered with eBay and just want cash in their pocket that day. Still, there's plenty of back street dealers who will give you more.

I was only tempted once when the me and the ex bought a 307SW from her parents for a really low price. Realising how utterly dire it was, I went on WBAC.com and they were offering £500 more than we paid.... but that was a 4 year old car with two years worth of miles.

Posted

They only just introduced this mileage limitation thing about a week or so ago, are they going to change their name now because of this?

There was a survey somewhere, turned out something like 93% of people who went to them finally received a offer substantially below that of their first initial online quote - that is horrendous.  93% can you believe that?

Being "in the trade" I have heard so many terrible things about them. You could say they give us used car salesmen a bad name!

They're maybe finding that fixing up or disposing of fault high mileage chod is more effort than it's worth.

They either sell them at CarCraft, auction them off or weigh them in

Anything older than five years goes straight to British car auctions under the CC Tradesales banner. The newer stuff goes to Car Craft or one of the other subsideries.

I too have heard BCA are buying WBAC so does that mean if the auction owns the cars they are auctioning will they be doing warranty and finance ?

Posted

I imagine they'll keep it as a separate company to avoid any issues about buying from a motor trader and having a warranty.

I tried a CarCraft once. Well in fact I didn't, I happened to enquire over the phone after a Fiesta they had but decided against it, wasn't really the spec I was after. I then had 10-12 phone calls from them, the ones I did answer they were quite pushy wanting me to go down to get my car valued, could I make an appointment, and even did I want to put a deposit on the Fiesta over the phone in case someone else bought it (it had been on their website for weeks). I figured if they were that obnoxious over the phone, I'd want to punch them if I went up there.

I had a much better experience with AvailableCar and ended up buying from them. They don't even talk to you unless you ask, you just wander around sitting in stuff. They did amusingly leave the original BCA bill in my car when I saw it in prep so I know they made £1800 profit.

Posted

You could probably make a official complaint against them with ASA, advertising standards authority. We buy any car, except if it's got over 250,000 miles on it. They are twats though, and you know they'll take the piss.

Posted

Their prices are really rubbish, ok you expect them to be but not to the point that they make dealer trade in/ p/ex prices look amazing.

I did a quote earlier and they offered £3500 for my car, that's a grand less than Evans Halshaw offered me last week.

I also did a quote for my dads 09 Jetta TDI Sport that he just paid £9K and the offered £6K when I'd have thought that £7.5K was a realistic p/ex value and finally my father in laws 11 plate Meriva he paid £10K for a year ago and has been offered £7.5K trade in for, they offered £5800

Plus all these cars would be retail stock at Carcraft which being down South will be higher retail price plus Carcraft are overpriced.

Posted

Most people are shocked when they see what the trade price of their car is. It's handy if you've got finance on the car and you don't want to PX it to buy another car.  You can't sell it privately until you clear the finance and if you've not got the cash to pay it off you're stuffed if you want shot.

Posted

Wbac also finance the heavy tackle for a month, then auction them to the trade, clearing the finance and work for a small margin, not everything goes to carcraft.
