I seem to have bought this. It's in Enfield which is 3 seconds away from Edmonton.

No, of course it doesn't run.

I have started to repeatedly punch myself in the nuts as I type.

Can anyone recommend an engineering company/person/magician  who can remove 4 broken + partly drilled exhaust studs from a Yam XT600 head?

Posted

Okay, here is a proper photo.

Moped%201_zpshrw9as02.jpg

Needs at least a new plug and HT lead.

It's all complete and is in rather good condition. The bloke who I have obtained it from was great. he'd bought it about 8 years ago from a local pub who had the bike fastened to the ceiling as a display thingy for 15 years.

Not sure why it has two shovels attached but there they are. Short, well built and stowed in leather pouch type jobbies. Pretty cool really.

Carb will get a clean out as will the fuel tank. Might get some new fuel line just because. No idea if the coil, condenser or points are any good.

You can disengage the engine and pedal it like an ordinary bike if you are so inclined. All the cables are nice and free. Seat cover is toast.

Chrome bits are pitted but cleaning up nice. The light switch on the headlight is sadly missing.

Mileage is a tad over 5000Km.

It is essentially a rebranded Mobylette.

Colour is a bit of a weird one. It is orginal, seems a slightly yellowy green, not quite Rover Moonstone...

Leg shield will be removed for now to improve access to various bits.

Should clean up okay :)

Ahhh the 14mm bing carburettor! I think I had cleaning one down to about 2 minutes when I had my Raleigh RM4 with a rusty tank..

Hmm, thought it was a Gertner/Gurtner...

Excellent, please make plans to attend :)

Oh yeah! You’re 100% right! I’m thinking of the Puch maxi also with the rusty tank

Been beginning to consider getting a thundercat or something for £1k to commute on over winter, but not sure how well I'll tolerate the cold, dark and wet runs down the M4. Probably best off keeping the Octavia for the winter months I suspect.

Also been having irrational desires for a 2stroke still, but there's nothing cheap (sub 1K) unsurprisingly that I fancy.

Start fancying MZs then. ETZ250 would be an ideal winter hack and two-stroke so kill two birds with one stone.

365 days a year,I keep thinking of getting something bigger but it has such a dependable workhorse thing going on I haven't been able to bring myself to,yet.

Me? I didn't have a TDR. I had a CG125 which I sold.

Sorry getting confused as to who had what previously.

Any 2 strokes seem to have become oddly desire able even H100s and GP125s

Go to fit my El cheapo £9 alarm in the week, along with my adjustable side stand.. seeing as the one fitted is about 2" too short!!

gotta look at booking the 400 in for MOT too, as thats up 1st week August!!

Bikes for me have become a bit like musical chairs,at the moment the music stopped, and everything has skyrocketed.I paid £280 for my ETZ250,but now wouldn't sell it for less than £1200,part of the reason why I'm torn selling it,as I wouldn't pay the going rate to replace it,which is annoying as a mate of mine has offered me his ural style BMW R100/7 for a stupidly cheap price.

The latest trio of bikes from France have been unpacked and now all on ebay. Prices are pretty high as I really want to get as much as possible for them, but if you are in no rush feel free to make insulting offers.

3 bikes a big cool box and camping gear can all fit in the back of the 806. I had to remove some foot pegs plus the front wheel and handle bars on the DR

The CB125 twin I am probably way too high with the price but you have to try.

The 125DR the engine is probably toast but it has really good bodywork.

Finally the Solex this one actually runs and rides. They are well advanced for their day with shaft drive and a rear disc brake

Like I say they are priced high but I am open to offers, they are up for sale for a month then the prices will drop right down if they are still here. I will say that if I get the asking for all 3 then I will see a small profit on what it has cost to go over and buy them before anyone wonders what a brilliant money making scheme it is.

Been on a decent run out this afternoon, couple of hours on some roads I know quite well. Practicing consciously looking through corners and trying to pick out decent lines so I can slowly power out onto the straight - feel like I'm improving every time I go out which is good.

On the days I don't use the bike to commute I really miss it. Been beginning to consider getting a thundercat or something for £1k to commute on over winter, but not sure how well I'll tolerate the cold, dark and wet runs down the M4. FS365 or whatever the scotoil version is. Those are your friend in winter, you spray it all over a clean bike & it forms a film to protect the bike from salt etc. Seems to work quite well from people I know who've used them.

What you need is acf50, applied properly with a spray gun, fs365 is soluble and has to be applied after every ride, which is shit, there is a new one out also that is supposedly better than acf but I can't remember the name of it.

If there's no real traffic on your commute just use the car, winter biking is shit mostly, if you are not saving an hour a day it just isn't worth it in my opinion, better to have a heater and windscreen wipers.

I went on a little rideout today as I hadn't used my bike in days! I was thinking of going for an hour or two but got slightly carried away...

I left Donny about 11am & did pretty back roads up to & around the Dales. Stopped for a pint at Masham, then stopped here

And home after 380ish miles. Another 900 or so to do & it's 120k service time, which I want to do before the 1st weekend in August to save doing it while up there for two weeks.
