Vacuuming out a car, how much Cash have you Found?

Today I vacuumed out the magic Rover 220SLi for the first time, in my quest for thrift I was hoping to find a small fortune in loose change but was disappointed that all I found was 11p. In newly purchased cars in the past I have found several £1 coins, what is the most you have found?

Cue Mr B with tales of great riches extracted from the Rover just before selling it...

I found £12 in £1 coins scattered about in an FSO 125p years ago. The car was a free-bee too!

Working in a Breaker's Yard. A canvas coin bag containing over £270 in mixed change in a written off Taxi.... Wedged between the driver's seat and the sill, which had been crushed in a side swipe. I had to remove the seats to get the centre console apart, in order to retrieve some of the radio/meter equipment.... we contacted the Taxi firm, who got in touch with the Driver's Widow.... she was grateful, and sent us a crate of beer for our honesty. We had 5 minutes silence that day, even though it had been months since the driver died.

In my rs2000, I found in the back of the recaro drivers seat a wrap of cocaine. So that equates to roughly £50. Shame it wasn't theactual money

Taxis are goldmines, while you might not find hundreds in all of them, there's always atleast a fiver in one. My pal does a lot of spannering on them, and when the bap van comes round he usually just lifts the back seat base up and invariably there is more than enough change floating about to pay for his lunch (and his mate in the unit next door, and the apprentice, and any of his mates who are floating around the place drinking tea etc etc).

He's not had to take any lunch to work since he started his garage up 6 years ago.

I pointed out it was theft (of thousands of pounds by now), but he said it's OK because he generally doesn't like these taxi drivers very much and if one is pleasant to deal with, he'll top the screenwash up for free to make up for it.

About £1.29 in a '97 Accord.

Sorry that's not a better story.

Due to the design, there is ALWAYS money under the rails of Ax seats, I've had nearly 40 of the tinny French shuts now and have yet to have one without money under the seats.

I always spend a good fifteen minutes inspecting every nook and cranny in a car. I check all the door bins, and glovebox, look under all the seats, I even take the back seat base out or pull it up if it's a hatch to see what passengers might have dropped over the years, and have a good root around in the boot...

Before I sell any car. [/tight Scotsman]

Blimey that looks better after a clean!

Albert, splendid tale, and well done you lot for honesty. I would hope that the guys in a breaker's yard would also find the occasional couple of keys of primo Columbian, with or without assorted hard currencies, unregistered firearms, and body parts.

Couple of pence is all I've ever found, though my MG (since sold) had a half eaten burger under the drivers seat.

The scary thing was it didn't even look like a fast food one.

We had a mk2 cavalier many years ago and found about a tenners worth of fake £1 coins along with a few "special" ciggy's under the back seat. It's always worth a dig around under the seats when you roll up in the car park with no change. The other good one was the dumped sofa's that you used to find everywhere got 8 quid out of one once

Found $8.25 under the seat in the pickup while cleaning out 9 years of dirt, dog hair and a Mississippi driving licence.

Old ex farm truck Landy: enough cowshit and straw to build a house for one if the three little pigs. No money though - hey, the guy was a farmer.

I've found the miserable total of about 65p in one of my cars, and that included an old size 50p piece so I couldn't even spend it on a Mars bar.

I found about 12 quid including an old style fiver in the Audi Coupe when i took the interior out. Not bad considering we only gave £50 for the car...

I've never been paid to take a car before. Good work chap.

I know a bloke who once lost 20p in a Peugeot 405 handbrake mechanism... he never got it back.

About £12.50 in change in the ashtray of an Austin A35 and 6d (1965) under the back seat in an Austin Somerset.

I found a quid in a Lexus in U-Pull-It today. Cost me a quid to get in though. So really I got into a scrappy's for free. Don't know if this makes me happy or not.

£500 in a nice little bundle of £20s. Trade-in Lada Riva Saloon at work - took it straight to my Workshop Manager.

10 minutes later in MD's office....turns out he'd used it on plates to go to bank. Got a £50 reward for that, had only been there three weeks.

21p and some foreign coins, cheers DW, that might just buy me some sweets.

My current Golf had over £10 in loose change under the seats when i removed them to clean the car, which was handy.

I found a mini lawn bowling ball under the seat of the van... That's a new one on me!
