Barrow Wheels: RESURRECTION!

eddie is the moggy pickup no longer near the p6's? i saw the blue mk2 fezzy today near the shipyard drven by a mid 30's looking fella. talking of the shipyard theres quite a few old motors in the workers fleet including a matt black mk1 fezzy and a couple of mk1 triumph 2000's.

Ah, you know those Rovers... yes of course you do! I did see what might have been a Moggy pickup once, hiding in the shrubbery, but didn't think I could get even a halfway decent shot. I might try again though.

The shipyard guys do seem to have an interesting selection of tat. I do know the matt black Fiesta, that's one I see most mornings as I have a delivery round there. Keep meaning to have the Kodak out ready! I also see a couple of air-cooled Beetles there, but never a Triumph 2000... yet. There's a lot of spotting waiting to happen round Barrow. Don't tell them all about the red 190, let me spring the photo on here! You know the one I mean, you probably see it as often as I do...

:D Good stuff! Next time you're in the area, shout up and we'll have a cuppa.
Will do.

Im in Over Kellet every other weekend and often venture up that way.

The sheepdog trials last summer was a veritable tat fest too - brand spanking Toyota Landlubbers rubbing shoulders with battered Series 2A's. Twas ace.

Never thought of things like sheepdog trials.... all those landed country types with their ancient owned-and-abused-from-new shooting brakes... mmmmmmmmmm top shiting! :D might be a day out Mrs R would enjoy too. Hmmmmmmm.................

cant think of the red 190......on my travels today between foxfield and millom in fact, i saw the sexiest, mintiest white datsun 240z on gold wheels...ooooof, oh yeah and a custard yellow scimitar. talking of air cooled Vdubs, a mate of mine has just got his VW baywindow on the road complete with weathered paint effect which he has just coated in lacquer. suffice to say we all took the pisss before he did it but i have to be honest and say it looks great, so keep your eyes open for that on the golden paved roads of furness. eddy who do you work for so i can keep my eyes open? i work for Neil Price construction on all the varying and wonderful contraptions they employ

Big Ram was in the Dalton Carnival parade that kept me prisoner in the work car park for several hours last summer.  The floats had all assembled in the road while I was out in the boss's car.  Once I returned, he could get home but because I'd left mine at the back of the bakery I couldn't.  There are worse ways to spend a Saturday...

That guy with the Crestas and Vivas is clearly one of life's winners. Did you get to speak to him?

Posted

Yes I did, and he seemed to be a very nice sort of bloke.  Maybe slightly older than me (old enough to have a son who drives the Firebird, anyway...) and still very much a car nut.  He's had the black Viva for a dog's age, and restored it, I think he does almost everything himself.

Time for a few more, and we might as well start at the top.

I was actually in my work van, going between drops 3 and 4, so it was about 8.15am.  A DB6 at that hour doesn't half brighten your day!

We're coming up to date now (at last!).  We were at Cruft's over the weekend, so on Sunday I drove home off-motorway, which allowed for a bit of chod-snapping, like this fairly tidy Fiesta in Asda Tamworth.

RE the ERF in the truckshite picture: Didn't somebody else later on use the same cab (I'm thinking BMC in Turkey?)

Posted

Entirely possible!  I don't actually know but it does seem likely.  I think the cab originated with Steyr or some such.  In fact the whole truck may have done, I don't think ERF had anything light enough to make a 7.5 at the time.

Great spottage! Recognise a couple, taken close to my spot here! That Aston, I've seen at the Audi specialist along with a right tasty RS2 and the occasional bit of Volvo chod. Some old Landies hang around there too, including a carawagon.

The red 240 Torslanda lives just around the corner here too. Will hopefully be able to add to this lot!

Like the 305 estate, haven't seen one for yonks. Lovely simple, robust, practical and unpretentious car, what Peugeot used to be good at. Presuming it's a dizzle - the first car to use the XUD lump, in 1981 I think. Must have been a revelation at the time, if all you knew about diesels was smoke and noise and rattles.
