Shite plans for 2013?

As we get to another year I'm starting to get thoughts about what I'd like to buy next year. I've driven thousands of miles in these before but never actually owned one so I think 2013 needs to be the year I do something about it before prices start to rise -

Anybody else planning next years action already?

Gonna have to be careful as I have a baby due in April, but I'd really like to scratch a Rover 75 itch that I've had for a couple of years.

Old Corsas without rust and in good fettle seem to fetch ok money just now and I reckon for the same money, about 800 sheets, I could get a reasonable 75 that won't implode clutch or HGF wise. I'll see how things go, got other priorities next year!

moving home - building a car port = that's my year!

I've got no plans to sell the Anglia so I'll still be smoking about in it. I am literally smoking around at the moment, because the engine is on its last legs and anything above 50mph results in thick white fog behind me, so an engine rebuild is due. I was thinking of switching back to the fast engine from the little 1200, mainly because people in my new area are really pissing me off with the traffic light grand prix mentality - actually it's just a sodding race the whole time and a few people need putting back in their place occasionally and it'll make the roads a more pleasant place for everyone else too. I also wanted to pop back up to standard height. I've got adjustable suspension under mine and I was thinking of winding it back up and sticking standard skinny steel wheels and bumpers back on for epic w1nar lols on my commute. The only question is going to be whether the stock wheels will clear my brakes.

I'd quite like another Pop or at least something of pre-war design. I think my house might have to take priority though.

Plans are as follows-

return 2 Cortina's to the road and sell one...

return the old P100 to the road.

return the Fiesta to the road

Fit a clutch to the Sierra and decide what it's fate will be,

Weld the XR6

anything beyond that will be a bonus

Sell the X1/9 before they go down

Replace with Leyland Princess before they go up any further.

Get the Alfa 33 up on the road as it's been too long and needs some track day actioning.

Sell everything else including the house because it's doom doom doom.

^^ Outstanding! Always liked those, look forward to a thread full of epic welding tales :D

Mainly consolidation for me, I fear. Come February I'll be looking to move the ex-Wuvvum Rover 75 on; it will be keenly priced to sell with four new boots and a fresh service/MOT and so will be ideal for the discerning punter who likes to play cambelt roulette. (IainL, your interest in 75s is duly noted.)

The Jag and Lancia will get proper attention at last: my lack of real progress on the Dedra just shows me I need professional help, so to speak. Once I can drive it out of the barn under its own steam (hopefully without any actual steam) that'll go for a proper recommissioning, probably at Western Lancia in Devon; the Jag likewise will have its bodywork, fuel tank and central locking woes addressed, probably at XJ Restorations in Eastbourne. I know it's not really the shiter's way, but if I have another year like this year they'll just crumble otherwise.

Having said that, if that Volvo 262C in the eBay tat thread is still kicking around after Christmas and they've dropped the price by a bag then I might be seriously tempted.

my plans involve finishing my project shite, mrs fordperv says no more cars but well see

Get rid of my TR7, buy random old tat when drunk on ebay, finish the SD1 and turn my Puma in an OMG track WEPON. Quite surprised how cheap the performance parts for it are. I recon for about £500 quid I should be able to get coilovers (or decent sports suspension), upgraded ECU, bigger front calipers and some other bits. I'll obviously crash it on it's first outing being a ham fisted buffoon but it's something a bit different from just welding up crusty old BL tat.

Mine are the following;

Match the coachlines on the new (well used) front wing I put on the Jag.

Sell the C5 and 323F.

Move the Midget from the back yard to my unit and start restoring that.

Wash the Mundano at some point.

Sort out my chod and chod storage before it bums me to death.

1) Finish the weldathon on the Maserati, paint it up and put some more miles on it.

2) Body-off restoration of the 109, fit the 200 TDi engine that's waiting to go in, investigate whether I can (cheaply) fit an LT77 5-speed box to the series transfer box.

3) Try to avoid buying a BMW 850 or some other ludicrous piece of faded-glory tat. Or a Reliant Kitten. Or a Lada Niva. Or a Yugo 45 / 65. etc.

At the moment, plans are to sell the Transit and the Ligier, then put the Sierra through a test and flog that, then get the P6 welded up and MoT'd.

Then either the P6 or the XJS will be going - I haven't decided which yet. I won't be getting rid of the XJS straight away though - I want to get some use out of it in the spring, but I also want to sell it while it still has a few months' test left.

Then I want to spend some money on the Stagea to get it going a bit better - not that it's slow at the moment, but it could be a lot faster. I want to take it up to about 350bhp.

Then I'm going to need to spend some money on the Renner Six - it's had a new exhaust but it's still going to need some welding underneath for a test, and it really does need some early rear lights. I don't think a carb rebuild would hurt it either.

Then I want to buy another classic - ideally something '50s or older this time, possibly even pre-war.

And I want to finally get the fugging Volvo back on the road after five years of pissing about and getting nowhere.

If my Maser does not get on the road next year, that means it never will and I shall give up arsing about with cars altogether, maybe take up a new hobby like sitting in chairs or eating food, or something.

I think I'd like a Vauxhall Signum 3.2 V6 Elite as a daily driver. They're too cheap to ignore much longer.

Get the SD1 finished and on the road.

Assuming we are not all dead by Saturday morning.

I’m enjoying the E30 so it may stay longer than the 6 months I initially planned.

Not sure what to replace the Monty with yet, if at all. Shortlist is a mark 1 Rover Sterling, an early Rover R8, Rover 75, Sierra, Peugeot 405 GTX, or an early Clio in Nicole-spec.

I’ve toyed with the idea of selling the miniMetro, but will no doubt regret it so that’s a stayer for now.

Rationalisation.

I've got 10 motors at present all of which are fair to middling. I want to cut down the fleet to say 6-7 motors in good condition.

Basically I need to stop buying random shite and concentrate on a few of decent quality and keep them in good order.

I'm hoping the Lancia I'm picking up at the weekend will be the start of my kwality shite era. It'll probably be rough as hell though and breakdown to join the queue of rough shite needing attention.

My old Scirocco should be making a return in the new year along with the Galant Sapporo, both of which can be brought up to decent condition without too much effort.

Actual motors I'm hoping to buy next year .. Lancia HPE, Amazon or Saab v4 waggon.

Sell the Subaru when I can put a new MOT on it in Feb for something bigger. Does anybody want an old Subaru?

Posted

1) Take my mk1 off the road and put the mk2 on the road.

2) Sort out the other Mk1, get it cleaned, polished, swap the wheel over for my other set with good tyres, maybe even give it a service.

3) Try and actually sort out some decent storage within walking distance of this house so I can store yet more car stuff away and use it to store any of the cars I'm not using.

The above targets are realistic enough, whether it'll actually happen is a different matter.

To remain faithfull to my MX5.

I have owned and sold 4 cars this year

My plans are really boring. I want to continue fettling the BX turbo diesel and catch-up with jobs on the 2CV. Largely of the bodywork and kingpin type.

There's an outside chance that my BX estate may return to the road, but I need to see an improvement in income before I can consider that.

As for buying something else, for once in my life I've got absolutely no desire to buy anything at the moment. I can't quite believe it.

1. Get job.

2. With new found wealth, rescue the charade auto languishing on brother in laws drive.

3. With increased confidence, rescue the Delta mk2 sitting on sisters friends drive.

4. Stop pissing about building crap bikes.

My wants are small.

I'd quite like to get something else, but that would mean selling one of the two I've got already and if the experience I had a couple of months ago with the Saab is anything to go by that means dealing with more timewasting arseholes....

Haven't had anything smaller than a 2 litre for about 10 years and I quite fancy a little buzz-box for a change, and as a contrast to the Merc's waftiness. A little Citroen AX like the one I put in the Ebay thread would be ideal, or an Uno or an old R5.
