The dash at night

So many of these would do my head in as there are too many different colours on the dash. The green Volvo steering wheel makes it look like they've just fitted the wrong part.

Wee Mazda... really nice looking dash in the daytime too:

And, inspired by the Toyota Corolla posted earlier in this thread (with a proper gearbox!), here is the mighty Surf...

Gotta love the lateral gauges!  I like having oil pressure and voltage too, why don't they still do that?  The 'TURBO' caption has a green light that comes on when turbo-ing, the engine 'CHECK' light is orange when they self test, but I have no idea what would actually put it on?  There are no exhaust probes...

I'll get a better pic one of these nights, there are other high-'lights' such as 'ECT POWER' (tractor overtaking mode on the gearbox), and my personal favourite, 'HARD', if you have selected that mode on the dampers!

Bad picture - in the real world all the bulbs appear to be the same green

Here's the absolute turd of a Transit I rented yesterday.  Still can't quite decide if I like the whole cyan thing or not.  Typeface really isn't the easiest to read...speedometer in particular is too busy.

Trip computer lies like a rug too, calculated it a full 10mpg less than it claimed.

I have one from my old skoda fabia albeit it is just half a dash pic but still shows how it was a rather satisfying green colour.

It's a base model. I had one when arnold shark put a new ignition barrel in mine. It was very grim indeed. I couldn't wait to get mine back.

I hope the trip computer is a bit more realistic than that. I'm only getting 29/30 with mine as it is! I've never done a real world test though.

It just made me laugh that it was less capable of making progress on the motorway than my Merc T1 - and that's got the OM.601 in it - with its 78 screaming horses - and probably about two tonnes of camper hanging off the back.  She takes longer to wind up to speed than the Transit did, but will stay there once going...Transit felt like you'd hit a brick wall the moment you encountered the slightest gradient.

Came across these couple of photos of my parents 1991 Micra 1.3.  The Japanese really did a great job of making lovely looking crisp backlight instruments in the 80s and 90s didn't they.

Bluebird and Capri dashes - Capri has LED lighting behind the clocks now so you can actually see them!

That's a really early Bluebird isn't it?...Any chance we could get a good photo of the instrument panel in daylight too?  Been a couple of decades since I last saw one.

Yes, instrument panel geek right here.

Nah, it's actually a very late T72 on a H Reg! Happy to do a couple of photos tomorrow though.

Interesting, thought the warning lights were placed slightly differently on the later ones (compared to the earlier ones with the orange dash text).

Still a fantastic looking panel though, love the long thin warning lights with the text on them.

Hired a 290 SWB to move house at the weekend... got 39 mpg here. It's all in the feet.

Reminds me of 1970s hi-fi stereo amps

Aye, dropping the red and blue was one of the poorest calls VW made I reckon.  Was one of the few distinctive things about them...the cold white they use now just looks exactly the same as everything else.

Was surprised how well it worked as a driver too aside from just looking cool.

Cameras never quite capture the colour right though do they?

Never had a car to match it, but I did have a very VW-esque coloured stereo back in 2005 or so...

looks like the stereo is being illuminated/being made to fluoresce by a Black light blue ultra violet lamp :)

The 850 tonight. The phone has gone a bit radge with the exposure- all the dash and switch lighting should be dimmer and greener and it's made it look as if you can actually see by the useless alibaba street lights, which you very much can't.

2012 Mg6, a vision in red and orange, with nice white dials. Can't do anything about the shite "mood lighting" down lights fitted to the rear view mirror console, short of black tape or pulling the bulbs.

Needing some help in the control lighting department (everything aside from the instruments, trip computer and gear selector are lit by fibre optics from one lamp)...but this seemed worth posting here.

Push-button auto for the win!

only thing I don’t like is the digital speedo, I find them extremely difficult to read.

Realised I hadn't put this here before, so here it is. 2003 Range Rover.

Much green. And a broken bulb behind the odometer.
