Oh Go On Then, Let's See The Retro Rides Gathering Pics

A selection of the more interesting pictures I took. Camping was ok, and everyone was pretty well behaved and quietened down after midnight. Weather stayed dry and was quite muggy, so to be honest I was happy it wasn't blazing sunshine. Overall it was a decent show, although I wasn't really up for it as such so wasn't being overly social.

This was our convoy up. Well, we did have a Beetle with us, but since it was a Beetle it broke down before the halfway point and got towed home. We went to the nearby hillclimb in the Cav, and I must admint sitting in the back with the roof down and no seatbelts was a bit on the scary side, as in the event of a sudden stop I would have done a pretty good Angry Birds impression

This Skyline was absolute porn on wheels

The Datsun stand, with a bonus shot of my car. Notice the for sale sign in my window? Nah, no other fucker did either

I liked this in a "early 90's council estate front lawn" kind of way

I'm not sure what the story is with this, as it looked bigger than the original chassis. Did seem very well done

Now this Napier Bentley was nothing short of fucking epic. I do not pretend to understand how that engine works, but do know it sounded like God clearing his throat and spat oil everywhere

IMAG1463.jpg

This on the other hand, was utterly fucking shit

IMAG1466.jpg

This one car of the show and everyone was busy wanking over how awesome it looked. I thought it looked shit.

I'd love one of these as a daily

Nice shots. Bit annoyed I couldn't make it, especially as I was in Gloucs yesterday. Sadly I had to be back here for stuff.

Some very nice cars there. :D

Someone should tell the chap with that Esprit that the bods down Kwikfit have fitted the wrong sized tyres...

Other than the odd suspect mod that looked a decent day out. I'd love a go in that Napier Bentley 8)

THIS.

It always amazes me when people take cars made by some of the finest chassis engineers on the planet and set to with an angle grinder and bugger up the suspension, but hey, it's his car and he can do what he likes to it, right?

That Napier is indeed amazing, as is the Alitalia Beta racer. 8)

I'm sure it was an interesting day out but some of the pictures above demonstrate perfectly why I while away my spare time on here and not on Retro Rides...

the lotus pickup is a hunter estate with sunbeam front - we were told........

We thought it must have been an Avenger estate since they share the floorpan with the Sunbeam and therefore the front panels would bolt more or less straight on? It was certainly a Hillman on the tax disc, hence being K-reg. Quite a novel thing and pretty well executed.

I had a brilliant day. Some fabulous cars.

I had a good day.

Would have been fucking nice to get on the track, like. Just saying.

I have to say apart from the Shit pickup, garish Capri and the Lotus on Airbags I'd hit all of 'em. Some lovely mods going on there... especially "that" Lancia.

WTF is/was this...?

I think the demographic in the background there offers a clue as to why they were all dry humping it. I honestly thought that was a bozo car/piss take :|

Ford P100

I thought it was a R19 Cabriolet but now you say it i can see the Sierra door, what a crock of shite, I quite fancied going to this but decided that although there will be some nice cars and some decent people there, there will also be a loads of crap looking cars and "scene" wankers talking shit all day which i CBA with.

4th picture from bottom, is the guy in the blue shorts knocking one out?

And was it at the seaside? Only reason I can think of to be wearing green flip flops?

+1. That Esprit really looks as fooked up as I was told. The Avenger Sunbeam thingy is a bit special; would love to see someone do an estate version.

You managed to capture my bug in the council avenger pic, I had a great weekend, and got sublimely drunk. That Napier was a beast 8)

It had the Sierra dash as well - pretty sure it was there last year painted orange. Yes there was a lot of "scene" there, but better that than chavs or classic car types looking down their nose at you if you use a non original brand of screenwash. That said, the number of illegal and dangerous mods was pretty depressing, and I do get plenty of odd looks for stating I do not want to cut the springs on the Bluebird

Oh, and to be fair, I would not blame anyone for knocking one out over that Napier Bentley

I'll tell you what....if that was a P100, then thats a lot of work to get it to that shape....doors are non standard, axles etc, it may be ugly, but I'm impressed with the work.....

Posted

I'll have the Hiace, Lada, & Estelle thank you very much :D:D:D:D

Looked a good day.

Nice pics, you took shots of stuff I didn't even see!

The Esprit is on airbags, built purely to be low when static (and not a great deal taller when rolling). Its 'only' a 2.2 IIRC, so its not like he's ruined a rare one, or even a particularly quick one.

And for the record, I thought it looked quite nice.

The Lotus Sunbeam pickup is indeed a choped down Avenger estate with a tuned ex-Cav 1.7TD, massive turbo and manta gearbox, chucking out 186bhp on veg oil. Apparently its quicker than a real Lotus.

I'll chuck my pics up when I get a minute.

That blue thing is defo not a P100, its some sort of kit car, i can't remember the name, thats been cut down into a pick up.

***EDIT: I think its called a 'Metisse'

Posted

The esprit looks great, i knew there'd be someone on here calling it a massive pile of cuttlefish wank or whatever.

Handily, a reasonable proportion of this thread demonstrates why I don't bother over here any more.

Lotus is ok. Not something Id do but it's his car etc. Besides, it's reversable I'm guessing.

The lotus sunbeam pick up actually looks really good!

It was a cracking weekend - I didn't take any photos cos frankly I'm a shit photographer and there are dozens of people who can do a much better job. Some absolutely lovely cars there and some good guys too.

As easily overlooked as it could be, this fiesta was just so very lovely and just about obtainable enough to make me stop and perv over it for a good 10 minutes. I couldn't fault any of it, inside or outside.
