The Hunt is over. G-L-S

I have been looking for one of these for a LONG time, 5 years in fact. In that time there have been a couple of close calls and several wild goose chases :)

Last month I admitted defeat and decided to start looking for a nice Hunter GL. Sure enough a pale green 1 owner car appeared near Wolverhampton (you may remember it from the ebay thread) I arranged for someone to look at the car on THREE separate occasions only for the seller to cancel at short notice

I was slightly annoyed by now as you can imagine so he was politely told where to shove his car.

I have been placing wanted ads in various places over the years with no luck but, a couple of days later someone who wasn't an Indian spammer replied wondering if I still wanted a GLS! I phoned him up and five minutes later I was the very proud owner of a yellow GLS which has not seen the light of day since 1994 (I really should stop buying cars sight unseen over the phone) :D

Some previous bodging will need to be sorted.

Interior looks quite good.

What horrors lurk beneath that underseal?

I had it collected today, The chap asked if they could be gone by 12 as "that's when the pub opens" :D

Superb - that's such a 1970s colour. Did these replace the short lived GT? - a 1971/2 example must be one of the earliest.

That boot floor repair doesn't look too bad to me, but the patches on the chassis rails and outrigger do look fairly crude.

Good luck with it - a running restoration or a total strip down job?

Ace job, cracking car and another Chester/surrounding area reg. plate car too. Is that recovery truck a late Bedford CF by the way?

It's on a B plate.

Looks like the gear lever is missing, hopefully not the entire 'box.

I agree with AnthonyG regarding that chassis rail.

Great cars these so well impressed.

Nice colour, is it original? Seems unusual.

And one of the best dashboards ever. 8)

Cor, what a find! And what a colour combo. Is that one of the Wardance colours from the Avenger Tiger? Stunning whatever it is.

Isn't the registration from dahn South somewhere? I thought all regs with L in the middle were from London area. My mk1 Escort's reg started with VLY, that was registered in Essex.

Hunters come second only to Avengers on my favourite 70s saloons list, so I'm looking forward to seeing this one back to it's best.

Well that looks rather special. That last picture makes it look very good indeed.

Not quite. LG = Cheshire, I think.

EDIT: ...as Billy said, earlier...

Now, while this still is a GR9 find etc, I will admit to being a bit disappointed. Given your username and lack of Tagora ownership, I was bracing myself for a Tagora GLS.

Thanks chaps, to answer some of the questions.

It was first registered 2 May 1972 in Cheshire. According to the club it's the second oldest surviving car known, by just over a week.

The colour is original, trigger has some photographs of a similar one taken at the NEC show.

It will be a total strip down, I'm expecting some nasty surprises when they start poking about underneath. The top half looks pretty good thankfully.

My Uncle Dave was transport manager at Bulmers in Hereford back in the 70s. He had a couple of Hunters as company cars, including a GLS. The 8-year-old me always loved the dash...

Superb. It's a great time to be on this forum, there's some quality stuff appearing of late.

What a find! Delightful. I hope the restoration isn't too taxing, but it'll be so worth the effort. Molto good luck.

Well done - I think you've just managed to make whole form both massively envious, but at the same time slightly relieved that this isn't their project!

Best of luck with it. I'm doing a similar (but less daunting) job on a (rather less rare and special) Arrow, so do shout if you're having trouble sourcing parts and I might be able to point you in the right direction.

One of these appeared in my local scrapyard in about 1996, I bought the engine for £100 and sold it for £200. BIG BUX to an impoverished student like myself, I certainly did some damage to myself in the students union after that. Great find!!!!! Always find it funny how the GLS got a sportier engine than the GT.

It arrived at the garage today so I gave them a call to see what they thought.

The consensus is I haven't landed them with another complete shitheap, it's not too bad really and they even had it running for a few seconds. :D

Looks to me like the colour of your Glorious Hunter is Chrysler Sundance Yellow, a very shortlived colour that lasted from around 70 to 72 on the more sporting Chrysler Rootesmobiles. :D
