So.. Confession time: How many points do you have?

Just curious... Having been driving point free since I passed my test in 1997 I racked up 12 points in the space of a year in 2007-2008. just stupidity really.. 83mph in a 70.. 60 in a 50 and then then one bad un.. I was clocked in my old Cougar at 98 on the A90 near Aberdeen in the middle of the night.

Although I clocked up 12 points the judge was persuaded not to ban me and as of July this year i have a clean licence again... Helped by the fact I mostly drive shite now incapable of high speeds, and because just missing out on a ban made me realise how hard it would hit me if I was left with six months of walking.

None.

Racked up a fair few over the first 8-10 years of driving but ye olde licence has been clean for quite a while now. It helps that I no longer drive like a tit.

Passed in May 2001, never had a point. Only one parking ticket too.

(Generally shite helps as 29mph is sometimes high speed. Also one day I'll tell the story how my Citroen AX stopped me commiting two murders. Well, manslaughers. Well, death by dangerous driving.)

I found that selling my Celica made a big difference in the acquisition rate.

Along the way to today I've had them along with a 2 week ban and a 3 month ban for 99.7mph, 110mph, 38mph and a couple of others to add to my record.

I've deliberately kept my licence to send off with a new photo as I will be clean againfor the 1st time in a few years.

The 110mph on the M1 - I was ONLY in fourth gear what did they expect... :?

Absolutely zero. Seems quite common amongst shite-lovers! I am lucky - twice set off cameras (never heard 'owt), once stopped by a lady officer for doing 50 in a 30 but got let off because I was in a Dyane and she found this hilarious.

None!

Passed my test in 1998, got 3 points less than a week later, calmed down, none since. Touch wood.

None, but then I only passed my test last March so there's still plenty of time for me to get caught. That said, I drive like a grandad and neither of my cars are really geared towards hooning so it seems that if I do get points, it'll be due to misfortune rather than tittery.

Eff all. Last points were probably circa 1987 I think, got caught doing 71 in a 40 zone closely followed by 90 in a 60 but just got done for the 71mph offence.

Considering I drove for a living from 1988-2001 I think I did pretty well, especially as the last 8 years of those I drove like a maniac pretty much all the time, inc. a fair chunk of my time around north/mid/east Wales.

Nietski. Not even when I had the 2.8 capri.

Posted

None, and hope not to have any either

In fairness,it is easy to be poodling along in a 30,and look down at the clock to see you've slipped up to 35,but thats not criminal, its a quick touch on the brakes, and back to 30;hell arsing along at 68 in the 30 zone however deserves a kick in the wallet !

3 at present, and these are all I've ever had. They could have been removed a month or two back. I suppose I'll get round to having them removed off my license eventually.

I have been pulled over and given a friendly warning more than once though.

The last time was last year in my Alfa 155 whilst driving home from collecting it. I was clocked doing 83.9mph on the A1 by a nice chap from Notts police, I apologised for my slightly exuberant driving and he complimented me on the nice Alfa :D

Nil. But tickets through the post for: yellow box, parking, no right turn, bus lane and forgeting to pay congestion charge - all in London of course where they think it's OK to use cameras paid for by the tax payer to extract yet more cash...

Posted

None, and all I've ever had was 3 for "due care" about 20 years ago.

Surprisingly I never got any for speeding because I really did used to sink the boot when I was younger, there wasn't a speed limit I didn't double at some point.......:twisted:

None at the moment......but had a fair few in the past

I've got 3 at the moment. It was dark and I was getting frustrated with the dawdler in front of me because I'd followed him for a good long stint (on a NSL road with good surface where you can crack on a bit if you get a clear go) There's a longish straight on this particular road where you can generally get past the numpties. Unfortunately it has a junction with a side road leading off just before you get on the straight with chevrons and so on. The double whites were all but worn away - but that was no defence as I travel along it a lot - and I decided I couldn't wait 10 seconds more....

What I didn't realise was that the car behind me was a fully marked up traffic unit.....

To make matters worse I was in my 1967 Triumph 1300....

That sinking feeling when the blue lights come on is quite a stomach churner isn't it?!

No points. I've been caught speeding a few times but Irish cops can't put points on my UK licence. :P

None, and never had any. Passed my test in 1990. I got a 40 quid fine for failure to display my "R" plates, but no points as NI didn't have them then. I got a ticking off for riding my GSXR too fast, but the copper was a keen biker himself and didn't take it any further. Both those incidents were over 20 years ago.

To be honest, I've slowed down a LOT, possibly as a consequence of getting older (you think about consequences more), but also, I really don't fancy doing my test these days! A lot of hassle. And, perhaps it's me getting increasingly grumpy as I get older, or there really ARE more dickheads on the road these days. What's not in doubt is that there's more traffic.

Print this photo out, and stick it on your dartboard - this man is going to change that.

No points, no convictions and a total of 1 parking ticket. I ought to by an IAM badge because I'm clearly a driving god

I've assumed it inevitable that a camera will get me one day, been lucky so far, I find it's the smug twats who like to state ''Well I don't have a problem with speed cameras because I don't speed'' who tend to get flashed. I've been pulled lots for 'a word' about my speed but I must be a charmer as again been lucky. The Garda are less forgiving, last time on being informed of clocking a 100mph reading on the spud fanciers hair dryer I pointed out that the speed signs said 100, the turf digger explained ''Dat's kilometers,'' I asked why he was measuring speed in miles then, and the blue shirted bog bouncer seemed quite perplexed.

I've got six.

Bastard.

I'm a bit embarrassed that i don't know when they can come off. It used to be three years, isn't it four now? Mind you, every single insurance company seems to want you to account for the last five years. That and bend over.

Mine are from May '08 and July '09. Three (50 in a 40) from a Safety Partnership van on a dual carriageway in a part of Ipswich where children fear to tread, and three (39 in a 30) from a Safety Partnership Van on Clacton sea front, at 8:20 AM on a Sunday morning, where me and the van were the only vehicles or signs of human* life for miles around.

I'm hypocritical enough to hate when I see others getting away with it / abandoning the rules totally.

passed test in 1992... and never had points.... a few parking tickets though

Posted

None, since 97 when I got my license.

Driving a Fiat with 41 stallions under the hood probably helped that.

Got let off with a warning for doing a beautiful 270 degree spin on a wet roundabout in Weston-S-Mare one afternoon, right in front of a riot van full of cops who'd been following me for the past few miles. They all got a giggle, the license, plate, insurance etc came back good on the spot so they sent me on my way, whereby I was careful like they said to be :D

Luckily speed camera "robots" are currently against the law, you have to be stopped by a real police officer in order to be caught- includes them timing you against markers from a helicopter too.

Fun times

I have never managed to get points on my UK licence in-spite of some quite spirited driving since getting my licence in 1982, came close with my 1983 Golf GTI and 1979 Lotus Eclat when I was younger, I love the absence of speed cameras here in the US!.

None at all, ever, in 16 years. How I do not know, as I spent the first 8 of those years driving like an utter nob. I'm way more laid back since I left civilization, which has probably helped since.

I have had six over 15 odd years. First was testing the turbo on my 900 :) and the second lot was dropping my little brother in drug rehab and was quite worked up. Both cameras and over 6 years ago.
