I'd like a horrid, miserable, shit old caravan...

Those folding caravans are truly ace (in an autoshite way), but where does all the gubbins inside go when it's folded down??

The cupboards are only waist-high, so the roof and upper sides just fold down over them.

Loving the Princess/Musketeer pic! :D

Phwoar, get a load of this (courtesy of the Google search above).

Yeah but who the hell wants to go camping in a portaloo?

When I was in my late teens, I wanted to buy a mini van and wedge a small mattress in the back (for obvious reasons). I would have gone away for weekends in it, and it would have been so much better than the time I went camping in Cumbria in November and almost died from frostbite. Any of these shite caravans and Winnebagos would have been luxury to me.

Buy the red LDV on here and lob a mattress in the back. Sorted

MOVED:

I've the option of buying this (possibly) for around (I was thinking) £1500. The engine is fooked though. May possibly be able to keep it where it is for a while too.

Downsides:

7.5 tonne so I dont have the right license yet.

probably sub 20MPG

very big not really much use on tiny lanes and backroads like a camper would be.

Looks a right mess at the minute (other side is better)

Needs new engine at some point

Needs MOT at some point

SMELLS OF HORSE

Plus sides:

Rear folds down small car would probably fit in back (haven't measured yet)

Stealth camper less likely to be targeted by thieves

Could use rear "garage" area as more living space with moveable wall, and stuff that could fold or stow away.

For a permanant home it would need to be at least Talbot Express sized.. even bigger like the coach built ones, or a MK2 Transit. Anything smaller would probably not do, I mean i have a fair amount of stuff. Lots will go into storage like the records, would like to take the decks but would probs be stolen

Have you  thought about a Portafold?    Tows  with a Minor, folds  down to back  window level and lives in a garage (but doesn't have to - completely waterproof when folded up)   Fibreglass  with proper steel chassis, brakes and shocks.    Similar Ansfold has a smooth roof but you gotta  have the fins!

Or even my blue one. You'll LITERALLY* get so many girls wanting to shag you.

nobody ever heard of a hotel/motel/b&b?

really fail to se the attraction of lugging a box around to sleep in.

either: don't sleep  or get lucky with a local and sleep* at theirs if u r skintus arramus or his m8 brassic onusarsus.

I fainted when I saw this, and when I came round, I suffered temporary blindness

All my orifices then started to leak in horror at this abomination.

So go for it!

I agree. if you have somewhere to put it and the means to fix it, why not? a replacement engine shouldn't be hard to find, iirc its a cummins 5.9 in these and they are on ebay quite regularly.  big old job to fit though

Those Cummins engines are mega, get a 6 pot turbo one though.

Why not get a local bint pregnant and the pair of you move into government sponsored accommodation?

Too cold in this country, in winter.

It would need to be VERY heavily insulated for you to have any life outside a high tog duvet.

Good from March/April on though....

My friends who live in a Sprinter reckon a wood burner is key to making winters pleasant.

£1500 is well cheap for a horsebox, borked engine or not.

Posted

I was thinking wood burner! Free fuel eh... just the fitment of it would have to be back on of big firage or monxide death may occur

Posted

The best compact camper conversions i've seen are ones that have been made out of lutons vans. There was an old transit one one ebay a couple of years ago that just looked like any old shitey white transit on the outside but was basically a country cottage with woodburning stove and all that inside.

This looks like a good place to start. Good size, Tail lift, build in diesel heater etc.

I always wonder if you bought a bit of land and just piched one of these on it for "storage" then just lived in it how long it would take the council to try to move you on?
