Timewaster Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 I've seen them with cherry pickers on the back for street light work. I think I'll stay on the ground thanks. Lacquer Peel and strangeangel 2
phil_lihp Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 A couple of my local councils have got these, they seem to be lasting OK but then how much more flimsy than a Hijet/Supercarry could they realistically be? Lacquer Peel 1

Aye, I'd sooner walk to and climb the pole than drive about in one of these. but then how much more flimsy than a Hijet/Supercarry could they realistically be? robinmasters Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Coming back aparrently http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/dfsk/99277/dfsk-budget-van-range-returns-to-the-uk And this time with a ground-breakingly original design. Banger Kenny, Supernaut, mk2_craig and 2 others 5

DodgeRover Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 The NCAP tests are voluntary remember but any company selling vehicles in Europe worth their salt will put all of their models through. It is a situation where if they have nothing to worry about it's all good for their sales with only the loss of a handful of cars. You have to ask yourself why the likes of DFSK don't volunteer. So the company is cutting corners by not making enough spares to meet potential demand, gotcha. I wonder what other corners they cut...I don't think that's really a bad thing, if you can keep your customers on the road and happy for the time it takes to take something off a stock vehicle rather than having them curse you for the 2 or 3 weeks for a back order then I would do it. Obviously It would depend on the part though. They probably view an NCAP not rated as better than 0 points Lacquer Peel and tooSavvy 2
Timewaster Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Pity the poor sod who buys a stock van that has been dismantled by the workshop apprentice and cobbled back together during the lunch break. It does happen. Lacquer Peel 1

I'm sure these little guys are okay. I'm sure there is a difference between the Swiss company that had my keyboard manufactured in China and some in house job with legally questionable styling and doubtful safety measurements. I remain very unconvinced that stuff like this isn't made to just scrape by as acceptable and exported to us with the sole intention of making a quick buck. I'm sure the only reason that stuff like this is even being made is because there is a lot of people in much poorer countries than ours that have little choice (see: Trabant and East Germany). We don't have a great deal of choice when it comes to where the products we buy are made and I don't think manufacturers do either because the labour is so much cheaper in China. I suppose there is some good news here though. The DFSK factory isn't tall enough to need suicide nets. They probably view an NCAP not rated as better than 0 points Because it is. A 1 star rating from Euro NCAP is the equivalent of them saying 'the vehicle has what it needs to meet regulations but it does not exceed them'. It would be very hard to remain blissfully ignorant if that was what was being said about them by such an organisation. mercrocker 1
Lacquer Peel Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Dunno why you're so appalled that it exists. I'm sure they're fine as a short distance workhorse.
catsinthewelder Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 I really liked the HiJets and Carry that my last job provided, I was helping out there over the summer and was pleased got to have another quick go. Behind the bushes on the far left of the photo is a gate that is 1.5m wide and leads to the firepit where all the hedge clippings on the back were going. You have to fold the mirrors in to get the Suzuki through it so nothing else stands a chance. The fence blew down over the winter but I made sure to put the posts back in the same place (because they didn't want to pay for a new gate). Cleon-Fonte and Banger Kenny 2
Cleon-Fonte Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Bidding for this one is currently only at £520, a bargain if you need a cheap small van. I wonder if it's still solid underneath. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dfsk-loadhopper-/332393325767?hash=item4d642fa4c7:g:NMIAAOSwuD9ZwQ8w a lot of people think it is a BMW Banger Kenny, Lacquer Peel and CreepingJesus 3
mk2_craig Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 Quite a few over here, suit the narrow roads. Some tippers in the parks/playing fields and I'm sure there's a double cab knocking about. Van, 5 mins ago: oldcars and Lacquer Peel 2
danthecapriman Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 We've got a pickup version at work, all liveried up with vinyls etc and it's got a miniature cherry picker arm on the back! It looks ridiculous tbh but it must be really handy for getting into tight spaces the normal Sprinter cherry pickers cant get into. oldcars and Lacquer Peel 2
mercrocker Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 Our local Suzuki dealer had these in briefly. They seem to have given up flogging them lately, though. They sent me into ironic smiles when I saw them - its as if the Chinese saw Tata successfully* flogging 190E-faced Loadbetas and thought BMW might work.
mk2_craig Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 I keep looking out for these things. Here's a shite photo of one in service as a junk-hauling device, about two and a half years ago, with bonus camper-converted LDV content in background: And a better photo of a better example, snapped earlier this month. I'm impressed these DFSK contraptions are still going to be honest, I would have thought that tin worm and parts unavailability would have claimed them all by now. Lacquer Peel and egg 2
sutty2006 Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 We used to sell these at the MAN dealer I worked for years ago. Small, uncomfortable, unreliable, poor parts availability, unreliable, small, poor quality, small, and overall just crap. Avoid at all costs. steer clear. etc etc
Skut Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 Saw this one at Perth station late last year, brand new with factory stickers still in the window. It was at least a year after I thought imports ceased. They seem to have been introduced, withdrawn reintroduced about a dozen times. davehedgehog31, egg and Banger Kenny 3
sutty2006 Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 I’m unsure of how they have passed any kind of safety standard to be used on UK roads. The mind boggles

SiC Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 Maybe come under as a quadracycle like a G-Wiz did?

strangeangel Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 This eight year old one doesn't look all that bad really, £3500 seems a bit steep mind! Did they even cost that new? https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/653622708614813/ egg 1
philibusmo Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 My workplace has a heap of ISO leads for these in stock that we are never going to sell in case anyone here manages to get their hands one and wants to change the radio. mk2_craig 1
High Jetter Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 No. Shite to the power of X. Acty, supercarry, hi-jet - yes. Chinky crap,no.
Fabergé Greggs Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 I’m sure I’ve seen these used as park maintenance vans around east Devon. @holbeckwould know.
UltraWomble Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 We have one on the caravan park our van is at in dropside flavour. I quite like them
