Angrydicky Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Well here's my latest purchase, bought end of Jan, got it up to a roadworthy standard about 2 weeks ago, and have been cruising around like a winner since then!
Shep Shepherd Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I saw this very car on Sunday. The first time I had seen an A55 'Farina' in a very long while
eddyramrod Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Yep, definitely the ride of a Winna! Well done sir!
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Fabulous - I love these and the 59-61 Fintail Oxfords. A mate of my Dad's had a red over Farina grey A55 Mark 11 40 years ago - and it was a banger even then. So much better looking that the Cambridges before and after imho.
Cavcraft Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Absolutely lovely! Those early Farina ones are defo the best of the bunch too.
Justin Case Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Superb, Farina at his finest with a family car and that simple dashboard is very appealing. You seem to have a genius for picking up nice specimens of BMC's best, or is the Essex coast prime shite-hunting territory ?
dollywobbler Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Blimey you get your hands on some nice motors! Love it.
vulgalour Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Fins are for Winzars. Another thing on my very long want list is a bit of Pininfarina tin and something like this one would hit the spot very nicely. Original number plate?
Shep Shepherd Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 ^'YYV' is a London-issued registration plate, which tallies nicely with the supplying dealer's transfer on the glovebox lid, so I'd say yes
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Kwoliteh Farina Porn here: http://www.co-oc.org/Ox%20V.html Love the 'Cathedral' rear lamps of the '59 Oxford.
warren t claim Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Yep, definitely the ride of a Winna! Well done sir! Don't listen to Eddy! He has a Hi-Ab ticket!
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Delightful. That ignition switch positioning looks like an ergonomic nightmare, confirm/deny?
eddyramrod Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Don't listen to Eddy! He has a Hi-Ab ticket! For this, you mean?Don't worry! The company never saw fit to put me through the test, and while I was off-sick with my back injury, they took the crane off the truck anyway. So I left. Safety is restored. That's a bloody lovely car, enjoy it in good health, and especially in Coniston! (Yes, I know it's the other end of the country...)
skoda_fan Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Gorgeous motor you have there, sir. I've had a soft spot for Farina's for years. Love it
RedSparrow Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 What a lovely car! Definately on my want list one day. Guard it with your life!
ashmicro Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 That is fantastic. Hard to believe that's 50 years old.
Angrydicky Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 Delightful. That ignition switch positioning looks like an ergonomic nightmare, confirm/deny? Well it depends on the size of your bunch of keys, as mine is a bit overgrown, it can be a bit cumbersome... That's a bloody lovely car, enjoy it in good health, and especially in Coniston! (Yes, I know it's the other end of the country...) Where on earth is that? Sounds like some grim Northern place
eddyramrod Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 All the "grim" is waaaaaaaaaaaay south of Coniston, or in the Dark Land to the far north! Give me a few months and I'll be posting pics of shite cars in some of the most beautiful natural scenery there is... oh wait, I'm in Cyprus, I already do that!
AnthonyG Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Lovely stuff - a nice survivor. Do these have the 1622 'B', or a lower capacity engine?
Angrydicky Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 1489 B Series, the 1622 didn't come in until the A60. It's no road burner, but not as slow as you might expect. The synchro on the gearbox is a bit weak, but as long as you don't rush the changes it's quite usable. I've also got an A55 MK1 with the same engine but a column change rather than the floor change. This gets far more attention than the MK1 ever did, in fact it draws a crowd wherever I go in it! You seem to have a genius for picking up nice specimens of BMC's best, or is the Essex coast prime shite-hunting territory ? No I think it's just me . Most classic car fans around here only like Fords, Yanks and Custom Cars, so someone has to fly the flag for BMC Excellent. Appropriate* number plate too. *Given Pininfarina's habit of flogging the same design more than once. I hadn't noticed that Tayne! I don't think I've ever seen a 404 in this country, that was a lovely car but very rare now.
Parky Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 It's a beauty! Please don't park it anywhere near Arena Essex though!
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Iirc, the A55 Mk11 had a shorter wheelbase, narrower track and bigger wheels than the A60 as well. The A55 rear lamps were 'nicked' from the Mark 2 Zodiac and I seem to recall the A60 Countryman continued with these and the big finz.
dollywobbler Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 The style of the rear lamps may be similar to the Zodiac Mk2 (especially the ribbed chrome bits), but I think they are different lamps. Same treatment as the Morris Oxford Series VI and Traveller. Must admit, I prefer the looks of the later Farinas - these look a bit narrow and Commer-esque by comparison.
bigstraight6 Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 That's a lovely car, those earlier high finned Farina's were the best looking
