Our local collectibles shop survived the pandemic (he said the gov loans got him through). So I put a fiver in his pocket for these 4. All should be saveable somehow...

I posted a few weeks ago that I had obtained the final matchbox 75 to fill my old shop display.

The following picture is for men of a certain age who would tremble with excitement at the thought of spaffing 30 pence on the latest superfast.

As I had different models of the same number quite a few didn't make the cut.

A few more matchbox readers' wives -

Skybusters. When I was a toddler I was led to believe these were my favourite.

Wow. That's some serious dedication and/or cash to fill that up. I see pics like that on FB now and again but usually from collectors with seemingly endless funds to spend at Vectis

I bought the boss mustang and the vauxhall guildsman in 1988 - I had just left school. So it's taken 33 years. They are all boxed but some of the boxes have flaps missing - I am not one of these who has to have perfect boxes. I do not buy them much myself nowadays due to expense and needing money for other things. I usually ask for them at christmas or birthdays.

Have you tried to recreate a particular year or just anything as long as it's the right number?

Sometimes if I see a really tidy one I’ll pick it up if it’s less than a quid or so, I built a display from some ply and I put the better ones in there. That said most of my collection is battered as it’s pretty much all come from the car boot. I got right into the habit of trawling the car boots for them but lately I just don’t have the time so I just stick to finding the recent releases in Tesco and let the kids play with them and enjoy them.

Part of the fun for me was when you could find all the good ones for 20p in a big box, everyone knows they’re worth a trillion quid now so the moments passed somewhat. Perhaps I should cash my old crocks in and repay my mortgage!

I picked the ones I liked - usually the ones from childhood. I was hatched in the early 70's so it's superfast and corgi juniors I had most of. Special occasions would possibly see super kings / speed kings or the bigger corgi or dinky's as a gift. I think my favourite was the dinky eagle from space 1999 - I had a few of them - from memory they were around £3 which was quite expensive in 1976 / 77. My parents said when they first bought my cars thet were 12p.

Funny how you forget lots of things but you can always remember particular toys.

MUCH EXCITE has turned to SLIGHT DISAPPOINT. Scored a Graffic Traffic VW ambulance, hoping the overpaint was the removable.

Despite a scrub with a toothbrush and T-cut it's still stained a sickly yellow. Hmm

I found a few more Hot Wheels. Local Morrisons store isn't doing too badly lately.

Always liked this Chevelle casting. Nice tampos, reminds me of an old school dragger.

Like many others, I'm a big fan of this Dodge van, looks well in this colour.

I know, a bit OLLI. I wish they'd do this in a nice factory colour scheme with the "90" or "County" graphics like the old Matchbox version.

At last, managed to get the black Intergrowler.

Finally stopped dithering and got this too! Looks nice in all black and I like the miniature JDM printed sunstrip.

Post lady has been too, while I was at work,

IMG_20210623_230940.thumb.jpg.c481a3051be5993b0173690273628774.jpg

Not again!!!

IMG_20210623_231042.thumb.jpg.4e921b51638649f84cc098083ddd5f17.jpg

Holy grail time here though! I've been after a Vanguards Mk3 Cav for a long while. Sadly, as they didn't produce many variants (two police, two BTCC and three road cars), when they come up for sale, they either get snapped up quickly or have comedy price tags. (£50-£55 anyone?). To think when Corgi had a Black Friday sale a few years ago, I could have got the red SRI version for a tenner... This came up on eBay with a 'reasonable' BIN price, so I was allowed to nab it as one of my Father's day pressies!

IMG_20210623_232240.thumb.jpg.f834daca9e5e382d2d6bf530162713b3.jpg

Shape wise, it looks right. Corgi did a good job of modelling the saloon. The right bits for this 4X4 Turbo version are there, like the deeper front and rear bumpers, side skirts and Turbo-only 16" Turbine alloys.

IMG_20210623_231351.thumb.jpg.4f24965969ae19f3a4dcc3820d5aafd2.jpg

Nice detail on the front end. Nice headlights and grille/badge. Only gripe is with the painted on foglights. Nowadays they'd probably be separate units.

IMG_20210623_231555.thumb.jpg.f275fa88c1b9efa13a3973a2d932a576.jpg

Nice rear end too. The late model lights and number plate surround, and badging are all spot on, and great tailpipes.

IMG_20210623_232437.thumb.jpg.fba16670cf703f4c9868f8cf7fcb17ef.jpg

Main whinge is with the interior. Rear shelf speaker detail isn't too bad,

IMG_20210623_232124.thumb.jpg.864036d23c7fa8dc5b45f4e2e15fa428.jpg

But the seats are bloody awful! Blocky and shapeless, even the headrests are the wrong shape. It's like Corgi really couldn't be arsed, especially compared with their Sapphire Cosworth and it's pleated leather effect Recaros. I did read that Corgi had the BTCC versions first and foremost in mind when they decided to do the Mk3 (which is why it ended up as a saloon) Maybe a large part of the development budget was used to make the detailed racing interior on those.

IMG_20210623_231958.thumb.jpg.7b6d8677d576fe600dc1d89747273cf5.jpg

The dashboard's not as bad. After many thousands of miles driving Mk3s for a living, I definitely recognise that dash! IIRC it's a pretty good representation of the pre airbag sports wheel too.

IMG_20210623_231733.thumb.jpg.90b104c3c2e0b82567a967c2d891008b.jpg

I remember back in the day that these were one of 'the' wheels to have on a 5-stud Vauxhall. I remember a local 'Pharmaceutical distributor' years ago driving about in a Calibra Turbo with them on.

IMG_20210623_232407.thumb.jpg.f5bb9b7a23959dc9ca2b433e1c3a718f.jpg

Interior disappointments aside, I'm still glad to have finally got a MK3. Though I wish Corgi would give their well used Escort and Cortina moulds a rest and give us another. A facelift SRi in Rioja red would be fantastic....

Make a collection like the Little and large Dinkies which were discussed earlier.

When are we likely to get the Matchbox Capri? Or in usual Mattel fashion have they only decided to import 6 of what’s likely to be their most popular model.

We should have had it. It looks like we somehow skipped over the entire case, and even if we did get it, there was a solitary example in each box

I nearly bought a few more off Aliexpress the other night. Then I got distracted by something else...

I see yours also arrived with a bent card
