I've got the trailer here going spare.  It's a bit rough but it's here.

Slight tangent, but I bought a gem of a Corgi Major H Series truck and transporter setup a while ago. I hadn't realised what a lovely model they are - brilliant detail and feels like quality of a really expensive model. It's definitely a keeper.

Must...not...look...up... Corgi....H Series...artics.... 🤪

They really are glorious models... this wrecker version is missing a few bits, but still ranks as one of my all-time favourite market finds.

Detail is really good for a toy, and I'm still kinda kicking myself for not picking up some of the transporter versions at the last market day in December...

I've an 'Express Service' trailer, minus one of its rear doors, but no separate H Series tractor unit - yet...

Dug this out during my big spring-cleaning session the other day, and thought it might be appreciated here

It's the Soviet version of the ex-Mebetoys NSU Ro80, of course. Just like the real car industry did, Italian toy-makers offloaded lots of their outdated tooling to the Soviet Union in the 1970s which means there were all manner of weird European Politoys, Mebetoys (and a couple of Norevs) being built at various locations in the USSR long after they ceased production in the west.

20210331_111346.thumb.jpg.46fd089c6d04a0bdc52f546f2016dd55.jpg

This one, apparently, was built by ZMTK in the city of Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, probably from the mid-1970s. The original cast appeared when the Ro80 made its real-life debut in 1967

20210331_111401.thumb.jpg.6f29f46711023b72a514a8f044fb528b.jpg

It's a great model, with a full compliment of opening bits, although the paint is seriously poor compared to an Italian version, it's a heavy, chunky casting

20210331_111413.thumb.jpg.dbf41e581be478876f183414aa7a81cf.jpg

There is even a fair old representation of the rotary engine under the bonnet

20210331_111426.thumb.jpg.0a7affb94df457c3129dabcbc2b293d0.jpg

And amusingly, it's a 'PO80' in Cyrillic. I picked this up years ago for a couple of quid, but these days the USSR copies seem to be quite collectable in their own right.

The Ro80 was one of those infinitely popular subjects, with efforts from: Mebetoys, Dinky, Gama, Marklin (by far the best effort), Sablon, Husky and possibly others in period

I went to look it up.  That's deepest Cossack country.  So perhaps not surprising they did slap-dash painting, when they would rather be out and about, doing this sort of thing:

zaporizhia-2.jpg.027d0b7c99f49cfc7b1efed1d6d27a1b.jpg  Wahaaay!! 😄

Your PO80 looks good in that colour - especially as it reminds me of the 1975 brochure car I coveted as a child.  The paint might be poorly applied but it is at least nearer to  the "Cadice Orange" than any colour Mebetoys offered through production

nsu-ro80-brochure-1972-mint_360_fc13631134baaf6a8f321815828cc2f9.jpg.cfceee32da25d53e34fead5dcca44473.jpg

Anyhow, you made me ROll-out examples of RO80 by Dinky and Wiking for a visual compare.  Aww, don't ROll your eyes - it is Tat Wednesday

20210331_135638796_iOS.thumb.jpg.4c8e68d9d9cdf2c20a5d2d34f472d3fc.jpg

Of course, the Dinky is mainly cast metal and the Wiking (at HO scale for model train buffs) is all plastic

20210331_135651102_iOS.thumb.jpg.1e76306cd235c90bff6c78db4062805b.jpg

Good effort on Wiking to detail the wheels although they don't seem to match a wheel in the brochures, unlike other Wikings

20210331_135719219_iOS.thumb.jpg.3d06ce777b462a377acc2836dbd87f96.jpg

Dinky's selling point* was its lighting circuit

20210331_135705124_iOS.thumb.jpg.b013213f1986a6192a0a4656138763bf.jpg

Quite a large car, the RO80: longer than a Vauxhall Viscount, believe it or not.  The Dinky measures to approx scale 1:42 and the Wiking to 1:85.

Seriously nice RO80s!

I got a couple of new bits;

Corgi Sierra, must be quite a late one as it's Chinese. Shame the already broken roof light got further damage in the jiffy bag

It came with a donor to fix two other Regals - has the missing roof light for the police one and the glazing for the Kojak car

20210331_162044.thumb.jpg.6577b367325687bd9eab862b17cd6789.jpg

A Matchbox Buick too, but a LeSabre

This one seemed pretty cheap. I can only assume it's because it a genuine Duke Of Harards model. Is it from London Town?

That's absolutely glorious. It has a charm all of its own - and it's nice that these are finally being recognised on their merits, rather than being seen as cheap knock-offs. Well found!

Some sort of heavy corrosion. It's as purchased from @Datsuncogor @bunglebus if my memory serves me right. I've sourced an equally ratty Matchbox Lambretta Series 2 to match my real one and they seemed an ideal match. I reckon it was a garden find or something.

What is that fawn coloured crusty stuff?

It may have been stored in a box next to an old AA battery or something - seems to be electrolytic corrosion. Or else had some salt-laden Play-Doh next to it, mebbe?

I used to have a Lesney VW T1 barn-door camper which was really badly corroded, possibly from either battery or salt damage. Sadly it fell to bits completely, though I think I still have the rear section.

Reminded me of a ruined T2 dumped on some waste ground that I used to play in as a kid.

On the day that the forum Sierra Base gets an MOT pass its fitting that I receive in the post my black Vanguards Sapphire. I'm really excited about this one as these were a favourite of mine to spot when they were still common on the roads back in the late 1990s/early 2000s.

Here's an update to my time spent on my own in a decent hotel in the centre of Auckland. No questionable TV choices or visits to massage parlours for me. Let's take photos of pocket money toy cars, instead!

51006515690_37f5e1c1b6_b.jpg

Here's a nice little SL Merc, from that 1/76 manufacturer that I can't now remember the name of but that was receiving positive chat coverage on here at the time of buying last week, which was the catalyst for buying. That and it was 50p. Note the material setting, which is a nod to the checked seat pattern these racing Mercedes often had. Nicely considered, Jon.

51075800912_b978969764_b.jpg

This is a Fun Ho! Mercedes, a casting made in NZ, so quite nice to have an example of. Really not bothered about having a good one when the whole sum is this basic but fair play to 'em, it's still got charm and some of the casting is really quite nice.

51075799972_5c976550e8_b.jpg

Oooh, very arty! Have a mild flex as to my 14th floor hotel room with view of the Sky Tower. Don't think I've wasted that view whatsoever, eh?!

51075800687_2284a1ba29_b.jpg

I'm not quite sure what my interest was with putting things in glasses that evening but hey, here's a 50p Siku Audi in one. Obviously, this is waaay too late a casting for my highbrow collecting tastes. But it was 50p, so my inner Trebus relented. Credit where it's due though, it's a good effort, just a bit of a boring subject.

51075698901_a6b2c3c01b_b.jpg

This is the kind of thing that aged 10 I would've not been interested in. But 3 decades on, scrabbling round a 50p tub on my knees, somehow the nostalgia of 80's Matchboxes proved too much. Seen here transporting some depressingly ubiquitous hotel fridge cargo.

51006516520_b38f933c0f_b.jpg

Watch out!!

51006516505_01d91654f4_b.jpg

See reasons above re: 80's Matchbox Dodge and apply to this 80's Matchbox Dodge. Except, I actually had one of these and enjoyed its presence in my toy stash.

51075800572_7f028db975_b.jpg

Whilst it's true that my original version had plenty of carpet time, this didn't stop me wishing it were a Hilux instead, as then at least I'd have some reference to it and it would look a little more accurate in my play time scenes (which was seemingly an important aspect of childhood whimsy and explains a lot, in hindsight). None of this however outweighed my confusion (and thus mental negativity towards it) as to why Dodge had named their pickup Dakota Street. Or was it Dakota Saint? I must've been an adult, by the time I encountered another example of this casting and the penny dropped...

Posted

The Dakota (and its ruff trek wheels) really was a favourite of mine. I’m not sure if it was a good model or a good colour choice, but it was a favourite - cheers for that Jon 👍
