US Army uses Ford D-Series shocker!

Posted

Was surprised to find the '32 Ford in Poundland alongside the new 2020 range stock, as it is listed as a 2019 colour.  It was the only one.  Same as @TheDoctor's local, the shelf does not have the pricing labelled correctly - it stated £1.  Yet they are £1.50 at the till.  I mentioned this to duty manager who was passing and he gave me some excuse that didn't add up, so I decided he was a cock and left it.

Also the sole VW Golf at the big Tesco.  The rest of the box was all last year's stock.  I don't understand what they are up to.  Cocks.

FIRE BIRD TRANSAN

Yes, that is what it says.  Mis-translation things like this make me smile.

It's not so bad really.  It is at least recognisable as a 1978 Pontiac Firebird complete with central hood 'shaker', cross-hatch grille and inset front turn signals.  The door panel gap could fit a Bella Emberg through, but still.

Any idea who made this?

Those Major Corgis must have been pricey/unpopular new because you almost never see them now. Same for the tractors they did with the fragile plastic attachments.

Just FYI, if a shop has something priced lower than it rings up on the till, they are obligated by law to only charge you the advertised price. I know it's only a quid, but I'd definitely have 'made a scene' particularly if some cock tried to fob you off

This is true, but if they want to be get technical, they can 'take it off sale' for a certain period*, therefore you don't get to buy it at the cheaper price, and it reappears later at the 'new' price. This is handy in retail if your inexperienced colleague has labelled a really expensive product incorrectly. My partner has been a retail manager for most of her life, so knows the other side to this quite well.

*it's something like 24/48 hours.

My wife picked up a pair of boots in Zara that were labeled on the shelf as £90 but the tag attached said £15. When she told me she was going to chance it I walked to the back of the shop in embarrassment. The cashier consulted the manager and ultimately honoured the sale at £15.

My wife asked nicely rather than waving a virtual Consumer lawbook in the air which is possibly why she got lucky. I couldn't believe it!

I couldn't see myself getting anywhere with Mr minimum-wages-worth

Besides, the queue was full of heavy, sweaty, hairy people who really didn't care what a social distance was, having sugar-fuelled children in pants and wellies clambering over the shelving to entertain them

Posted

I think they changed the rules on shelf pricing - it's an "invitation to sale" and up to the customer to check it's correct at the till. Most shops will honour it but once I had a manager "go and check the price" and change what it said while he was there ?

Picked this up at car show, in recent years

Porsche 911T in 1/60 scale

Brand was a new one on me: DARDA MOTOR, Made in W. Germany.   I assume that despite its clean condition, it predates David Hasselhoff singing on a wall in Berlin.

The Carlos Fandango wheel set might look daft but the sprung motor inside is very strong and it needs the extra traction to get off the line.  In fact, despite a rubber insert in the rear wheels, it spins them, lunges forward at great lick, flies off the desk and clouts the wall.  The wife was elated.

The quality of the engineering, paint and decals is very good.  Is it rare?  Is it valuable?  Any more DARDA in the AS  fold?   I might have found my new thing.

They go for good money on eBay. I'd really like the Porsche and the Beetle, there's a KITT too.

I only have a buggy with a broken motor and a copy.

You can still buy spares for them, again not cheap

With that front bumper damage, it would actually be a reasonable depiction of how Dad's car looked after hitting a hare on his way to work.

This is a nice one too.

Wob-look rear arches aside, that's terrific! I had no idea such a model existed. Might need to invest. It'll have to be next month, though, as my better half is a little disgusted by how many suspiciously toy car sized boxes are arriving, when I patently don't have anywhere to tidily keep them...

Ah, balls, that Sierra is available for less than a tenner posted.  (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-43-SCALE-1984-FORD-SIERRA-GHIA-IN-LIGHT-BLUE-NEW-IN-BLISTER-PACK/164219972422?hash=item263c45eb46:g:k10AAOSwgrxexO43)

That means I've just spent another tenner.

Makes me wonder what else was in the European partwork range it was released in. And potentially puts my wallet in serious peril.

EDIT: What is it about the Sierra's wheelarches that make it so hard to model?

Having ordered that 1:43 Ghia, I'm wallowing in the realisation that its proportions really aren't that hot (I still have to have it, though.... because Sierra Ghia). I've found that Neo got on the scene, too, with a shitetastic 1.6 GL.

Headlights and grille look great:

Rear end is on the money:

Wheelarches are annoyingly awful, and doorhandles are questionable, but CHECK OUT THOSE TRIMZ!

Everywhere that's ever stocked them seems to be out of stock, but as the cheapest ex-listing has it at about sixty quid, I won't lose too much sleep.

On Sunday, I had a bit of a sort out while in the loft. I'd got hold of a big plastic box and thought I'd box up the Hot Wheels I'd acquired so far. It was after I'd sorted through and grouped them up, I realised I may have a problem...

I'm certainly no completionist, I just buy whatever I fancy, but it turns out I have quite a few versions of certain models. Lots of raised eyebrows from the Mrs...

This is the one that kicked my interest back off. I had quite a few HW as a kid after my local toy shop started selling them alongside the usual MB superfast and Corgi Juniors in the '80s. But this Celica was on a clipstrip in Tesco back about 2010 and thought it looked a nice version, not too overdone. My adult HW habit had started!

IMG_20200531_191810.thumb.jpg.b0841de2bfba3fc35fe075a88347d5f6.jpg

These are some more from a while back. Again, I like these as although they are quite lairy colour wise, they are quite authentic with factory graphics and not over-wheeles like a lot of HW stuff.IMG_20200531_150946.thumb.jpg.472e4bd5ce6f5cab313edbdca7ab4ded.jpg

It was the launch of the MK1 Escort casting that got me collecting them seriously again. Sainsbury's had a 2 for 1 sale at the time and I almost filled a basket!. Sadly the white-with-blue stripes Escort I got then is now uncarded and in 201_Jr's 'opened' collection. Now searching for a good carded example...

I do like the Civic EF casting, another Then and Now at the bottom with the Type R. There are a couple of the Bisimoto-liveried Type Rs and  a couple of the new 2018 Type Rs too, not pictured.

Hmm, more of these than I thought too. The two standard looking ones at the bottom are my favourites.

That's it for the JDM Yo! selection, apart from a couple of Scooby's, the BRAT, a F&F style late Impreza and the Matchbox SVX.

Sorry, but German content incoming...

IMG_20200531_191212.thumb.jpg.3b6e62a4d9482d749165c56636812d57.jpg

I do like the CSL casting, which is why I ended up with a few. I like the E36 as well, not a casting you see much of.

The rest of the M squad. Somewhere there is a white with M stripes M2 as well. I have a feeling it's in the glovebox of the car...

IMG_20200531_190258.thumb.jpg.245d5716a1350617b15713cd2ff679ab.jpg

Anyone for Golf? The MB Countrys really are something else! Note Then and Now orange MK2 and Mk7. The Mk7 casting is a nice one, they really need to do the Factory Fresh treatment on that.

IMG_20200531_180211.thumb.jpg.6adbf523c676283fc4e923cd783f42d3.jpg

And some pineapple transportation devices? (Don't shoot me but I do quite like the ratty T1s...)

Realised I also forgot to get pics of the Porsches, including the Then and Now white 930 turbo and GT3, the purple GT3 and 944 Turbo.

Also disappointing for a Merc fanboy like myself is that Hot Wheels haven't really bothered their arses with Mercs like they have with other marques, so there are only a couple of AMG GTs, the new style A Class and my most prized HW so far, the 190e 2.5 Evo2 with Real Rider wheels representing the marque

IMG_20200531_191947.thumb.jpg.0a8f28b1def487aa5251672be2923f9c.jpg

Two of my favourite Matchboxes, proving they can do a much better job with some models than Hot Wheels.

Last instalment, honest!

Sadly by now, it was getting late, and the need to get shit loads of toy cars boxed up and back into the loft was now pressing.

So the American Fords failed to get pictured. Surprisingly there weren't that many. A few standard modern Shelby Mustangs (they do a pretty good job of the 2017 Shelby), a couple of earlier GT350s, a Fox Body Mustang, a couple of Torinos and a few '60s style Cougars represent the Ford's.

A few Chevys got papped though...

IMG_20200531_173431.thumb.jpg.ff5b0f601cfa95b3904509daa9510812.jpg

I love that '70 Chevelle casting

IMG_20200531_173530.thumb.jpg.866ef00af4e3ef11d018e9335c1ce836.jpg

A couple of 'different' takes on the Bel-Air

IMG_20200531_172442.thumb.jpg.2a16e1eb9257e38fe863f63855bf8441.jpg

And the Rod Squad! Somehow the grey Jerry Rigged wagon avoided getting pictured.

IMG_20200531_190549.thumb.jpg.ba7a004a3c9c7cef2a28ceb71265bfe8.jpg

Thanks to Poundland and Home Bargains, I also managed to pick up a few modern Majorette releases at knock down prices. I don't think I paid more than a quid for them, even the premium ones, I like these releases as a lot of them are just ordinary, everyday stuff, even future autoshite in a few cases. I was super chuffed to get the lime green C4 Cactus, then to find the C3 version. The Citroen Nemo is a cute thing and I like the Giulietta and Adam. The early Merc A Class compares well with the later Hot Wheels version.

IMG_20200531_190709_1.thumb.jpg.99dbc0b7e5e6f6297261e072075f888b.jpg

The 'premium' selection. The G Wagen isn't strictly my bag, but it's an impressive chunk of toy for the money.

So that's it for the mini-shite selection. I'm.sure there are a few more.

No doubt about it, it's easy to get hooked on these little b'stards. At least with the lockdown, I'm not out shopping as much, so little shite purchases have been curtailed a little...

The Sun Star Escort has been looking a bit sad lately. Its suffered a bit from the dreaded Sun Star zinc pest which led to the bonnet seizing, then snapping clean in half.

I have seen someone on one of the FB diecast site have the same thing happen, and he managed to superglue, fill and paint his, but as luck would have it, I found someone on eBay with a few Escort spares, so I nabbed the bonnet.
