I always wanted that D-series kit, but never got one.  Took me many years just to get my hands on the sweeper version.

This is my Christmas present from the GF, think she's a keeper! I had one but it was battered

.

That tipper also came in kit form, so your code 3 may not actually have had factory paint at all.

Ah, that makes sense. I had no idea.

Where paint is dropping off, there's no evidence of previous colour. It's only the considerable overpaint on the chassis that pointed to it being a DIY effort.

Had this since I was a kid so most likely a good 30 years! Think I got it for Christmas paints seen better days and you could also get it as a police car and rally's car with the same registration.

Also have a Skoda 136 Matchbox car somewhere as well.

But I did just buy myself this today.

That's awesome, but £7.99 for a Hot Wheels car!?

That's the cheapest I could find lol.... there's been quite a lot of interest from Volvo Owners wanting it.

I'm sorry to say that I went shopping the other day and saw an offer of 5 x hotwheels for $10 (about a fiver) and managed to find 5 of those 850 touring cars, before deciding that there probably wouldn't be much demand for them here, now that they seem to be hitting uk shelves.

But in all honesty, spending 8 quid on something you really want is hardly going to see anyone out on the streets, so Merry Christmas sierraman! Sorry, I mean Twisterboy!

Have I seemingly found a goldmine of Volvo 850's, then?!

The reason I have never paid ebay prices for a desireable HotWheels is 3 fold.

1) Greedy collectors take 10 at a time or as many as they can get their dirty little hands on and then either sell them at a profit or use them in a trade which is heavily biased in their favour. You can spot them from a hundered miles away though so easily avoided.

2) They will become commonplace in a few months.

3) I enjoy the chase and also happy that I paid the correct £1.50 or so for one.

Try The Entertainer,  that's where I got mine. They always have the latest cases, Tesco are slow and way behind.

I must lay my mitts on one of these, never seen one in the red, probably the most common real life colour.

I still have mine with those wheels which are of the rarer variety IIRC

Weren’t they called Real Workin Rigs?

Kids got a Hot Wheels loop the loop thing for Xmas, is actually quite a lot of fun, the kids like it anyway. The newer matchbox don’t seem to work as good in it as the Hot Wheels, they seem to roll a lot better.

The Rallycross car was the John Welch car,I used to see it a lot as they are based about a mile from where I live.

I had a look on German eBay,there's one in a BP box,& also a World Cup version.

I loved the MB MK2 Astra when it came out, as much as I liked the real thing. Our main toy shop in the town was a big Matchbox dealer but the first place I saw the Astra was in the window of a small newsagent that I was riding past on my bike, aged 11. Even then, my taste in diecast was more towards the more mundane, everyday stuff. I also loved the fact it was RHD and with a UK registration number.

I had to have it.

So , after saving that weeks pocket money, I went down and got it. Inside the shop, I then saw they also had the bright green Camaro Iroc-Z, and the Golf MK2 GTi.

So that was my pocket money getting saved up for the next couple of weeks...

1985 & 1986 were good years for Matchbox. That Astra was the more common version with the 8 hole wheels and it got those wheels played off it. I reluctantly had to bin it when the base plate snapped around the front rivet. But I finally got a replacement in very nice condition a couple of years ago, (with those older type superfast wheels), in a small joblot I bought from this very thread. Still one of my all time favourite smol MB castings.

SNAP !

Gah! Saw this and popped it in a bundle thinking it was perfect for you, and here we are now with forum over-supply! ?

Limited Connectables research told me (Charlie Mack was no help) that the Kellogg’s tie was for cereal Rice Krispies; three models to collect tokens and send off for:

SNAP was the beetle

CRACKLE was ?

POP was the road roller

What Charlie Mack did say in his Matchbox Tyco Years book was the range was UK-only, although were released later in Germany in orange rather than grey [silver]
