Someone on Tumblr has made a mock up of the never-released Corgi DeLoreon, check it out here:

Wow, that's a stunning set of replicas he's crafted! Cheers for that, most interesting...

The usual Corgi blister pack lettering advising "One year money back warranty" has particular significance here - as that's more than the buyers of the real DeLoreans ever got...

Corgi for right up to near production stage with the Road Rover (I think..) in the 60’s then pulled the plug.

Yup, so I'd heard - it'd been assigned the range code 212 by Corgi and they were tooling up ready for the real-life motor show launch, when BMC suddenly got cold feet on the 'luxury Land Rover' concept and pulled the whole thing...

Apparently Corgi weren't best pleased.

Probably sensible though.

I mean, who'd ever want to drive a luxury Land Rover??

Some early Christmas prezzies to myself.

Tara Green drives a Maxi but her sister Jade Green has a Princess 2200 HLS complete with brown vinyl roof

It did look preposterous though didn’t it. It is fascinating to look back at the models that didn’t quite make it. Matchbox brought out plans to make a Airport Fire Tender in the 70’s to take on Corgis version then at the last minute mothballed it. Can’t off hand find a picture though.

Isn't that Beemer a 6-series? And the yellow thing doesn't really look like a Horizon.

On the subject of models that didn't reach production, supposedly Dinky were planning a new bus when they collapsed. Was it something sensible like a Leyland National? Oh no, it was going to be an American transit bus in Liverpool Football Club livery because that's totally authentic and what every child really wants, isn't it? Probably a good thing that bizarre piece of junk never made it to market really but you have to wonder what strange thoughts were going through their product planners' minds.

Erm, @Datsuncog it would have been Rover that got cold feet, not BMC . Rover was never actually part of BMC, Leyland  yes, BLMC undoubtedly , BL yep, Leyland Cars, Jaguar Rover Triumph. Even  Austin Rover, British Aerospace , BMW, Phoenix , Roewe . Have I missed out anyone on the path of destruction from 1967?

That's interesting - it seems that the arches were modded twice, once for early Superfast wheels and then again for the larger items - the rear door's getting smaller and smaller each time!

Also, on the later Superfast version, looks like the opening tailgate's been deleted too? At least that means it won't be missing...

Not one that's familiar to me, and interesting to see that it's a modified DeLorean model - kind of like when Matchbox were prevented from releasing their take on the Dodge Viper RT/10 in 1993 due to a licensing wrangle, and instead made a few casting mods before launching it as the generic 'Sunburner' instead...

Yes the tailgate is incorporated on the late superfast version - and missing on my early one!

The Tourismo is a cool piece alright, check out those tail lights!

Mattel released this version of the (proper) DeLorean as a nod to the original

There's the Military version of the Matchbox Binz Ambulance too. From what I remember, the tailgate doesn't open, but the wheels don't look as wide as those on the white wide-wheeled version. @bunglebus,that white Corvette with the number 35 is nice,is that a recent release?

@Datsuncog if your AEC Mercury is still looking for a home, I'd quite like it.

Got two Matckbox Superkings ERF fire engines coming as well, one to replace the one I had as a kid that was recently damaged and the other can feasibly go to whomever wants it for postage. The two were less than £6 posted, which is probably what they'll cost to send being heavy buggers.

Off topic I suppose but my mate used to own PVW620R and I drove it myself many times. 2200 manual, it went like fuck and would cruise at 75-80 even without a fifth gear. Anyway, as you were..

Nice set of Dinkys in great condition.  I managed to buy all three with pocket money back in the day. Even then I preferred humdrum chod to a brace of Ferraris. As a young child I never understood why they chose such stupid registration numbers:  INJ 483C  could never exist. Or perhaps that was the reason - so it could never duplicate a real car.
