My word I remember the little white Sierra, Defo had this at some point in my life.

Does anyone remember the little Pointers Food Transit?? I had this as a kid and found one at my sons playgroup a month or so back. Was so tempted to pocket it!

IMG_5091.JPG

Yes I have one albeit with the then-new cloverleaf style wheels. They were part of the BP petrol station promotion in 1988. Its definitely the most accurate MK3 Transit casting out there.

Well jel of the GT Vantastic. Your Nomad is from 2004, using the first of two re-tools of the original 1969 casting

Posted

Guessed as much as tampo is way too young, seen it before and wondered why they didn’t update the base date(s). Retooling isn’t exactly cheap and is the time to add extra details? ; after all you’d state it on a book reprint etc

Posted

Pretty much all diecasts just have the original copyright date cast into the base. Newer HW have a code printed on the base to denote month and year of production though

That explains where it came from we used to have a BP Garage along the street from us, my dad must have collected what was required and sent them off!

Great catalogue ta for posting that. I had the Maestro with the working lights very cool it was, although having that feature did compromise the model a bit.

The outline shown of the new one to be released looks like a BX. Did Corgi make that?

Don't think I've ever seen the driving school Acclaim or the cabrio Range Rover before

I’ve got the Rapport Range Rover somewhere. Think it was something to do with James Bond?

Posted

the raport range rover is from the opening sequence of Octopussy, where Roger Moore jumped into the miniature jet inside the horse box and escape from the Russian. Cuban other commie stooges chasin them, after first blowing up a series of hangers while avoiding some surface to air missiles.

i remember having the set as a nipper, though sadly its now long gone, shame as i think in good order they are worth something now.

1983, wasn't that the year when Mettoy went under?

MK1 is always sought after, only found one so far - look out for it on a white card, it's an ID chase car

I had the driving school Acclaim in red but I seem to recall it was a Honda Ballade. Fairly sure I've mentioned it before on here and somebody confirmed it but I can't remember who or when. (I had the metallic blue Acclaim too, but I haven't seen either of them or my red Sierra since about 1997.Fuck knows where they are)

When I was small I would regularly visit the local shop for a skybuster. When they came out they were 17p.

Yep now you say that it does look like an 11, my error.

Next release from Hachette is a C15 in 1/24 scale.

It'll be 25.99 in frog shops or silly money on ebay.

Of course I will be buying one. Then painting it red like my first C15 :)

My friend Euan had the Charleston 2cv, I got the red and white example from my school Fayre for 10p with a missing headlamp. Another that my mum did a good job of repainting for me and a decade or so later I made a new lamp from layers of plasticard filed to shape. I still have it.

I'm not sure of the Chevrolet radio van in red, nor the Juniors train and passenger car but I know all the other ones from the above list were launched. I don't think I missed an XJ 6 Tour de France set, so presumably you mean the 505, one of which I picked up sans all the accassories, a few weeks back:

48685738592_284699a02c_b.jpg

That said, I had a red Ferrari 308 GTB but it was a much later Mobil issued one, so I'm not sure whether it was launched as a Magnum PI one, too. Interesting to see so many of the TV/film tie-in ones were also sold within the standard range too, completely unaltered!

Incidentally, I think my brother and I must have both had the James Bond Range Rover sets back in the day, as I vaguely remember us having 2 glider-launcher horse boxes, though strangely don't remember duplicates of the glider and RR. The RR shown there isn't actually a production model, as that one came only with the windscreen and not the door frame surrounds, as shown. As a set, it was a good concept but crap in execution; launching the glider out the back of the horse box would see it tumble out a couple of inches, in a ball of hinged wings and fuselage. That's if it didn't hit the side walls when launched, or get slowed down by the mock horse's bum!

Two further things of note about the James Bond Set. The Range Rover was a totally different casting to the rescue services RR that was around at the time, which I always found strange. The horse box was also very tall and being towed behind a cut-roof Range Rover only accentuated this. It was also at odds to the other Corgi Juniors horse box seen being towed behind a Rancho, which is tiny!
