I almost overlooked this one today

Matchbox Superfast 72 Jeep

I thought it was just another of the Hot Rod Jeep descendants of many names;

Matchbox Superfast II Sleet-N-Snow

but this is the old #72 jeep, as a Superfast, Never found one before

Matchbox 72b Jeep

I am generally of the opinion that Ferraris are bought by people trying to compensate for a shortcoming somewhere in their lives.

However if you grew up in the 80s, you probably either had a poster of one of these, or drove it in Outrun, or watched a TV show with one in

You got me thinking, according to my dog-eared paper list apparently I have one (but I'm now wondering if I accidentally bought the non-Superfast version). Will try and dig it out today/tomorrow.

A few new Hot Wheels from a restock in Tescotainer yesterday - because hey, with their near-perpetual 3-for-2 offer, if you can find one model you like you can probably find another, and then you're into OMG FREE CAR territory:

IMG_20260408_1452592.jpg.c249fd733c4dee33106d53a622bb9924.jpg

Skyline is a belter. Paint looks great in deep metallic copper:

IMG_20260408_145345.jpg.d338f03da82873b5f7264cbc00b90b0c.jpg

IMG_20260408_145352.jpg.060385d6f9f6c3c678d001e47cf86c5e.jpg

I think this version of the Kenmeri Skyline looks rather better here on these larger wheels than with the smaller ones seen on other recent releases (like last year's Liberty Walk custom version).

Tampo detailing to the rear slam panel is subtly done, adding the GT-R badging and picking out the lights.

Base is also surprisingly detailed for a Hot Wheels model; usually they're a bit plain:

IMG_20260408_1454022.jpg.768e51ac2cecb823e0bfa060ad003fe8.jpg

Sierra Cosworth in quasi- Mr Tomkinson Carpets colour was a bit too nice to pass up - and keeping with the pink theme, I had a Homer Simpson car previously when it was first launched, but then regretted selling it on a few years back. So, full circle. Same thing happened with the DeLorean DMC-12 too.

Matchbox bin was full too, but think they're still on Mix C cases as there were none of the newer releases I'm still looking out for. But - in time, they'll likely turn up.

I had a similar situation arise not to long ago where my local Pepco store ( Pound land ) had a buy 2 get 1 free.

In other news more very cheap 1/18 projects have landed, the Trans Am is in need of an interior and repairs needed to the Landcruiser.

Hey mini shite fans, I’d quite like one of these Matchbox XR2s, though haven’t looked too hard for any. I did find some 90s era Majorette cars in a box the other day, hoping somebody might be up for a swap? Will need to dig them out and take photos.

Matchbox have recently released a new 5-pack featuring a black Mk2 Fiesta - apparently Morrisons have them on their shelves at a good discount right now, so finding one of those might be your best bet.

The red and green mainline versions are 2024 and early 2025 releases respectively, so they'd be harder to track down now in shops - eBay can sort you out though, at a price (about £7 posted for a carded green version and £15 for the red).

I did pick up a fair few green ones as spares when they were current, but traded my last one on here a few months back, sorry!

EDIT: £6.60 in Morrisons for the five-pack, per @ambassador84's post last weekend (and stolen pic):

20260406_122746.jpg

Sainsbury's are also running a '2 for £12' offer on Matchbox five-packs at the minute, though I haven't seen this pack appear on my local's shelves yet.

Tesco and The Entertainer also likely to get them in eventually, Toymaster branches too (maybe).

A few recent ‘builds’ I’ve got going on.

Ive done a second Scammell Routeman, this one is a series 2 cab and a tanker. It’s the usual 3D printed cab and mashup of several IXO/Partwork trucks with some scratch built bits added as needed. Tanker body is just drying off after a coat of gloss varnish ready for the transfers to go on tomorrow hopefully. Pretty obvious which company it’ll be!

IMG_9340.jpeg.7495dee77936a6e00597322bd5ad049c.jpeg

IMG_9339.jpeg.47dfcbc5ca1a091fd260603ac4a2b38d.jpeg

Partwork/IXO Bedford CF van has had its cab removed and converted into a chassis cab tipper.
Rear cab wall is plastic card, layers of it to build up the shape then filler and sanding to smooth it out. Tipper bed is a spare from another model cut down to fit the CF. Chassis and wheels from a Russian GAZ van.

IMG_9304.jpeg.e188b97ca1df47ecef7537ab6091437e.jpeg

IMG_9302.jpeg.64bca43b9732f07c842d3324e9f66e88.jpeg

3D printed CAT loader is having some details painted in (seen at the back!).
Partwork Leyland Comet has been stripped down (was a tanker) and had a spare bed from a Bedford TJ fitted, which was a surprisingly easy fit. A few more mods to do and it’ll become a modern 1:43 scale version of the old Dinky model next to it.

IMG_9337.jpeg.ca707dd36c6d73dd0769e95a8ebd0457.jpeg

Still loads on the bench gradually being reassembled and finished off too. Not the most interesting of progress until they get finished though.

Well, I put a set of crystals in the controller and the car and also added fresh batteries. The steering was working but not the motor. After a few minutes of poking around I found that the red wire to the motor had detached. It’s now working!

Very well. Until I realised I actually don’t have an allen key small enough to fit the screws for the base! So I’ve ordered a set with some micro ones in. All the ones I’ve got are way too big.

was going to use one of the bases from the donor’s you sent as my original one is quite worn and spattered with old paint but the bases are different between pickup and wrecker. I’ll clean up the original and paint it but probably use the best wheels from your donor’s as mine are pretty poor.

Im thinking of not going ‘full on’ with the details but going slightly further than Corgi did and just doing things like the grill & lights.

I spotted this at a local show the other day and thought of you😄

 Great job.

One of those Comets would make a great basis for a "Hell Drivers" recreation, as the "parrot nose" Dodge's they used in the film were very similar.

Don't think that hasn't crossed my mind too!  Just need a shorter wheelbase and a higher-sided tipper body :)
