Another not quite a Graffic Traffic finished, or not as it turned out in the end

You might remember I had a bit of a problem trying to get the plastic base painted the right colour. It refused to go anything but pink, and also resisted all attempts to get the paint off again. In the end it went in the paint stripper, a gamble that didn't pay off and it melted into a blob.

Plan B was the metal base from an older release, I couldn't do much about it being made in Macau rather than Thailand, but I did my best to make it looks like slightly yellowed plastic, and even ground the scale marking off the front in a quest to disguise it's origins

PXL_20260405_110729045.jpg.52ae6ef49c5425c7f47ef6afa76ce3bd.jpg

However what I'd somehow completely missed was the change inboard of each wheel, the metal base has a notch that the inside of the wheel sits in, the plastic does not

PXL_20260326_112234122

The problem this causes is that the narrower wheels now flop about like...well you know

PXL_20260405_110740738.jpg.d4bdebc3d8deba78ab9515de3529fb61.jpg

Sigh. On the lookout for a plastic base now, and a better way of painting it.

The donor also gave up its rear spoiler as it needed to come off for painting, but decided it didn't like having a hole drilled in one of its posts.

Windscreen is the original, dyed with synthetic clothes dye. Not quite as red as I wanted but that's as much as it seems to want to change

I had hoped the Ideal Stunt Squad body I unearthed might fit the mismatched base I found the other week, but it doesn't.

It's madness that they made the bases all different to fit specific bodies, rather than one base and different bodies that all fit it

Conscious that "we should do something... anything" to make the most of our Easter downtime, we took a little trip out to Felixstowe yesterday.

One of the more interesting shops is the bricks and mortar outpost of Nick Barber Auctions. By all accounts they're a proper auction operation that deals with gen-you-wine collectables that are "worth having". They're not interested in rammle.

But what to do with it? Well, they put it in big plastic rammle tubs at 50p a shot. So I had a rummage.

First to surface was this Superfast Cortina

20260405_180843.jpg.d9c0d973f02db50349479a69c4d5a8b3.jpg

Very slightly bent roof, but in tidier condition generally than my lighter blue example, whose front suspension has collapsed somewhat. Both doors are present, too.

20260405_180829.jpg.5026ea46daa766d3a115832ec3e644f3.jpg

I also picked up its bigger brother. There were actually two in the tub, so I took the one with the most paint still present. I honestly don't think I've ever chanced upon a Matchbox Zodiac before. It looks a bit gangly from this angle but is actually quite a nicely resolved thing.

20260405_180740.jpg.c65314d78f693a878e1048b84b1aa880.jpg

Very nice underbonnet detail, too, with a separate chrome moulding for the set-back Essex V6 and "yeah, lets put it HERE. WHY NOT" spare wheel.

Anyway. NEXT

20260405_180815.jpg.e49f79677a547ff4a34b2641b1c24068.jpg

Picked up this round-arch Marzal. I already have the older, proper-arch release (and the Super GT version), so now I have a complete set.

20260405_181409.jpg.079f25b37820f4e4d0141586cbe7fd3a.jpg

Superfast Merc is by far the shiniest of the haul; it's actually in remarkably good nick for being excavated from the bottom of a rammle tub. Opening boot, too.

And finally:

20260405_181426.jpg.068e5c9d42a18bdb0050c01601d65f32.jpg

Corgi Whizzwheels Scimitar. Needs a damn good scrub. In fact, all of them do. I shall have some bathtime fun later on.

"What on Earth are you up to in there?"

"Oh, the usual, love".

I would have liked to go to the toy fair just down the road at Polegate, but Mrs Concern has been keen to go to the Faversham Antique Market on the 1st Sunday of each month for some while so I gave in.

However I didn't come back empty handed.

Now as you know I don't collect 1/36 scale Corgis so I only bought two of them

Never seen a Mk2 Transit milk float before

Next a much discussed recently and not seen by me before Torino Ground Hog

Aerials still attached and stickers in good nick

Here with the Starsky & Hutch Gran Torino I got recently

IMG_4413.JPG.90f9d2d833713cba6a6fbfed0643ac7f.JPG

Not sure why it has what looks to be Firebird decals...

And does this...

A very nice King Size Gran Fury missing the aerial and the trunk lid, I'll have to look and see if I have a donor in the right colour

Not so many as I'd probably have got at the toy fair, but prices not too bad for those interested

Corgi Transit £4

Corgi Buick £4

Corgi Road Hog, KS Fury & Five Winder thing, £6.

For a man who definitely, obviously, doesn't collect 1/36, that's a good haul!

I have the milk float - in pieces, with the cab resprayed.  Unfortunately the windscreen was broken and they're not available.  I can make one, I just haven't tried yet.  That's because I don't know if I want it to still be a milk float, or become something else, and if so, what?

That, is a Schaper Five Winders.

Pull-back that does different tricks, spins, wheelies etc depending on where you put that gear lever.

And no, I sold all mine already!

Made in Hong Kong for the US market it seems - they fold flat for storage. £15 was a good price - internet seems to sell them circa £80+ mostly.

Worth getting if it's there again - a few here might like that.

New Matchbox 5 packs appearing at Morrisois, just £6.60 each if you have a More Card making them very good value.

Sadly most contain all recycled releases though these two had the most all new recolours in.  No prizes for guessing which set will be attracting the "Ford Tax" on the secondary scalper driven Ebay listing's!

The other parcel contained two SuperKings. The one I really wanted was the green Volvo, seemingly a very hard one to find in good condition. I customised the first one I found and kind of regretted it as I just couldn't find a replacement. This one's been for sale for a little while, until the starting bid was reduced enough to feel comfortable putting a bid in

Tilty seats. Opening tailgate would have been a great feature too I think

Front bumper seems to be permanently in the "impact" position, I'm not going to try and lever it forwards

I can still remember my dad turning up in his 2.0i GLS Sapphire, which replaced his 2.0S Cortina, and being wowed by the space age looking dashboard, think I was about 11

Agreed on the tailgate or even the bonnet.

New one for me. "On her Majesty's Secret Service" Corgi DBS with my "Living Daylights" V8 Vantage at top.

Bought it fairly cheap after once again missing one out on here.

Those wheels make it look (a bit) like the owner has swapped it onto Mondeo Zetec Cossie reps.

I like those wheels, it's nice when they make pacific ones for a model, but those look good on all the SuperKings really. Kinda remind me of Halibrand Sprints

Is it me, or is it a bit quiet in here lately?

No matter, new and exciting things have been collected from the Co-Op. First up, a jiffy bag survivor in the form of this code 2 Model A from White Rose, who seem to have put their name to various Matchbox special editions over the years

The Mrs spotted this on Amazon, with a deal available that brought it down from the somewhat painful £90 To a much more acceptable £40 once various gift cards etc were taken into account
