Just how many of those bloody Roadkill Rotsuns did Hot Wheels make?

IMG_20250916_1336172.jpg.494bdb63ad1abcc6e06c60c98d263311.jpg

Two full pegs, freshly stocked out in The Entertainer since Friday.

Feels like they've been a constant presence in every Hot Wheels stockist for over a year now, although no bugger seems to want them, even at half price.

Where are they all coming from?

They do look absolutely brilliant.
Im still waiting for my blue peasant spec one. But, I’m very tempted to get one of the XR2’s now to use as a base for a Ghia conversion. Only thing is, the wheel arches are wrong for the Ghia, but the bumpers are the right type which the L isn’t!

Got my XR2 as well, sadly its gone in the "put away for Christmas" pile, so I've got a few months to wait till I can have a play with it! The new white version looks ace as well,

I'm thinking thats probably the nearest I'll get to my old white 1.4 S!

Cashed in my Corgi hobby points towards another Vanguards which should be arriving this week. Another Ford, but the colour made it irresistable.

Is it me or do the wheels on those Vanguards XR2s look just a bit odd? They don't seem to capture the pepperpot style quite right in the photos but maybe they're better in the flesh.

That white XR2 (E131 JPA) is based on the one in the Ford heritage collection that has been on display at Gaydon recently.

They're not the best, admittedly. Not enough dish on the rim, and too flat faced, I think. They dld a far better job on the pepperpots on the Mk1 XR2 and Capri 2.8i. Although the ones on Neo's Mk2 weren't the best either and they go for strong money these days.

Came in at about £47 posted. I don't really do Vanguards but this was an exception.

As a rule I don’t really do modern stuff but I’ve been eyeing these up for some time so decided to just get one and be done with it!
Why!? Well, because in my last job at SSE I spent an enormous amount of my working life in one. The first (and my favourite one) was a 60 plate with the earlier front end then that was replaced by a 66 plate the same as this model.
Mine were both basically my office. They were transport to/from job sites every day and they also carried all my tools & equipment and had a workbench etc in the back as a workshop. I towed a big oil tanker trailer with it most days too.
Truthfully, I miss having them! They were great vans and probably one of the best bits of the job as it was ‘your’ van how you wanted it and they made us almost completely self sufficient.
So this one will become my last, 66 plate, one. If I livery it up in SSE livery or not I don’t know (decals not available or easy to make!) but either way it’ll be stripped and painted dark blue as the base vans were.

Thats where I got mine from. Tbh, even at £37 it’s high (imho!) for a single, small car in 1:43 but it’s a cracking little model so I got one.
I’ve found the problem with these is if you don’t get one while you can you’ll pay significantly more later when they’re out of production.

37.99 each plus postage so about 43 quid each delivered. Well worth it. The blue on is my favourite of the 2

That looks excellent! I don't have many road trim C4 Coupes in 1/43 the best is a Norev facelift Loeb, the Bburago version is pretty terrible TBH. all the rest are rally versions. I do have quite a few Nu Ray 1/32 and a few smaller scale Hot Wheels & Majorette which are all very good.

I really want that one, but it's a bit more than I want to pay so I'll have to wait until I've drunk a bit more wine!

Thankyou @AndyW201 for thinking of me and posting it,,,

Looks like stock might be being replenished around these parts. Plenty of old stuff still being restocked, though.

Problem is, in these inflationary times we live in, £37 posted is still towards the bottom end of the price range for 1/43 detailed collector spec models. I suppose Corgi do limit their market a little by producing cars in RHD with British registrations. If they made them in LHD without reg numbers, they'd have a bigger market and could reduce costs by having bigger production runs. They could also drop the metal bases and sprung suspension, but I (and collectors in this country) like them that way, so small production runs it must be.

For a recently launched, much anticipated new Vanguards casting, there are still relatively few on ebay, so yes, it seems likely that they'll get snapped up at the RRP and then Ford tax will kick in, like the sporty versions of the Vanguards Mk1. Already there are two versions of the new red XR2 at £65 and £90, obviously playing the long game there...

Agree with all that!

I think I could live with plastic bases and no suspension if they used that to meaningfully trim the costs for the punters. Although I do like it when you push the suspension on a vanguard’s and it has that lovely springy feel to it, whereas the likes of IXO etc just don’t do anything. They do feel a quality lump in the hand too, whereas some other modern manufacturers products don’t, nice as they are.

I can’t really complain too much about the costs of these, even in this day and age as £38 is actually comparatively little compared to model railway stuff.
I’ve been having a clear out and thin down of mine over the last few months and the prices these things are selling for, even ‘used’ is insane. It’s been some time since I bought any rail stuff new so I think it must’ve shot up in price for some reason over the last few years. Have production costs in China risen or something?? Material costs??

I remember when Vanguards were about £8.99, then £25.00 and now £40 thereabouts!

From time to time, I don't mind paying the price if I get something nice. I've earned it. I am very impressed with the Fiesta. The paintwork is flawless and the interior is much more detailed than I was expecting. The dash is 2 pieces for example, grey for the structure and black for the instrument and accessory binnacle. The badges are spot on as well although on the real car I think they were removed following its quality* blowover. It had 2 tidemarks in its life, one just before it was resprayed and another appeared a couple of years after when it rusted out again 😂 I'm going for the middle era when it was all blue!

I can vaguely remember the early Vanguard’s models, the P4 and Consul Classic & Capri, Mini etc etc being new but I can’t remember the prices of them. That must’ve been the late 90’s? Possibly around 2000?
They were really nice for their time, although weren’t something I ever had. No idea why. You can pick them up for bugger all now.

Vanguard’s have come on a lot since then though, and obviously everything costs an order of magnitude more too! Likewise in the model railway world, back then I was getting a Lima or Hornby locomotive for £25 or £30 but look at the stuff available now! Sure they’re incredible looking highly detailed models with absolutely brilliant motors etc but most are well over the £100 mark.
Even second hand older ones I’m selling for around the £80 - £100 mark.
Everything just really has shot up in price over the last few years.

I did pull the trigger on the XR2 version though earlier! After all that moaning about prices!
Figured it was probably the best time to get one to make my old 1.3 Ghia since I’m not bothered about hot hatches. There’s something unpleasant about the thought of hacking up and stripping a £38 model though😆
Way I see it though is that it’s the only way to get what I’m after so since I don’t smoke, drink much or go out much why not!?
