Shite in Miniature II

That's a brilliant set. One day if I ever have a house/loft big enough, I'd like to display all my favourite 1:64ish scale cars on a huge playlset 'world', all joined together. Especially as, by the time I can afford a bigger house, I'll probably be too decrepit to drive a real car anymore!

Posted

That set is fantastic @Datsuncog

Id have loved that as a kid! How many other sets are there in the current range though? I wonder how big a space they’d all need to build up together?

Posted

I think there are 23 individual sets, not including the US/rest of world Pizza Hut variation. This from Wiki is interesting though:

The Action Drivers playsets are also compatible with Hot Wheels City tracks and playsets

So I suppose you could just go on building almost indefinitely

This however, is just fantastic. Some time ago, I wandered down an internet rabbit hole and discovered that Tins' Toys made a knock-off of the Dinky Volkswagen Deluxe. I never thought I'd find one, but here it is

A quick stop at Tesco brought some recent-ish Matchbox fun.

Cant say I'm mad keen on the Tow Mater styling of current Beemers, but the new 7 series still makes a nice miniature,

Another winner is the recent Holden,

Sadly it looked like they'd just grabbed a handful of the top of the new box and sprinkled them over the old stuff in the rummage box, so no Chevelle sadly. I just took the Kangoo van to make up the 3 for 2 offer. Wish they'd do a Mercedes Shitan version of this,

I'm glad to finally have a Dodge Monaco. THE archetypal police car in so many American films and TV shows of my childhood!

A new one on me, I never knew Matchbox had done a recent version of the Corvette C3. This one looks like an extra from a 1980s Sci fi comedy.

Fancied some market mooching this morning:

IMG_20250711_0935182.jpg.b73c578ebdcc995ff352c1678dc16878.jpg

Millar's stall had a high ratio of Corgi Classics showman's vehicles today, some of which looked to be Code 3 repaints (to my eye, anyway):

IMG_20250711_0935512.jpg.73e8c40ac1629366217999e803ed5c05.jpg

The green Scammell tankers appeared to be brush painted, at any rate - as did the two-tone blue Foden box lorry with 'Waltzer' on the side.

IMG_20250711_0935242.jpg.03852cbf6d73c0dac2c29056c1bdcd13.jpg

Some UK and French Dinky repros - appealing, but pricey enough at £20 for the trucks, £10 for the cars.

Some Oldtimer Gamas were also on offer - bright and cheery little things, but hard to know who these appeal to anymore.

IMG_20250711_0935402.jpg.016ae804883f12acfa9cc14e933fd19c.jpg

Colin's Irish Tat stall was still bustin' with discounted Matchbox Collector's Series, but none that I'm still looking for.

IMG_20250711_0938392.jpg.7fbc4ff2818aae64ac1f7ee35500f937.jpg

He also had some French Dinky repros available, at a tenner a go:

IMG_20250711_0937572.jpg.21e827f29e8f60945578eba110ffddf6.jpg

And a goodly amount of other assorted stuff:

IMG_20250711_0938132.jpg.2d356caae706c4c8d6800e4cff2f73c7.jpg

But alas, nothing to tickle me.

Paddy's stall still had its box of delights:

IMG_20250711_0940012.jpg.84012b40842a024ddfef071f7ec50053.jpg

I quite fancy that XJS HSE - but not at £18.

Another stall which mostly focuses on china, glassware and costume jewellery seems to have gone all-in on the sky-high profits offered by hawking Days Gone:

IMG_20250711_0941502.jpg.141a0bdda947ad03fdb63b8769b21b31.jpg

They had some other bits and bobs too, but nothing cheap and mostly just car-boot grade items:

IMG_20250711_0940382.jpg.1f57037144c535a5e7c88f883e9b08b2.jpg

IMG_20250711_0941202.jpg.bb263dfe5e379fc1c7a56e32afdb4088.jpg

Tempted?

Nope, me neither.

Ah well - still, Happy Friday, everyone!

That red Superkings XJ40 looks in good nik. Although I doubt it was realistically priced given the asking on the XJS.

It wasn't too bad - some light chipping to some of the leading edges, but not exactly a mega bargain at £12.

I bought a mint boxed XJ40 for a tenner a few years back!

It's a really handsome model, for sure.

I had one new when they first came out. It went out in the garden though!😄

No idea what happened to it. Probably fell to bits in the end I expect. Lots of the ones I had out in the garden lost their wheels when the axles rusted through. Probably leaving them outside all year wasn’t a great idea.

Like Dan I had one when they first came out, when the E reg was still current, I was thrilled! I think I swapped it ☹️

So, it was great when the above example came up, I jumped at it. It's got pride of place on my shelves next to an equally MIB BMW 750il. My friend Euan had the latter and I coveted it so again, this one was equally welcome when it cropped up.

That Jaguar, and the BMW, do excellent skids on the lid of a chest freezer.

Strong childhood memory of doing that, and putting my '57 Chevy with the flip front on top of the washing machine to see it vibrate along the top during the spin cycle

I had the Bimmer too. Mine was the Poleizi version. The bonnet was always an absolute swine to open though. No idea where that one went either.

Why pay £9 for a Hot Wheels premium when the likes of MSZ do pretty much the same but for a third less!

A few models have reached completion this week...

L-R: Dinky Triumph Herald, Corgi Rambler Marlin, Atlas Austin J2 police van, Matchbox KS Bedford CF ambulance.

Corgi 1961 Oldsmobile Sheriff car, redecorated for my semi-fictional North Carolina PD.

100_2453.JPG.eda11cb28a183fef5cea5fe239ada30c.JPG

Corgi mk1 Mini, shown with a Dinky Vega Major coach that probably isn't going to get restored.

100_2445.JPG.a5316d697284ce2812cbf2f74b152702.JPG

Hippy camper van!  Now what could it be?

100_2443.JPG.4899967f1bd26e054f08239683c4e463.JPG

Matchbox KS Racing Transporter, that's what!  A few windows here and there, a caravan interior, a few flowery stickers, and Bob's your wealthy uncle.

100_2440.JPG.939755cf840b6871f3fb0b714fde01a3.JPG

Couple of modern HWs that came my way and are now among my Film fleet.  Yellow is Sandra Bullock's car in Speed 2; red KG is for Mike Myers in So I Married An Axe Murderer.

Oh and here's a better look at the CF...

I also picked up a Playmobil ECTO 1 and firehouse with loads of bits, and the Real Ghostbusters ECTO, for a tenner. Mrs and stepdaughter having fun finding all the bits, I just like making the siren work

That’s a blast from the past! I remember my cousin having that Ghostbusters set. It usually got chucked into the toy box with all their other toys though so if we ever played with it, it was a job finding all their other toys bits!

It's not all there, I didn't realise just how many small bits are part of it. To be honest it probably won't stay but people want a tenner just for the Caddy with all the bits missing. I'm just enjoying pressing the buttons and making the cat give me quizzical looks

I don’t think my cousins one was complete either. There were absolutely loads of little bits to it that just broke or went missing. I definitely remember Slimer though!

What have we here then?

With thanks to @danthecapriman for the advice and ideas. I got some Blue Stuff thermoplastic stuff seems to work a treat. Bear in mind this was a quick test with very old Milliput that had some hard bits in.

Also to note I bodged the top intake of the side valve V8 (from the MB 1935 Ford pickup) with some glue and white tack and it's copied the bodge spot on.

The top back carb (from the HW 55 Chevy Gasser) had poked through the Blue Stuff.

Nice job on those👍

Glad I’m not the only one that pushed through the blue stuff though. Easily done when it’s soft.
One other little tip, if you use the Milliput, dip your fingers in water quick then mash it together. The water helps stop it sticking to your fingers, but I found it also softens the putty a bit more and helps it really push into the details in the mould.

It is possible to make 2 part moulds with the blue stuff too.

I'm especially thrilled to find the Jaguar as I know thats a hard one to locate. I got it in Poundland who I believe have had some sort of run on them. The Alfa was only £1.49 from Aldi, I've not seen mainlines at this price for a long time!

Don't know, maybe in the outhouse if I can cobble up a shelf or bracket for it. 12v so can go in a car/caravan but obviously no UHF signal any more. Has got video and audio plugs but doesn't say if they're in or out...

Think they are made by Road Signature. I had to repaint the interior to match the red one. I also lowered it and fitted a set of BMW Touring car wheels.
