Here's the last couple from my auction stuff from last week. I'm not posting the rest up as it is mainly cartoon related stuff or far too gone to be of much interest.

Just a couple of Corgis

Nice old Twhaites Dumper. Pity the inside of the bucket is all scratched up...

and the rear wheels are slightly bent.

WhizzWheels Pony Club Land Rover.

Missing canopy and spare wheel, but unusually has decals on body.

Looks a bit small compared to that Rover Sterling, or did Corgi make thee Sterling too big?

Time to fill up and pick up those ponies.

DSCF6185.thumb.JPG.00f98b0e885a1aa66e592c9e3382c60a.JPG

I suppose the Stirling is in 1/36, but the Land Rover is the old 1/48 casting as I think the 1/36 one had the later wheels with a separate centre.

I believe Van Cleemput said something along the lines of that 1/36 gave the impression of better value at little to no extra cost in design and manufacture much as outlined by @Datsuncog earlier. Obviously I can't find this in the book at the moment, but if I come across it I'll quote it.

I had a quick look in Smyths today, just as their delivery arrived - nothing interesting. Entertainer were having a stock take so they didn't have anything either. I popped into Poundland who had a slightly older mix on the pegs, and the ones that usually disappear first were still present (Cybertruck, Goldbug etc). I had a rummage and found this!

ERTL are a bit of an oddity from a UK perspective, all I ever see is the TV tie in stuff and the odd bit of farm machinery. Whether this Ford van was made as a character car of some sort originally I don't know, but it survived getting stood on this afternoon as it was on the mat in a jiffy bag

There's been slim pickings locally of late, sadly - anywhere with Hot Wheels still just seem to be emptying out yet more older 2024 cases, or else have only a couple of unwanted wheelchair castings dangling forlornly from the pegs.

Home Bargains plainly can't be arsed anymore - two pegs of mostly fantasy and toon'd castings.

IMG_20250122_1336132.thumb.jpg.3d8c068890f2b80958cb3d7b0d9f8f65.jpg

Poundland have plenty of Hot Wheels and Matchbox on the pegs, but they're about six feet off the ground so no kiddies are able to reach them - and therefore turnover is nonexistent.

IMG_20250122_1329083.thumb.jpg.3e4cc6b0ac912df292981d2aa10c4643.jpg

Cobweb city here, kids. These Matchbox are coming up to their second anniversary warming the pegs.

Poundstretcher are still partying like it's 2021 on their end of aisle display:

IMG_20250122_1331192.thumb.jpg.f2eba63efeb1361b1d29e434bd1faaeb.jpg

Ancient Hot Wheels long cards, and short cards from a year or two back - plus some more old Matchbox from 2023 (and earlier) remaining, down in the main toy area.

IMG_20250122_1332292.thumb.jpg.23859d47fcf1b34cdf5e973dee8c8ccb.jpg

Some good castings, but these are all ones I picked up long ago.

Still, at least they're not asking £2.49 for them anymore.

On a mooch around The Entertainer in central Belfast, I was surprised to find they did have some 2025 Matchbox mainlines up for grabs...

IMG_20250117_1320062.thumb.jpg.02d5811b3d18fd1d4517df2b28d81e69.jpg

But I think I've had my fill from this selection already, via Poundland and Tesco - ditto the Germany Collection, and ditto the Working Rigs.

Although, down at the bottom right...

IMG_20250117_1319042.thumb.jpg.46a79314c4b20fd4e6b6c54b9abe2ca3.jpg

Good to see some of the newer Moving Parts appearing, finally - this is the only chain store location I know of that stocks them. Other Entertainer concessions don't, nor do any Sainsbury's branches in NI, for some weird reason.

Mostly moderns, though, and nothing here really took my fancy. I already have the 1950 Chevrolet Suburban with the opening bonnet in National Parks colours, so couldn't get very wanty for this version wearing Fire Department graphics.

Finally, Smyth's seem to have quite a few new Premium twin packs, as well as Team Transports - but they're still a fair whack.

IMG_20250117_1415402.thumb.jpg.a045abd4d7e7920b8d2b540a6e736c8e.jpg

I was a bit tempted by the Mini set, but £18...

IMG_20250117_1415522.thumb.jpg.c1bd2e0fc837d8f1a47dff455ca2f6f9.jpg

...nah, bit too spendy.

Great find, are we starting to see more short card $uper treasure hunts now?

Posted

I’ve stopped looking to be honest, too many wasted trips. They’re not interested in supplying the U.K. end of from what I can see.

Posted

I find HW/MB searching faintly depressing now.

I hope they bring out another one of those 'no way I can't believe they actually made one of these' castings like the MK2 Fiesta or MK2 Escort RS2000.

I seem to be, I don't usually bother looking through the normal Hot Wheels unless they're a mix I've not seen before, but something told me it was worth it today

I hate to burst everyone’s Mattel HATES the UK beliefs but I was in the states last week, and frankly who knows where the desirable ones go - because they weren’t hiding in Target or Wallmart, ‘cos everything is picked over in the Land of the FREE  too.

Who knows where they go!!!

I did strike gold in a random dollar store which came up trumps though, more on that when I’ve unwrapped them.

Agreed. I don’t know why they get to be aligned together, but in any catalogue or at a slot event, they will be…

So it should be:

Slot cars:  HO -> 1:64 -> 1:43 -> 1:32 -> 1:24

Me neither. The £10 collectors Matchbox are a bit salty for what they are as well. But if someone is buying them then there’s obviously a market? Just not tight wad me 🤣

That’s exactly how I see it!

People spend £shitloads every weekend at the pub or smoking and afterwards there’s nothing to show for it. At least spending my money on models gives me something for it which will always be worth something.

It will have a sell on market, but not at £18. The sell on value is probably £1.80, so you might as well have had three pints on the way to buying the milk and bread that you should have got on the way home from work.

Anyone else getting this message when trying to react to a post? I have already posted this in the technical thread, but thought I'd post it here in case anyone wondered why I was not reacting to stuff.

^^ Nothing like that yet, but while doing a search the other day I got a message saying I was doing too many searches, and to wait 3 seconds.

Which was odd.

One for the website issues thread, maybe?
