Went to a toyfair in Kent (as working on the 28th when the excellent Essex Rayleigh ones on) only a little fair and 50/50 trains and vehicles. Good coffee and cake though!

Nice buys!

I reckon that restored Spot-On is a bit of a bargain at £25 to be honest. If you think what a restorable base model costs, then add on all the reproduction parts, then time to strip & paint. £25 isn’t that much!
The box is a really nice touch too.

It looks like Michael Hill went to a lot of trouble to restore those Spot Ons. An interweb search does not find any thing. Maybe he is selling up because you could not do what he has done for £25 if you factor in time and monies spent on paints, boxes and printing.

So you fit in it nicely then Smoll Eddy?

I don’t think they’re worth much at all, but definitely worth detailing it purely from a ‘fun of it’ perspective?

Most of the ones I’ve done similar things with aren’t worth much in money, but I enjoy doing the painting and details as a hobby so worth every minute of it in my eyes. Makes something different too.

Ah but that's a proper 'opening door' Corgi 1970s original casting with jewelled headlamp pairs though, not the 'Ford Pinto jammed doors' version from 1990s with oblong headlamp units that were not on a GXL to start with...

I can understand restoring an original because of the tip forward seats and wind-on-the-arm motoring!

That's the one that was issued with the Century of Cars partwork.  I like how they left the original Cortina  script on the base and boot lid.

Just drill out the headlights and fit some jewels.

I actually prefer non opening doors etc! The opening ones are a pain in the arse when stripping and spraying then reassembly is running the risk of chips & scratching around the edges of the opening thing. They usually look out of scale in my eyes too. But… it is a toy really so it can be forgiven!
I just much prefer the doors, boot, bonnet etc cast or moulded closed.

Here's the Regular Wheels from my auction lot.

DSCF5746.JPG.fbcb6c67cff0e4620e1188dd53bbaf92.JPG

First up is this little ERF Petrol Tanker, the first No.11 in the Matcbox range.

DSCF5747.JPG.b3dee2a66674d88c84fc40c1c925ed12.JPG

According to Matchbox Fandom this red version is from 1957.

DSCF5748.JPG.4ffb38f45445dbb7c6f6a48aa945284c.JPG

Next is this old bus. At first I thought it was a Regular Wheel, but it turns out it is one of the first ever MoY models, No.2 B-Type Bus from 1956. It stayed in the range until 1962.

DSCF5749.JPG.9713d45bc3c767b0e7d2fe563d0ebe93.JPG

Unfortunately it has lost a wheel.

DSCF5750.JPG.683827bcab134cbb82c28454f64e2bd7.JPG

No.16 Scammell 9 Ton Snow Plough, whose ploughing days are over, with a No.21 Foden Concrete Truck. The concrete truck was a kind of Rolamatic, before Rolamatics were invented, with its turning mixer drum.

DSCF5755.JPG.6dbb57a37ed70f55f7a4758e3ece9d89.JPG

Next is the replacement for the Scammell, a No.16 Case Tractor, missing tracks and roof, with a No.39 Ford Tractor.

DSCF5756.JPG.d53393e09ac4b811b8976fd89efbaa33.JPG

A couple of late regular wheels with a No.37 Cattle Truck and a No.10 Pipe Truck.

DSCF5758.JPG.17e1ff8146ec3fba91b86ad842c75068.JPG

Another that went from Regular to Superfast was the No.66 Greyhound Bus.

DSCF5757.JPG.1bcdd39d470b23682dd8ec821a6bef68.JPG

Another No.16, the Super Atlantic Trailer, which was the predecessor to the Scammell Snow Plough.

DSCF5751.JPG.3efec0525463af8d31a30f61580e044a.JPG

It is just the right size for transporting a Rolls Phantom V (No.44)

DSCF5752.JPG.d626fe6db4a371b8ad2d250154112110.JPG

Early model with opening feature from 1964, also has the number plate 1287 PU.

DSCF5754.JPG.d782ed80898732a23fde8331693ad439.JPG

Here's a very flakey No.46 Mercedes 300SE.

DSCF5759.JPG.648d83ea7bc2d066a264bbcd1a375188.JPG

The roof's a bit squashed at the front.

DSCF5760.JPG.ff3cf47e78184e47cc96b93d513eb2f6.JPG

This has the Stuttgart plate S-TT 152.

DSCF5761.JPG.4fd7838581f2eda1ba4c8f4051e2f093.JPG

Finally we have a No.24 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow that looks like it's ready for a spell of banger racing.

DSCF5762.JPG.9a3d93d7e090b52877245d65f5590014.JPG

Missing an A-pillar and three tyres.

DSCF5763.JPG.9ec7ba62be665bd8d92704a518febf2e.JPG

When I looked at the boot, I thought that plate looks familiar.

DSCF5764.JPG.b1de28250d8ec3f8d7a867941e9d08a6.JPG

It is the same as the Superfast Corniche.

27470b.JPG

Then I realised something that Matchbox got wrong when the used the same boot lid on the Corniche as the Shadow, the boot on the Corniche is wrong. It should be like the one on the Polistil and not go all the way down to bumper level.

DSCF3724.JPG.b56c5d2fdfb80b1d5b19437bc5ccfe0b.JPG

Peopel say that cars are getting bigger these days, well it is nothing new. Compare the first Matchbox petrol tanker with one from the 1970s.

Nice purchases!

That Majorette Capri is nice. I’ve got a red one here and always liked Majorette’s effort.
Looks like yours might have even worse handling than the real ones though with that wonky back wheel😄

Got me thinking though, who’s Capri is the best in the smaller scale (1:64ish)? any mk.

Theres the Majorette mk2, Matchbox mk1, Corgi Jr mk3, Corgi Jr/Rockets mk1… any more? Didn’t Summer or Zylmex do a mk3 with the body kit??

Im torn between the Majorette mk2 and Corgi Jr mk1 I think!

I'm going with the Corgi MK3, just. It captures the rakish Capri shape very well in my opinion and has an opening bonnet. The Majorette is arguably more detailed and a fun casting with the orange headlights, badges and vinyl look roof though.

I had the Capri Mk2, at the time of having it there was a knackered one sat outside a pub near us abandoned in the car park.

Zylmex did quite a nice Mk1 Capri too, I had one which came with a toy garage I got for Christmas, along with the Honda Z and Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. I thought the Zylmex captured the Capri's shape better than the Matchbox.

I love the Majorette mk2 though, one of those has been on my want list for a while.

Doesnt seem very common though.
