That's annoying, not a valid UK reg. Some of the 80s onwards cars had non-UK plates, usually in conjunction with LHD

The only post 1986 MB I can think of is the W124 Mercedes D54CDG. A brilliant wee model too.

Volvo 760 was JS 7789

Skoda Estelle was 26351 DC

Corgi did some nice plates on their BP cars, PH1 on the Volvo 760 being an example. The Jaguar XJ6 and Mercedes 190 also had a cast in plate.

Buckled… I’ve always liked this Dinky casting, but I’m sure it was something like £25 when it came out and I was leaving school and way to cool by then! So this kinda happened a few days ago…..

I do keep an eye out for these buses at toyfairs, but these always seem to be optimistically priced unlike normal £5-10 Matchbox era Dinkys. However I spotted a £3.99  ebay auction - where the postage was nearly the same - and I sure did buckle 😆

IMG_8346.jpeg.3bbba27abd0d8a03e2bade99c1e8f6a4.jpeg

It’s a nice weighty model, nicely finished - I never figured out why it didn't appear in various repaints? It’s not as cream as my setting sun photos promise, whiter in the flesh. Chromes on the turn on the luggage rack but I’m sure this is only the 2nd or 3rd time its left the box. The internet says 1:43 or 1:50  scale, I reckon 1:50 is about right?

Might also be nose swap, truck cab, shorty or bus recovery modify-able @danthecapriman  if you want to chop one up for a heady £8!

IMG_8349.jpeg.9bea493f7b1080ebc81f84a81786f55d.jpeg

Anyway needlessly ticked off 30+ years later for the price of two coffees I recommend the odd buckle now and then 😆

D54 CDG was a real plate that was issued to a Volvo 340 (?) Last taxed in 2001.

I think I have that model Mercedes somewhere but I don't remember having one. It wasn't until you pointed it out that I learned that model Mercedes had a number plate!

My MB Jaguar XJ6 only has "Jaguar" cast into the plate:

Post 85 Matchboxes seemed to have generic plates with 4 numbers and 2 letters so weren't of interest to me. Maybe some did have UK plates though.

Others to photograph that I cant recall the exact registration of are:

Mini Racing, articulated lorry with dump trailer, BMC1800 Pininfarina.

I'm the same, after becoming Matchbox International, the UK plate game started to wane

Try this in Google search:

site:cfalkensteiner.com "cast license plate" -"plate: none."

It filters the search using operators.  The Christian Falkensteiner website is comprehensive covering Lesney (1953) through to Super GT (1991)

I found the first number plate on a Lesney casting was 1960, on the No.4 TRIUMPH MOTORCYCLE AND SIDECAR as 637 CMT

Followed in 1961 by No.36 LAMBRETTA & SIDE CAR as 439 ABA

Followed in 1962 by No.66 HARLEY DAVIDSON AND SIDECAR as 241 KMD

The first non-motorcycle was the No.2 (2-c) MIUR HILL DUMPER also for 1962 catalogue

That's exactly what I'm talking about, I didn't like those generic type plates.

Majorettes had smashing little plates up until the 1990s as well. I loved those. Most were the correct font too.

The BMW 850 plate could almost be a UK reg, but not quite

Think that plate changed when they started selling it as the Rabbit in the USA, became FLT 878 - which could be from either side of the pond

Is this the only reg shared by two different castings (technically)?

I've had a couple of BVs; from memory it came from Blackburn or Burnley.  TB is a Lancashire County combination, I've had some of those too.

😳 I thought it was KCF for at least 40 years but there it is right enough.

My whole childhood feels like it's been a lie now 😂

Also, in terms of CF vs GF:

427021372_535044887.jpg.ea82ab438ef40cd003bd6287d358f99e.jpg

KGF 17W rather than CF. Its the best image I could find.

Although "GF" was indeed an allocation to South West London, it seems that anything with CF was changed to GF and found not to be allocated to anything.
