There’s all sorts of wheels and other bits.
Pretty sure they do them for their own kit range but also offer them as separate parts.

I looked at those on eBay before, finish looked a bit rough in their images so I didn't buy any

I have a set of those in one of my spares tins. I got them to do a Wood and Pickett Mini, but the size is too big. They are around 9mm from rim edge to rim edge, so they are a sort of 13" to 14" size in 1/43rd. I've had them for about 10 years and one of teh tyres has split.

I should clean one up and take it to a 3d printers and get them to scan them and reduced the size.

The tyres are a bit questionable quality wise. I got a set of Ford dartboard steel wheels for one of my Capri’s from them and one tyre split like that on one of those. It’s like the rubber suddenly shrinks when it’s on the wheel and splits in half. They look ok though, until they split!

Vantastic lurking in one of the annoying charity shop bags, far too tatty to be worth buying though

Here’s another one I’ve had on the bench.

All the talk of the Corgi Cortina GXL a while back inspired me to get one out and have a go at it.

This one began life as a police car version. Then somewhere along the way someone decided to break out the red Humbrol and create a fire chief car out of it! It looked a right mess, but it was basically sound under all the old paint.

IMG_5970.jpeg.62a2c6ff8c1bceb7a0bb24be165db526.jpeg

After paint stripper, it came up well. Corgi did a nice job on these, with the cast details like the grill, badges and that cool vinyl roof join down each side of the roof.

IMG_5996.jpeg.7da1c7a6953efbe82e823adb1d76ed9e.jpeg

I’ve done a custom job on this one, but tried not to go overboard on it as I still want it to look like the original Corgi toy, just a bit more unique.
I painted it in purple velvet metallic, black vinyl roof with the holes filled in, repainted the interior black to match, new glazing (which doesn’t fit as well as the original part!), chrome on bumpers reapplied, then treated it to some fancy wheels!
It’s loosely assembled in the pic hence why the base isn’t fitted in properly!

IMG_6280.jpeg.68973ddd66637402939f100305abe4f3.jpeg

It’s almost finished now but I’m just waiting for some replacement headlights as I broke a couple taking them out.
Obviously the Vanguard’s mk3 is a mile better, being a more modern finer casting but these old Corgi ones still do look great.

The Corgi model is a odd one. A two door GXL. Something I never recall seeing on the road.

I thought that too! 2 doors were usually GT’s or low spec cars. GXL was used on the top end 4 doors. They knew what they were doing!😄

Bought this Little 3d printed two post ramp today.

Smoll Eddy quickly put it to work to do an oil change on this Corolla.

Yes they did 2 Dr gxls one  features prominently in the advertising & is what the rare yellow corgi one is based on, few survive the rarest is a 1.6 2d GXL ( especially if it's ohv), 4 Dr GT 's were available too (I'm restoring on at the moment for someone) , facelift 2dr GT 's are rare too.

No 2dr 2000 E's were ever made, 3 black rhd 2 Dr 1600E's were made for ford executives I believe 2 survive.

As 2 Dr versions were only avl on the continent ( I think it's in the region of 4500 were made).

For the last 9 months or so Mrs Concern has been working on an OO guage (1/72) model of the tram in the film Meet Me In St Louis starring Judy Garland. She started with a Corgi tram and modified it as the one on set was unlike any real tram, having both staircases at the same end! She remade most of it several times and then used lots of different make figures that she cut up and re positioned to represent the actors in all the correct costumes and positions. She has worked hard and spent a fortune, but I think it was worth it!

This is all she had to work with

Red Superfast Mustang! Nice haul there, I never think to check anywhere other than eBay

I went to the Aldridge Transport Museum today and found a some stalls that were selling toy and model cars. I said I'd try and resist, but resistance was futile. My haul;

20241020_160635.jpg.585a85b74d085603b6611816f7d2c840.jpg

From left to right; 1.43 Mini by Hongwell, 1.43 "Morse" Jag, this Jag is the same one that I spotted at a Belgian car boot but couldn't buy because I'd forgotten my money. There was one on display at the Museum for £2 but it was also slightly damaged, this one was less slightly damaged but no plinth.

Next, Matchbox Superfast Ford Model A. Now, these don't usually interest me at all. But there is a picture of me sitting with great grandma and holding one of these and I'm pretty sure it was a "Champion Spark Plugs" logo's one so I bought it out of nostalgia.

1.43 Majorette Fiat Multipla, why not?

Yellow Kangoo, I already have a van-version of this, so why not a people carrier version?

Majorette Ford Thunderbird and lastly a Husky NSU RO80.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again… one of the best looking saloon cars ever! (And estates!)

Posted

I've only had one mk3 Cortina, but oh boy it was a spec!  1972L four door 2000GT, ex-Lancashire police, in Daytona Yellow.  Cost me £40 in 1985 and when I sold it on a few weeks later, having reached the end of the MoT and tax, I got my money back.  You can't buy a Vanguards one for that now....

Posted

I've only had one Cortina, a Mk2 1600E. It was a step up from the VW Beetles I was used to, but it was an old rusty piece of junk that cost £240. I ran it for about 6 months and just about everything that could go wrong went wrong, including the gearbox and rear axle.

My only other experience of a Cortina was my fathers MK5 Carousel 1.6 Auto. A comfortable enough car, but when compared to the Alfa Romeo Giulietta 2.0 I had at the time, it was stogey slow dull saloon.

The Mk3 is a good looking car for it's time, but it's not something I would put on my drive. However I do from time to time think about having another 1600E, but the prices asked for them you might as well save up a bit more and go for a Lotus one, in Jade Green.

Posted

I remember reading a book as a kid called Katys Kit Car, where this lass and her father transformed a Mk3 into a ghastly Dutton Melos. I like the Mk3, very of its time, I’m sure they were probably no worse than any other car at the time.
