Anyone know what these were actually used for?

They were used, according to this picture, as a mobile control unit and office. Note this pic shows the big flag pole that the later liveried truck has. No extra side repeaters though.

Here's a shot of the one in the painting

One also appears in this old film that was shown on TPTV a couple of weeks ago

Which was later restyled into the Tiger Shark, although I can't find a picture of anything but model kits...

It was shown at the 1967 Detroit Autorama

Hot Wheels redline Python I got the other day. It wasn't in bad shape for 50+ years old

But I thought I could tidy it up a bit.

20231019_162628.thumb.jpg.9c68bf274c76db3e4edbca591b70a4be.jpg20231019_162619.thumb.jpg.b0b4da54621f846c9b646870de08d500.jpg20231019_162635.thumb.jpg.de71fb8b9c681791721eb1495d4dd769.jpg

Sunshine failed to appear in the later pics, but I used some clear red Humbrol on the worst of the chips, black paint pen on the roof and a bit of Molotow on the wheels and engine.

As ever the pics don't make it look its best, but it's quite a pleasing difference

The Python was supposed to be called Cheetah but the name was changed prior to the launch of Hot Wheels, you can see on the base where the change was made. Find one that still has Cheetah on it and retire early! Maybe

Leon had a look at his

WP_20231021_13_55_40_Rich.jpg.2366d0652440963859cf1172541fd665.jpg

Sadly it is stamped Python not Cheetah

Now he feels Cheeted.

Well, at least he does have his service pension to fall back on.

Think someone asked for one of these Fat and Fabulous 240Zs the last time I found them in BuM - just restocked so I have a spare @Spottedlaurel possibly?

I can't remember if I asked for one, but yes please if you have one spare.

You know the unpainted roof version is a bit of a rarity?

Has it got an R or a TM after the Hot Wheels text on the base, and do the four exhausts stick out of the body or are they flush?

Thought so, just checking. 😁 Grabbed the T3 anyway as I like it. Some other quality Majorette purchases were made too. Pics to follow.

'Irish Decal Products Ltd.' Well, alright.

Of course, I couldn't let it lie

Went off to find out more

61060DiecastIrishMiniCooperWithTricolour

Love this!  And I'm not even remotely Éireannach

https://www.irishdecalproducts.com/collections/die-cast-models/products/61060-diecast-model-irish-mini-cooper-with-tri-colour-roof

€12.95 direct.  But they want another €10.00 to send it over the water.  Which means CogBox™ the best VALU route.

@MiniMinorMk3 Will probably hate it though, because roof flagness.

For a while now I’ve been renovating My Corgi GS 37 Lotus Racing Team. I also bought two Elans to replace the originals, but decided to keep them and improve the look.  I think I showed the new screen fitted to the Green DHC. The biggest problem was the bottom of the screen frame on the yellow FHC was missing.

IMG_7936.thumb.JPG.26794f745ab1a78d03637fc2820569f9.JPG

IMG_7937.thumb.JPG.de8bb227f06f3965792cd77fb682399e.JPG

I used a bit of soft iron wire to fashion it, used Araldite to glue it in, then some filler and a fair bit of filing got a pretty good fit.

IMG_7938.thumb.JPG.f62c631db3d67672d684663478b87683.JPG

Dark green Humbrol finished it off to a standard I am happy with.

I didn’t bother taking pics of the work on the Climax or VW.

The Climax had lost the steering wheel/mirrors fitting and the driver had been coloured in with Biro. When removing the screen, I dropped it and promptly stood on it! Doh! I got Steve Flowers repros which fit ok after fettling. The driver I had to repaint as wiping with cellulose thinners just made him go purple all over!

The VW was pretty dirty and had been taken apart by the young me to replace the tyre on the winch. This had fallen to bits as well so had to come apart again. Also the winch casting had corroded enough that I got spare truck to replace it, but it wasn’t needed as some wire wool and elbow grease fixed that!

IMG_7963.thumb.JPG.e88346c647d5bcd7e77e7ae77c16554f.JPG

I printed a picture of the top of the box out and stuck it on a corn flakes box, not bad for a few minutes work.

IDENTIFY THAT PART SUNDAY

Spotted on eBay.  The majority are for the same model.  However, some rogue parts have crept into the bag of bits before it arrived here

IMG_20231017_134459.thumb.jpg.a59741b4fc8750a3a8a5838efe0c10a2.jpg

So what do we have?

Posted

Clearly it's meant to be a scrapyard bulk-lot of Tekno Mercedes SLs.  The only part that immediately jars for me is the blue bonnet, bottom right, which obviously belongs to a saloon of a similar era.  Bootlids?  They may or may not all be SL, I wouldn't be sure just from a photo, but there isn't one that seems to fit with the odd bonnet.  I'd be having a trial-fitting session to see exactly what I had!

I’ve about got to the limit of what I can do with the two vans now. Until I can get my tools, filler & paints out after moving I’m a bit stuck.

Shells are both in primer for now, and actually look pretty good.
Transit is actually pretty good despite its appearance before stripping it! Just need to get a tailgate and glazing.
Commer might need a dab of glue on the centre screen pillar as it’s cracked. There’s also a crack on one rear corner near the door hinge. Nothing serious and easily fixed.

IMG_2713.thumb.jpeg.0f3314d4636c7de284dcec05bc2dcb98.jpeg

IMG_2714.thumb.jpeg.37067c8d6e82c03b214294b77b7f7a54.jpeg

I’ve loosely reassembled the Transit so I know where all the bits are. Loose bits like headlight jewels are taped to the chassis inside. These will be getting wrapped in bubble wrap and boxed up for the time being.

IMG_2721.thumb.jpeg.8c287ace0ad4aff7cc4dbeb06d472b80.jpeg

The next victims for the paint stripper are ready though!

IMG_2715.thumb.jpeg.f6a6a47a5001c369c0a8672446130fd3.jpeg

Austin will be losing the stupid driving school bits and become a normal saloon which Corgi should’ve done themselves.
Volvo is just a strip and repaint. Probably into Volvo green blue metallic. Which I’ve conveniently got a can of from my 1:1 scale 740.

Well, with the recent sparseness of small (HW and MB) diecasts in my area, I was intending to wean myself off these and use the money saved on 1/43 stuff which is still my collecting preference and at least I can find the stuff I want quite readily and don't have to waste miles, fuel and time on a weekend.

That has all gone right down the shitpan this weekend and it's mostly the fault of you bloody lot on here!

Seeing the many purchases folk have made in TK Maxx recently reminded me that one has recently opened in a new small retail park near me. The big one in the town centre that closed down was never up to much, diecast wise, so I thought we'd have a look in the new one on the pretence of now-teenage daughter looking for cheap designer clobber and cosmetics...

Majorette have always been a fave of mine. I always had loads as a kid, the attraction being that they modelled normal, everyday stuff. This was rekindled a few years ago when Morrisons suddenly started doing them, along with Home Bargains, doing fairly mundane subjects like Clios, Meganes, small Audis, Opel Adams & Corsas etc. So after other folk's recent purchases, I went hunting. There wasn't a massive amount, but still,

IMG_20231022_120506.thumb.jpg.bf99890fde0836fe17ecf6ab8852219a.jpg

Boom!

IMG_20231022_120517.thumb.jpg.d31122b42a7669391ad7d0deee0b01c3.jpg

Yeah, a dull modern hatch to most of us on here, but I've wanted one of these i30Ns for yonks, to the point of almost spunking a tenner on a 5 pack in Asda with one in. Almost.

IMG_20231022_120533.thumb.jpg.3ca139c3808c8ddc89421187a84bb109.jpg

I've always liked 'unlikely sporty' cars from manufacturers you wouldn't expect them from, which is why I loved the original Octavia VRS. The Hyundai falls in that category for me. It's a nicely detailed thing, I think it was datsuncog who said that current Majorettes absolutely knock stuff like current Sikus out of the park, and I agree. I'd even say that apart from the lack of rubber tyres and metal base, they're a match for Hot Wheels premiums. It's a shame I've not been able to get the original light blue release as it's more of a typical i30N colour, but this one will more than do!

I do like a T3 camper, so grabbed this. The sliding door is a nice touch and has a decent, if basic, rendering of a camper interior.

IMG_20231022_120814.thumb.jpg.a96fd27f874d97e423fe9b95df19b11f.jpg

Again, I'd have preferred the black 911 Carrera, but I do like this Porker. I love the 1976-vintage livery on it,

IMG_20231022_121012.thumb.jpg.b8593366604a53de58171abe4aa148fb.jpg

IMG_20231022_120945.thumb.jpg.cc883787ee6aad4d8dfb6f6a4995da7d.jpg

But the big find for me was this,

IMG_20231022_121114.thumb.jpg.9bdee1d73ce8dada11bcb93f5b8752fa.jpg

Fucking Yes!!!

IMG_20231022_121125.thumb.jpg.4ef8b225d62704d0bea535df52d91f09.jpg

Another one I've wanted for ages and never thought I'd get hold of, especially for £2.99.

IMG_20231022_132424.thumb.jpg.1526293d1a44c6853ae9f226c3d87f78.jpg

It's a wonderful little casting. Being an ageing ex-boy racer who should know better, I also actually like the lairy paint and inappropriate wheels.

IMG_20231022_121217.thumb.jpg.fb62761038ce972e0f12a72ca3f66c97.jpg

So we hopped back in the car with me filled with the usual mixture of elation and buyer's regret. But we had the big food shop to get now, and first stop was Aldi...
