Shite in Miniature II

Some recent findings. Husky VW is incomplete but otherwise quite good. Had no idea that Majorette had done a model of the BX 4TC,  probably the worst group B rally car ever. Also really glad that I finally found a better Toyota Corolla AE86. My old one is quite rough.

@bunglebus that’s  your trailer!

I could swear I have this set, loose and I've posted it on here - is there a similar setup made by another company?

Maybe it's this and I'm really losing the plot

Saico Minor

1/32?

Saico Minors are nearer 1:26

I have a few, but all of them have bits missing as they shed parts like a Polistil on a Hooters bar

So I'll likely grab those come saletime

Government department that looks after infrastructure, in this case road and waterways, looking at the inset drawing of a stone pont

I've been reading up a bit more about the big Dinky Mercedes LP 1920 truck and now realise there were 2 versions.

In the 20 or so years I went to swapmeets, the below version was almost omnipresent:

s-l1200.thumb.webp.5fbf11b5b15692b369f9fdd4f4f530d2.webp

..and it always almost appealed to me but not enough to buy it.

But when this one appeared at St Georges:

20230811_141225.thumb.jpg.fcabc15f7c97b89a6dd6841e1a062f90.jpg

It really appealed and I was apprehensive about why my mine had been changed.

A closer view of a slightly more spruce example:

s-l1600.thumb.jpg.156af0d42ec42c10bf476f46f648bb47.jpg

..reveals that the one I had been avoiding doesn't have a lot of charm, because Dinky went full-on 'Project Drive' with it.

Gone were the opening (and trimmed) cab doors, separate grille, jewelled headlights and spring suspension (not to mention the drag trailer) and simpler wheels.

The white example came in the late Dinky window box whereas the earlier blue example came in a card box with traditional illustrations.

Can anyone else think of other models that went the same way?

Saw a police saloon with no missing bits today,  £2.00

I'd forgotten what was in it!  Some have gone in my Projects box, some immediately on display.  There's just enough work involved to keep me amused.  Thanks Max!

Superkings lorries £6 each

That’s very cheap for a complete bridge maker.
Edit: it’s not complete, it’s missing the pillars and the centre section. In fairness it would be £50 if it had those

Matchbox MB46 Mercedes 300SE, started off with opening doors and boot, then dropped to opening boot then dropped again to a solid casting with just the standard 80’s wheels on it as the Tesco only silver one. I have one somewhere.

MB Lotus Europa; along with others found its doors closed up as the Superfast era "progressed," and finally became a Super GT with nothing opening and opaque windows so it didn't even need an interior.  See also Iso Grifo, Ford Capri.

The Mini Manifique is perhaps the best example, going from an intricate feature-packed little toy to a solid casting on Whizzwheels in the space of about 7 years.

Dinky Rolls Royce Phantom V started out with 4 opening doors, plus the boot & a 2 piece bonnet.Later versions had just the front doors & boot opening.

The Scania Esso tanker on the end is one of the ones from the promo years ago where you collected tokens from each fill up of fuel then cashed them in for various prizes. The Scania was the one I chose!

The Magnifique still had opening doors, bonnet and boot when it changed to the 282 model (white car centre front). The only thing it lost was the sunroof.

Also in the picture is a late Dinky Mini Clubman. These started life with jewelled headlamps and silvered wheel centres.

Perhaps you are thinking of the Orange Mini Minor, which was a progression of the original Mini Minor that started out as light blue, then was metallic maroon, and finally in whizzwheels ear, bright orange.

The last of the original castings to be used was the yellow Monte Mini...

In 1976 Corgi the introduced the 1/36th scale model with numbers 200 and 201.

This has been modified over the years and there have probably a lot more than the actual cars production of the years.

That's alright - I completely forgot, again, so I'm quite pleased it's been moved through necessity.

It's an ill wind, etc...

Box art changed on some Dinkys.

Early version of the Mini Minor Automatic. This also came with a leaflet explaining the auto box.

DSCF9004.thumb.JPG.c6433512ed8cfe20f3e503e8e303aa00.JPG

But on the metallic version the box art is simpler and no leaflet.

Originally the police version of this Mini had a smoothed off boot area with a decal...

DSCF1195.thumb.JPG.642fa40cce370f9e25b454aa4dfae54f.JPG

but the later version had cast detail. It had lost the aerial and number plate stickers though.

Not much change at the front.

There are Automatic Police Minis out there as well.

I remember Junkman explaining how Norev downgraded castings like the R4, which had a separate number plate on the earlier bendy ones (google pics)

s-l1600.jpg

to then incorporating it to the moulding...
