I've got that one, I seem to recall it's based on a French Dinky. Excellent model, no wonder Dinky went bust as its packed with features. The frame less doors are especially nice.

See Corgi in the early 70’s, they would have loads of detail and separate bits for the chrome round the windows etc.

I have one of those trailers available, if anyone needs one to complete a rig.

I think all mine are matched up now, it all started with this overpainted one which doesn't have a name on the base

Eventually others came along which were a bit easier to ID!

I'm still not sure if some are copies or if Marx changed the casting to remove their name for some reason, but there are casting differences especially on the cab roof, and slightly different wheels

Shameful confession: I bought one the other day and tore the box open like a kid outside the shop 🤣 it was very therapeutic! It’s a cracking toy too!

I'm definitely not buying them just to nab the wheels...

One from the Friday finds, presented here for your delectation:

128819413_IMG_20230808_1417062.thumb.jpg.b76f3e01c8723d910bfe0dea9c377ebe.jpg

It's a No.22 Lesney Vauxhall Cresta E.

Introduced into the Matchbox lineup in 1956, this was a significant addition - as it was the first time a saloon car had been modelled for the range.

570918240_IMG_20230808_1417232.thumb.jpg.f9c670123e8999424263734cd671296e.jpg

Although 'Matchbox car' is now such a ubiquitous term, it's hard to believe that for its first three years, Lesney's range consisted only of commercial vehicles and plant machinery.

420411446_IMG_20230808_1417552.thumb.jpg.a71fdf74b8db693b288f8581bde9ab33.jpg

But in 1956, the No.19 MG Sports Car and No.22 Vauxhall Cresta put in an appearance, alongside the No.23 Berkeley Cavalier Caravan - which presumably the Cresta's towbar was designed to pull. The No.30 Ford Prefect completed the new-for-'56 range of cars - and they must have been successful, as a futher six new cars were subsequently introduced for the 1957 releases.

In all honesty, it's a slightly odd shape - the roofline looks a little high and slightly cartoonish, but then I guess this was new territory in a way - it's hard to tell whether the proportions of a Euclid quarry dump truck are spot-on as few people will have encountered one in real life, but slightly easier to spot when a passenger car's a bit off.

Unusually, there's not much information on the baseplate:

This Cresta E only stayed in the range for a short two catalogue years, before its replacement by the new No.22 Cresta PA in 1958. It only appeared in the one colour scheme, although some roof colours are more white than the cream shown here.

Bitta history, innit?

Not just based, it is French factory through and through. Dinky UK never carried it.  Same with the Thunderbird

I never knew that! Interesting bit of history.

Ive got one of those in my collection, along with the PA Cresta in a copper colour. I think @sierraman had one off me in my last sale? Pretty sure it was a repaint in green?

Phoar, bargain!

Limited Edition too - hope you grabbed it quick before some other eagle-eyed antiques expert* did!

On a less facetious note, glad everything arrived with you safe 'n' sound! I thought the glazing on the Gama 1302 would be a straightforward enough fix - looks much better now.

Kinda undecided about the Crazy Roadsters too, but it was either leave 'em up there in the dark or pass them on to one of the fine folks on here - feel free to sell or trade them for something less weird!

I have three spare Autozam AZ-1s and a green TT. Mrs is going into Chelmsford tomorrow so hopefully she'll find more

Ooh, Mazda, one or potentially both MR2s and that Honda would be of interest if they're available. Also a grey LS400 if you find one (all assuming I don't see a glut of them tomorrow).

Only got the Autozam spare for now but I'll keep hunting (might ask if all the Matchbox are in the pegs in Derby too)
