Peugeot 203 shape would be a great custom though

This brought to mind the lowrider in a 1980s issue of Street Machine. Doing a search for that revealed that someone has made a rather nice replica with the Heller 1/43 kit: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/127732-peugeot-203-lowrider/

Been lucky to see one or 203s on this year's French travels, they always strike me as bigger than expected.

Some later Land rovers from Corgi

First up is a Corgi Drive Time Defender County. Drive Time being on of those attempts by Corgi to create another Vanguards Collection. It even has a VA***** product number.

I've been driving in my car
It's not quite a Jaguar
I bought it in Primrose Hill
From a bloke from Brazil

It was made in fifty-nine
In a factory by the Tyne
It says Morris on the door
An Ebayer owned it before

The governor calls me a slob
But I don't really care

Derby toy shop have had a bit of a restock

20230803_125321.thumb.jpg.3401acd50c569277a34881ae73948075.jpg20230803_124940.thumb.jpg.32a84cc54333994891b648b5747976cb.jpg

I asked about a certain car only to he told he'd nabbed it himself that morning!

Bought a few bits, just walking away from the shop and the bloke caught me up having found another one hiding out the back...

Entertainer have lots of L cases but fairly rummaged through

Got this out of Entertainer - anyone know why?

It's reversed into the box!

Some very nice Premiums there - well found! The Torana's an unusual car to model, while the look Merc and Volvo look really good with the extra detailing.

Oh and talking to the guy in the toy shop and asking him about the chase cars that should be in with the premium Hot Wheels, he said they're gone before they even reach the shop, he reckons the warehouse take them out and put them on eBay. What hope is there of us collectors finding one?

I've seen some of the fancier Hot Wheels in Smyths, but it seems to be mostly the supercar stuff.

2082356197_IMG_20230722_1043412.thumb.jpg.a49b0c2564818b6e936413c247f83fa6.jpg

The pegs are all really crammed and everything's all mixed up, so it's hard to see what's what without everything falling off on the floor.

I did like the wee Giulia quite a lot, it has to be said.

The Entertainer seems to occasionally have some Premium/ Semi-Premium stuff, but I haven't seen any in my local branch lately.

Sainsbury's here only seems to have the occasional Hot Wheels mainline, though I did notice yesterday that they had some nine-packs too - no shelf price visible, though.

The only Matchbox fancy stuff round these parts has been grey import Moving Parts and Working Rigs in discount stores, plus some imported Superfast stuff in the Smithfield Model Shop at big money prices (and the prices written on the packaging in permanent marker, which annoys me more than it should).

Ooh, will have to look out for more of those Collectors range before I come home on Sunday - the Datsun and Dodge look particularly appealing. Just found there's an E. LeClerc near where we're staying tonight, and they were where I found the little Honda truck and 1960s Plymouth Fury  the other day. From memory they were less than £9.99 too.

They're not just any old Matchbox though. The premiums and collectors etc series are aimed at adults with more money than sense.  Because collectors.

They would be better off marketing with a new premium brand.  Not unlike luxury Toyota becoming Lexus in some markets that had a hang-up about expensively-priced Toyotas.

What am I saying!  £9.99 is loads of money.  Did @bunglebus really spend £50 today?  He is the gold star collector winner!

Matchbox Central these days seems to be Connecticut?  I've noticed this before, it seems many events are up in the North Eastern provinces, whereas Hot Wheels Central is El Segundo on the other coast entirely

Not quite, some were £8.99 for some reason. You only live once, I'm not much of a drinker, don't smoke and have 0 debt so that's small change in the grand scheme of things. I used to spend that on a night out 20 years ago

So does any one know how many of these "Matchbox Collectors Series" models they make? Is it 100, is it 1,000, is it 10,000? These are in no way an investment. After the initial excitement has died down these will become available for less than what some lucky warehouse workers are getting on Ebay today.

And if you are prepared to wait a few years, you will probably be able to pick these up for about £2 each when they come up as big lots at Vectis or some other toy auction.

Anything marketed as collectible will be anything but an investment. Historically the things that have ended up being crazy money in the future are common or garden stuff that ends up getting played with and the packaging chucked away. Look at the prices of boxed 70’s Superfast Drag Racing sets for an idea. They marketed the Dinky collection as being ‘getting in at the bottom’  but you couldn’t give them away now. Tens of thousands were made and 99% of them survived in old giffers flats. 😂

Well we can't have one

Because they sold out

https://creations.mattel.com/products/matchbox-1975-mitsubishi-lancer-celeste-hlj79

(Apparently)

Like 'Mattel Creations', these are 'Matchbox Collectors' as well.  No idea why range not named 'Matchbox Creations' instead, as it's confusing.

Nipped into Morrisons before work to get supplies for today's trip.

Oddly, all those Matchbox singles that appeared a few weeks ago have disappeared from the shelf. They surely can't have sold out.  The local B&Ms have had  the same mix in since the beginning of the year and looks like they are going to have them forever. Not many of the 5 packs in either so it looks like the marriage between the local Morrisons and Matchbox may be over already.

Piss-poor show on the Hot Wheels too, only the fantasy shite from the last lot of H case in now, can't be long till they have a restock. Of more G and H case probably... There were a few new 5 packs in though, normally I dont bother as I only end up liking 1 or 2 cars in them. But towards the back, I saw one on its own, with Nissan written on it, and it turned out that for once, I liked every car in it! So, seeing as I havent got many single releases lately (chance would be a fine thing), I got it. So it's another edition of Thursday's Thunderously Tedious Tacho-break Tat, coming to you from an ominously cloudy layby on the A9 near Aviemore...

TBH I probably would have got this pack just for the purple 2000GT X.

What a belter, it's one of my favourite castings, and looks lovely in this colour.
