Is there any trace of metallic (see below) or non metallic orange paint under the gold?

If not then that Mini could be a very rare colour trial.

Those Minis also had a pink and in some cases yellow undercoat from the factory. Don’t know why they did this as most Matchbox didn’t have a primer coat.

I have an orange one that looks like it has a case of bad lacquer peel and looks to have pink under that. Look at the edges of the paint chips. None of the metallic ones I have seem to have under coat

I’ll see if I can wipe off some of the gold. I doubt it’s a rare one but you never know!

Look inside the model with a bright torch, that's the best way to find the original colour.

Good idea!

Just looked and it’s the Copper/orange metallic colour. The good thing is the shitty gold repaint does chip off dead easily so it might even survive just stripping the gold (probably Humbrol!) off.

Most of the rest are suitable for parts, wheels, restoration, making a scrapyard or whatever!

Well worth posting them up here!

Referring to @MiniMinorMk3s earlier post about Cortinas,  here are a couple that I don't think appear:

And my favourite second only to the Superfast MK4 is this Mira MK5/Taunus

Found a handful of others up for grabs from a previous bulk buy if anyone wants them cheap.

TADS. Pretty much every playworn example you find has them missing, and annoyingly they changed the design so the ones off the later, silver version don't fit.

You can get white metal replacements but I find parts like that far too soft and easily damaged

There are two base types to find though, I think this is the rarer version with the interior cast in

Matchbox 34 Volkswagen Caravette

And the version where it's riveted to the base

Matchbox 34 Volkswagen Caravette

As you can see there are also several types of wheel used, even the side doors (if you've got 'em) change over the production run

Lots of the blue ones have passed through my hands including this bestickered one

Plus I have a purple version and the orange Fire Bug

The purple one should have been part of a set pulling a sailboat.

I have the blue one in the box but 50 years has seen it fade somewhat.

That one of mine is the type with cast-in interior. The lump of roof above the doors has been broken out with the doors! Pity!

Hey, glad they showed up safely! I'd posted them last week but thought it might take a little longer than usual to arrive, with things being as they are... Cheers for letting me know - enjoy!

A few weeks back I asked about Bulgarian Matchbox on here.

Well, the reason:

I got myself a Bulgarian Mk2 Capri in a weird dark blue colour the uk ones didn’t come in. I think Matchbox missed a trick really not releasing more/better colours for some of their uk range.

Yep! It’s identical in every way to my uk made Capri. Literally the only difference is the colour and it says Bulgaria on the base.

Google fu indicates that the Datsun 240Z was also available in chrome gold which a few ofnthe Superfast cars seemed to appear in.

Supposedly Matchbox lent the tooling to Mikro ‘67 during the early 80’s, presumably round the time they were clearing out the Hackney Wick factory. But then it never got returned so they’ve been produced on/off for many years. I suppose it made sense at the time as in 1982 they were raiding the coffers for whatever they could get to keep the business afloat.

Just had a quick search on Vectis. This is all the Bulgarian Superkings they have had in the last 16 years.

Yesterday it was Fords, in the interests of balance here's some Opel/Vauxhalls. All these are by Schuco, but three are dealership issues.

I've got the Vectra, I bought it because it was unusual un being a saloon and in one of those metallic colours that seemed to be very popular on cars in the early 00s. I also have the Insignia. It's a really nice model, I recall mine was quite expensive at around £40.

Posted

They are typical of curb-side 1/43rd models that are produced these days. Good detailing both inside and out.

I would have got mine at auction as part of a lot.
