Those Heller 1/43rd kits are great. They did loads of 1970s stuff.

Indeed. I finished this Princess a couple of years ago:

1:43 Heller Austin Princess kit

Always hope to stumble across somewhere in France with a stash of them, even just a modern toy shop, but it hasn't happened yet. Will make more effort during 2023's holiday.

Anyone got a Marklin or Shuco?

It seem Schuco went all out on the model, I think I'm right in producing at three scales:  1:66 die-cast, 1:43 die-cast, 1:43 plastic with wind-up motor, 1:16 plastic model kit with battery-powered motor, 1:16 plastic and remote-control.

That's what Farmer Tom was driving.  I assumed there would have been more than two program 'cogs', perhaps not.  Long gone anyhow.  But it does work.  Would demonstrate, but it would only be driving in anti-clockwise circles, so not very interesting.

I don't recognise the 'T' brand logo on that box

Either way, Tom paid under £7 for it, not the near £100 that seller wants!

Anyone got a Mercury?

I started the discussion with a mercury

I can not find any 1/43 Schucos yet, but it appears the 1/16th scale was available as a kit and a ready built.

One of Foxdenton's has arrived...

WP_20221224_18_04_25_Rich.thumb.jpg.d34fc3f7b09388d333b4879453f51351.jpg

Accompanied by a C111 made by Exin in Spain and sold as part of the Scalextric catalogue 1972-73

Ok, it's a toy, scaling is all over the place but it does have the correct three tailpipes for the three-rotor Wankel !

Due to being sold in the UK for just year, they are scarce and quite valuable.  Managed to get this one a few years back reasonably* cheaply as it had a faulty motor.  There is some age-related twist to the chassis though.

While on the slot-car subject, Carrera (Germany) listed this much better effort throughout 1970s.  It's also at 1:32 and 12v.

Märklin also had a go in the 1970s at 1:32 and 12v

Tyco attempted 1:64 at 6v but it was all pretty approximate

I knew I was getting this, it's been tucked away for a month or two - however today I got to actually look at it!

I am not disappointed, it's feckin' awesome. Only surprise was that the whole thing is made in Thailand, rather than Malaysia.

Pictures taken in 2nd best present, pop-up photo booth that's somewhat better than the one I made out of an old box a while ago

Hnnnnggggg! Those Escorts....

Merry Christmas Mini-shiters! I did have a smattering of diecast this year.

These were known about already, and I managed to snap them before they were put away. But what the hell, I got a few more pics now I can have a proper fondle...

A great start to the Corgi Screen Stars range, apparently there are more editions to come next year. Mainly because Corgi can save a fortune by just referencing the cars and not the characters or the programme they appeared in!

I like this set, particularly because I'm a big fan of Tibetan Gold on a Capri.

IMG_20221225_124904.thumb.jpg.d14af306f9eff75d9edf46b60582c788.jpg

And I'm still mega excited over this one, the model I've been waiting for someone to make for 40+ years.

A Brucie Bonus was finding that due to a small cock up at the factory, it has a spare pair of black Ford type door mirrors on the bottom of the base.

IMG_20221225_125922.thumb.jpg.a430c77d5ce6713f4bd49814bfc87814.jpg

Which will go lovely on my Vanguards Sweeney Cortina S, which I bought unboxed, without the mirrors.

Tony from Professionalmania has emailed to say the next car he will be commissioning from Corgi will be the UOO 303T Capri, which will be a nice companion to the Escort. Not sure whether I'll go for it though, as I already have the Vanguards version of that Capri as modelled years ago, just Tony's will have better detail like the sunroof and plaid check interior, along with similar packaging to the Escort. But then again, considering the Escorts are already selling on eBay for more than double the original price, I might have a couple...

But this was one that got put straight away, so today was the first time I got to play with it ...

IMG_20221225_130159.thumb.jpg.ddcd188d87f4d8f0245b37e8d97905cb.jpg

Strange that after years of collecting Vanguards, and the majority being fast Fords (no choice really the way the range has gone the last few years...), I've missed out on most of the XR3/3i releases. Most of the time they get snapped up by dealers who then whang them on eBay at an instant mark up, which I refuse to play along with. To date I've only got the de-specced white version marketed by Corgi in the Haynes range, which came with the model and small booklet, and the realistic Essex Boy Racer version which Corgi did for Modelzone.

IMG_20221225_130359.thumb.jpg.b6b338bf42e7bebed9516e48355a4c70.jpg

With the Modelzone version being Sunburst red, I had to get this version. Plus for me, Sunburst is THE colour for an early XR3/3i. I remember the earliest press cars I saw were Sunburst and after they came out, most of the ones around here seemed to be that colour.

IMG_20221225_130326.thumb.jpg.407fa8a66dd12bafd49d0ee90738fb31.jpg

The Vanguards MK3 is a good casting, and they do a good XR3i. Slightly wonky headlight aside, it looks 'right'. Sadly this release and the latest Strato silver one seem to suffer from dodgy wiper parking too.

IMG_20221225_130440.thumb.jpg.45200a1841707c16a6abac96d4ee6488.jpg

Looks great at the rear too, shame about the slightly squiffy masking on the bumper,  but still nice.

IMG_20221225_130636.thumb.jpg.17a95eea34e2e2dcb31e1b3066134237.jpg

Being a recent release, it benefits from the upgraded interior detail introduced on Vanguards, so the seats have the proper two tone design. Being an early 3i, it has the right padded A -frame type head restraints rather than the full type seen on other releases.

IMG_20221225_131117.thumb.jpg.945ed8127a5dcb1e8d2163a743f2b7a2.jpg

A welcome addition to the Ford collection.
