Just that people with Lupos want them so they go for good money. Other than that, nothing, just a slightly odd scale toy car

Remembered I had a spare Hot Wheels Miura so I whipped it out of the pack for a quick comparison

Things have obviously come a long way in terms of tampo printing in the last 50 years, but the Matchbox is probably more faithful in terms of overall shape. I wonder what size the wheels would be scaled up?

As always, loving the cast numberplate in a realistic font. Majorette also used to do this in a similarly accurate style for France.

I spotted something pretty odd yesterday in Home Bargains.
They were described as Micro Toys, around 8 or 10 in a pack.

They were essentially micro versions of the actual toy. The Hot Wheels in the blister on the card can’t have been more than 2 cm!

They actually contain 20…

Sadly, having cost 56 bloody pounds, it's going into the 'put away for Christmas' cupboard, and the flipping thing's sealed so I couldn't even get a sneaky peek!

However apparently, the other item I've pre ordered from them is due to hit Corgi UK at the end of this month so I should hopefully have that soon.

I'm REALLY excited about that one!

Aw bollocks.  It's the wrong side of £40 now, therefore badly over budget.

And it closed the far side of £50.  No way I can go that high.  I know BOS aren't cheap, but I wouldn't have cared -and still don't - who made the model.  Price is much more important!

Meanwhile... anyone got a contact who can bring in some 1/43 Motormax Dodge Diplomats, preferably in the semi-blank black and white livery?  At a sensible price of course!  I'm not some retired civil servant with weight issues, BO and a manners deficit.  The Diplomats seem to be impossible to find in this country, but they're a dead ringer for the Plymouth Gran Fury of the 1980s, one of which, of course, I owned.

I dug this out the loft yesterday.

I got the MK3 minibus version  in around 1987 and while it was a great model the lack of quarterlight pillars in the front side windows always annoyed me. So when I saw this version in Christie's toy shop in St Andrews the following year I was smitten as it looked much more realistic.

Fast forward to August 1997 and I bought this late release, complete with 'L' registration.

It transpires that Longbridge Jr has a bit of a thing for Binis. He's constantly pointing them out to me despite only being three and a half.

Does anyone have a cheapy diecast model they're selling? Ideally red...

I'll have to check what father time has kept aside for me. Or rather what AP Snr. kept aside, rather.

The big news on this one is the battery operated light.

1440705723_IMG_20220823_1547452.thumb.jpg.1681145e11c54a71e153e54235538172.jpg

The only thing is, the original version came with a light bulb that flashed. Apparently, such a thing cannot be obtained these days, so the repro version just lights up when the switch at the base is turned.

Or at least, it's meant to.

This one doesn't, unless you squeeze it really hard. And even then, it only flickers a bit and the Trans-o-lite lamps at each corner don't do very much.

Ah well. It's still nice to look at.

I have the original version of that which matches the box artwork. The bulb won't flash as the rotating barb on the rear axle, which opened and closed the circuit, has been deleted. Its the same mechanism used on the Commer PB police and ambulance vans. The Dinky BMW 2000 TI Lux uses a similar mechanism except the contact is an eccentrically mounted cylinder on the axle.

They're all in the loft at the moment so I can't grab them for a picture.

None have ever worked for me in my ownership.

Today's laptop ornament - this 1/43 Vauxhall Chevette L.

291802695_IMG_20220824_1057272.thumb.jpg.cbb2f598c64ca0ec3dd641d28e632dbe.jpg

No maker's name anyway- possibly by DeAgostini or Altaya or one of those lads?

It was from some remaindered stock of Polish-issue partworks that Jumajo.fr were selling off last year for £notmuch.

212844104_IMG_20220824_1057372.thumb.jpg.8691b580dda08733dc81c5e578a1f432.jpg

It's actually a sort of terracotta colour, but comes across as very red indeed in the camera lens.

2009213668_IMG_20220824_1057472.thumb.jpg.bd8bbb47caba5081e2168affdf4b471f.jpg

Dunno if it's meant to be slightly lowered or not - I reckon a slight lift would do it no harm at all. Wheels are a fair approximation of Rostyles, though all one shade rather than the black 'n' silver I'm familiar with.

459634360_IMG_20220824_1057582.thumb.jpg.1e43bce0c6893cc938f3f7362226bfb3.jpg

Being a low-spec Chevette, it's quite a plain thing - but the lines are captured pretty well, including the early recessed headlights.

61919666_IMG_20220824_1058182.thumb.jpg.a798f58436b281fe8cf5b594731c589e.jpg

The bulbous rear valance with the number plate mount looks about right too.

2093518211_IMG_20220824_1523422.thumb.jpg.ced96a0f6bf163bd942a66cd981f64a0.jpg

As a European example, it's mildly disappointing that this is a left-hooker. A left hand drive Vauxhall's probably a real rarity these days, so in a way it's a shame that Vanguards or someone hasn't produced a UK-spec roadgoing Chevette. Hey, it wouldn't be too hard to produce HS/ HSR versions in road and rally spec too.

There's also some black paint drizzled on the rear arch, presumably from outlining the glazing, which I should have a go at removing.

But overall it's a nicely rendered example of some fine British street furniture; I maybe wouldn't have paid loads for it, but I'm quite happy to have it in the collection!
