I still don't have one of those Opels either.  Looks like a nice little model, but I don't have a place for it in my collection.  Also I've been "TOLD" not to buy any more.

Random: I bought some things off FB...

When I collected them the lovely people had polecats and ferrets and a nice garden. And a shed of toys they resell.

Let me have these for a tenner, which I thought was pretty generous, the cars are playworn for the most part but I remember being excited to have these cases as a kid...

Those Cavaliers go for about £25 on ebay. Nice find.

I've still got that Berilet bin lorry from my childhood. It was great to play with. I love the 'Collectomatic' badge on the body and the Scottish Borders registration GSK 77T.

Quite a few Matchbox had registration marks from that area. As they were all fictitious I wonder if they had to pick an area where there were a lot of unused registration marks so they didn't risk picking a real one?

The MK4 Cortina was RSH 88T and the Bedford TM car transporter was RSH 16S.

Funny you should mention it - just back from checking out the Saturday boot sale, this was a 50p find

20220806_111500.thumb.jpg.2e2e611838844f74772050df60ae7228.jpg

Along with the 3 series cab in a two tone I wasn't aware of

20220806_111440.thumb.jpg.f9ded93b23a4fbbfafb0db05602bf5be.jpg

Grabbed two Tonkas for half a quid too

Not sure if those or this Corgi was the best 50p spend

There wasn't a lot else, one dealer had clearly gone around hoovering up all the toy cars and was asking 1-£3 for a lot of battered crap. Didn’t bother rummaging through his stock.

It was a proper old junk boot sale though, lots of interesting stuff on display

The boot sale near me is full of sellers that are greasy chanty-wrastlers.

Filthy battered toy cars and tools that are either at the bottom of a waterlogged box or are new but made of chocolate. I've also no idea who buys some of the 'trinkets', porcelain thimbles, brass goblets, broken power tools and a stall selling dog treats.

All priced at twelve million pounds each.

This was not from a boot sale, and is a bit larger than I expected - at 1:35

It also came with a live spider clinging onto the base which made the Mrs jump a bit!

The good ones to go to are the village fete type ones in the arse end of nowhere, frequently they’ll sell decent stuff off for an absolute pittance. The ones to avoid are ones where the sellers have absolutely fuck all, they’re doing the boot sale to raise enough to put a fiver on the gas token. You wouldn’t entertain one in Rotherham let’s say, they’ve got fuck all. Ones near us used to be really good, last time I went it looked like 90% landfill. Occasionally you get diecast but often it’s fat old men that when you ask how much they are they’ll cryptically go ‘All different prices, pick some out and we’ll work out a price’ then when you do they’ll examine each and every one then come up with a figure resembling a Chicago telephone number. Then I’ll put them back in the box and repeat.

Last time I went some absolute bell end stood behind me and went to his wife ‘look he’s picking out all the old ones, I bet he’s selling them on eBay’. I’d got my five year old daughter with me but I’d have otherwise told him to keep his fucking nose out. I occasionally go when the wife wants to go but the places ultimately annoy me, it’s full of people that don’t know how to conduct themselves. The wife was intent on us doing a car boot this year but in the interests of me retaining my liberty we’ve decided to take it to the charity shop. My dad made me laugh once at a car boot, a guy was bidding him constantly on this tea set, wanting it for 50p or something. In the end he agreed, bagged it up, took the 50p and dropped the entire tea set in the bag on the floor, broke into about a zillion pieces. 🤣🤣

Back from Cheddar car boot.

Over 500 stalls of mostly shite. Not good Autoshite either.

Private sellers were mostly selling modern hotwheels.

Had a rummage through two dealers £1 boxes.

MB No.1. Late 60's. Must confess. Never had this as a kid but I liked it.

20220807_123043.thumb.jpg.8e9daf0e636dbc905dc264cd7ffd97f3.jpg

MB No.58. Late 60's. Girder truck. The Girders are long gone. Screen cracked too, which I didn't notice.

20220807_123101.thumb.jpg.40477fc2119b53aa903d7f509b3ab110.jpg

MB No.65. Airport Coach. Alitalia. Guessing early 80's. Had the BA one, never had this but liked it.

20220807_122957.thumb.jpg.2ca91861fcc54e0929491d1d27622814.jpg

MB No.41 Chevy Ambulance.

Had a few of these. Liked this model.

20220807_122942.thumb.jpg.7862bb78fdfbf992f0898ad58281af21.jpg

Then finally MB No.11. Bedford car transporter.

20220807_123027.thumb.jpg.8b3ad158271b8b9bdbd91227f877d704.jpg

I'm glad I went.

I was selling today and barely broke even after getting in and buying a few bits.

Several sellers with the usual bucket o' Hot Wheels, I did grab a few for the custom box. Only interesting bits really were a tidy Red Rider

Did you buy anything? That Sierra looked like a bargain!

Solido is BANGING at the moment. I'm glad I have such self restraint, otherwise I'd be buried under 1:18s by now.

I reckon you're right - with the base upside down!

Looks like someone's had a go at restoring it not very carefully and stuck the base back in upside-down with big blobs of glue that have gone yellow. Hopefully you can get it off and turn it back the right way.

Sadly no.  On a fast dwindling budget and have my real car with me.

Absolutely. I didn't even realise that Solido did the Renault 21 and Fuego. They are firmly on my 'to buy' list.

Holiday purchase #1:

IMG_0977.thumb.JPG.ef2af92b38ab174becefaee2439820c4.JPG

The choice was limited, at least in the supermarket I found them yesterday. Others were strangely un-French, stuff like Fiat 500 and some sort of small Jeep/Fiat SUV. They were 2 Euros each.

Is this Kangoo Express available in the UK Matchbox range?

Also saw some 1:43 Norevs at 6-7 Euros a go, will wait until I get to a shop with a bit more range before I spend my pocket money on them. I'm here for most of another two weeks so there should be opportunity to find something interesting.

I think we just get the UK ones sadly. I'd love the Kangoo and would keep it unopened.

Do you want me to get you one? Can't make any promises but I'll keep my eyes open for more....

After my purchase of a battered Sterling, which prompted a lot of discussion, I did order a good one.

Its taken ages to arrive, but this morning it finally made it.

I won't be opening the box.

I love the look of the box on this era of Matchbox.

Yes please, if its no bother! As you highlighted, anything that's based on an actual French car would be great.

Today I popped to Cora, the Belgian equivalent of Tesco/Sainsburys etc...

Cora always seem to have an excellent choice of smol diecast cars.

Uh oh:

Purchases were made blowing a lot of my reserve money:

20220809_141459.thumb.jpg.3cd997a99f3b5e846dabf868ed067332.jpg

Excuse the bad light and half-eaten Belgian waffle 😋

Couple of late purchases:

20220809_202536.thumb.jpg.2df6d80a0b3d14f2ea674647ddc13cbb.jpg

Whilst in the store, I noticed that someone had taken a but of a liberty with one of the matchboxes:

20220809_162247.thumb.jpg.c81cd80c28aac0989f98d4cb6ba5ea49.jpg

What you should be able to see are staples on the box and a non-Matchbox car, so someone has gone to some trouble to replace a car and re-staple the box.

TWINGO

Not sure if there is a UK supplier for those brilliant Twingos, but the cheapest one on UK ebay is £50. I reckon you'd be quite popular if you brought a few back and sold them at £30

I'm on a Twingo Discord where there are a plethora of young twongi enthusiasts who would no doubt bite your hand off too.

Wow, there's a Twingo Discord! Nice. There was only 1 more there, again with a slightly damaged box. I'll need to check into Cora near my Dad's to check if there are anymore.

Holy mackerel what a selection! Good prices too, I like the twin pack with the r5 and 8!

Just got a new phone so currently trying to understand why they make it so difficult to just make everything *work*. It also supposedly has a decent camera, so let's see how things look in snappy-snap mode with a couple of new purchases. The first was semi-accidental. It Put a half-assed bid in and it sold for my maximum, which was mroe than I really should have paid for it, but I figured I'd probably never see another one...

It's Mercury No.13 Alfa Romeo 1900 berlina

20220809_140013.thumb.jpg.52a172abfae55a2209a118ef432b950c.jpg

These early Mercurys were not scaled to 1:43, I think perhaps 1:48 or something? They're pretty basic - it's an Italian Corgi, really.

20220809_140022.thumb.jpg.f611f68c66589f74830e902b40ad7271.jpg

20220809_140035.thumb.jpg.ef994d51578cbcc245f3918989e27532.jpg

I have a couple of the recent partwork reissues, and it sits very nicely with the Giulietta Sprint

20220809_140054.thumb.jpg.56a465f4eb5745fc9731f9f023fab056.jpg

The second purchase was quite deliberate. Mebetoys A20 Lamborghini Miura

20220809_135811.thumb.jpg.2ad1a7d22cfe8f0dd8dd4a807f9d18f3.jpg

Not sure about those shutlines! Rest of it is very nice though

20220809_135831.thumb.jpg.d29ab1abd8d377321f2c422d5eba133d.jpg

20220809_135842.thumb.jpg.e92edac4a3241d4838f5e15f45cc819c.jpg

It's unsurprising the Miura was modelled by virtually every company at one point, given that it was probably the most exciting production car in the world on its launch and for several years after. This is definitely one of the better efforts but I think just pipped by the Politoys (which has even more opening features) and, strangley, the Solido, which has a better interior.

20220809_135904.thumb.jpg.e4c2eaeac0e6d5d4f423077c94e9ba1c.jpg

Still, no complaints with this one (aside from the boring colour, but that's probably why it was cheap-ish). The engine detail is great, there's a spare wheel under the front and despite its size it feels weighty and solid. Not much underneath sadly.

New camera verdict: fine.
Old toy cars verdict: WTF is wrong with me?
