Quick and dirty wheel swap with some Real Riders I had spare

Majorette Beetle...

20220607_174631.thumb.jpg.b1c80370b53120c3ef723819eb582df8.jpg

...now has BRM wheels, a more period colour (and a deliberately not too shiny finish) and some detail. Interior is really nicely done with an era correct steering wheel and a suitcase behind the back seat. Of course you can hardly see all that now!

Chroming the headlight rims caused mild panic

Majorette Volkswagen Beetle custom

Think it makes a great 1970s cal-looker (about three of you will have a clue what I'm on about)

Edit: sunshine!

Popped in B&M to get some BBQ supplies for tomorrow - and the J case Hot Wheels had arrived! Some are recolours but there are some excellent new castings in here too

And helpfully, the back of the box

The poster says they were sold by/as Marx but that UD logo makes me doubt this. Who knows?

Found this today, thought it was a Lone Star Impy but turns out it’s a Mini Dinky, which I’d never heard of. Supposedly is a Chevrolet Chevy, missing a tyre but at 50p I had to have it.

Quite rare, I think - they were the Hong Kong made range that suffered badly from zinc pest. As a 'premium' Lesney/ Husky/ Impy competitor they didn't sell well, and complete survivors are scare.

Well found!

Yeah I ended up down a rabbit hole reading about them, half the range weren’t even released, some might have been released but then immediately canned as tiny numbers of certain models have turned up over the years. Only sold from 67-69. It has opening bonnet and boot so it would definitely be a cut above the Lesney offerings at the time.

Chevrolet Chevy II Nova, in fact, about 1964-5.

I dug out an old photo of my die casts for a particular car with a rear seated driver position, as discussed recently in the Black and Whites thread.  The photo was taken in the late 1980s and turned out a bit fuzzy after scanning - the original was not great either.  Anyway, I've still got all of the items pictured. They are all safely wrapped and stored in boxes around the house. They rarely see the light of day.  I really should try to display them properly but my main display cabinet is occupied by aircraft.

One of my favourite recent finds is this near mint Matchbox No11 Flying bug.

Quite probably one of the most bonkers castings from matchbox, quite difficult to find in good condition.

Chuffed to find this, wasn't cheap at €5.00,but wasn't expensive either.

Flying Bug is the only Beetle I'm now mssing from my MIB-ish '70s Superfast collection. I'm curious as to what commonality there is (or isn't) between all four of them.

Although maybe a bit underwheeled, it looks better like this than wearing Superfasts with the arches reprofiled, I reckon...

1870326976_IMG_20220608_1710402.thumb.jpg.93675829a49f3ddc950439024f7634a1.jpg

Base is still remarkably shiny, after 50+ years.

One from the Permanent Collection!

I've been pondering this one over the last few days and thought I'd dig out my Superfast version for a little compare and contrast exercise:

IMG_0021.thumb.JPG.9ffb62a9c304cf27c57e2f6167ba8aab.JPG

Box art shows an even lairier green, fortunately the actual metallic colour is a little more subdued. I imagine there must be an earlier Superfast box style as it was in the range from the outset, but this is what I ended up with.

IMG_0028.thumb.JPG.e4c3d4c6637b571bf73a1bdb7db08356.JPG

I think this one suffers due to the higher stance more so than opened-up arches (the latter being very slight, perhaps only on the rear?). Also the sporty wheels don't really go with the Continental's styling, as at 1:1 they look better on steels with full covers. Despite having sprung suspension it's not as effective as on others, being a little too firm to satisfyingly 'boing' off the desktop. Whizzes across it nicely though - musn't lat it do a Thelma and Louise onto the tiled floor though.....

IMG_0023.thumb.JPG.b5faf48fae6fd7d88058f8730d709ee4.JPG

Similar casting lines evident. Front arch doesn't seem to have changed, but the rear gets closer to lining through with the top of the back bumper.

IMG_0025.thumb.JPG.c3f80467ef0421e172f7fbeac759cd4f.JPG

My base also still shiny. No slots at the axle ends.

IMG_0026.thumb.JPG.b8c14f181eb0094be9d3769221773528.JPG

Boot large enough for 1:64-ish golf clubs, dead bodies or WHY. Tragically unpainted and no bonus items as per Majorette.

Norev Talbot Solara. Another 50p job.

I have a Norev Talbot Solara but it's from the mid 2000s. I always thought it was a re-release of an old casting. Apart from having a plastic base and light lenses added, this does look to be the case.

It looks like they updated the casting to this:

First of all I have to discuss these three - how strange a coincidence is it that the very morning @Spottedlaurelmentions wanting a MIB Flying Bug, I spot this at the boot sale:

20220612_114932.thumb.jpg.b9d05289b1e3cb971bf12c5988afcfe5.jpg20220612_114944.thumb.jpg.1999b26f44ea75c63602b8ab59aabc6f.jpg20220612_114954.thumb.jpg.6f09b88b62300e8ed5f2c4b836b232a3.jpg

It's lovely, was nice to have it in my paws for a short time.

Next up on the list of odd coincidences, just yesterday I got some info on that possibly Marx truck that I bought years ago, today the same seller as the Flying Bug has this;

20220612_115140.thumb.jpg.a80ccb211e3ce8977ceeea535aa1f81c.jpg20220612_115148.thumb.jpg.a677fba73cc080c2a2a62a40897568c2.jpg20220612_115155.thumb.jpg.84248be0423e8e38beaeb7e07cd11a92.jpg20220612_115212.thumb.jpg.f2870cb941a8a998dc32d3802f82aa64.jpg

So that proves beyond any doubt they were sold as Marx. Happy days.

Lastly, I also found something in its original packaging I wanted

20220612_115058.thumb.jpg.700aad27e94e50a07e6943ed6f2bc383.jpg20220612_115106.thumb.jpg.754eae10a75885204b5fb9ea0c4a01e0.jpg20220612_115113.thumb.jpg.9f8e08440a041dfb98a7f0d65fce0c29.jpg

Love the Neet Streeter, and I didn't have this one loose or carded

Right here's some of the other bits I found. Several sellers had huge boxes of cars but at £1 each so I had to be quite selective, found plenty more at 50p or less though.

Starting with the bigger ones, grabbed this quite late Corgi 5 series as I thought one of you lot might want it?

Some more figures. These, I think, were made by Scalextric . The ones holding poles used to have flags. i never did have any Scalextric sets.

These fireman  were made by Dinky.

The hose is missing. I played with these and the fire engine I no longer have.

I also later found the 6th fireman and here he is with 2 policemen.

The motorbike rider was from a Britains Triumph. The one walking I have no clue who made him. He is made of softish plastic.FigsPolice.thumb.jpg.c3ffdf13c5053b6013583f49ab138b03.jpg

Finally, after a few weeks of not finding anything these came up. Majorette Renault Twingo, Playart Honda NS360 and Majorette Renault Safrane. I really like the Honda!
